Rare still makes games and in 2015 they made Rare replay, a collection with 30 Rare games that still gets updates. It's an XBOX exclusive though.

I'm sad that last year 1 of Rare's projects was canceled. It was some cute adventure game with a lot of cute animals. Very very sad about it.

I didn't even know about this. Usually developers cancel a game so they can work on another game.

It was part of microsofts restructuring (aka laying people off I think?). I guess they canceled the project because it was taking too long (5+ years of dev, game just got planning done and had early levels playable for feel). They are probably working on something else now I guess...

The game was called "Everwild". Loved the concept, so sad to see it scrapped.

There is a fan project to make a third game, it looks incredible, but is understandably taking a very long time to make

After animal crossing success during the pandemic, I was hoping Microsoft would try to capitalize on it and revive Viva piñata, 6 years later and it seems we'll never see a new one.

It was only ever on Xbox right? I've never tried an Xbox emulator before but I've done PS1. They can be a pain to set up correctly.

I played the crap out of it when it was new. Tried playing it again on game pass and the controls were so clunky and irritating, I have no idea how I managed back then. Would still love a remaster or even new entry with updated and smoother controls. I'll even take a spiritual successor (like Yooka-Laylee was for Banjo-Kazooie)

Fair- but tbh the graphics are fine. Could use some cleaning up for bugs and streamlined controls though.

Same it still breaks my brain they didn't do one for 2020 when it had its biggest chance to come back.
