Does the Simpsons Hit and Run count?

I would buy a remastered version in a heartbeat!

u/TheLovinPostman Jul 29 '26

I think its charm is in the blocky graphics. Though i would kill for more missions and side quests.

66

u/Ok-Credit5726 Jul 29 '26

More cars too

1

u/mrfirstar1997 28d ago

i'd love more areas maybe a futurama crossover easter egg

1

u/crobat--8 28d ago

Honestly if they just made a futurama game that played like hit and run that would be awesome.

62

u/Feeling-Influence691 Jul 29 '26

And fix that one Apu mission where you have to drive from one side of the town to the other with a timer. No-one can beat that except with cheats probably.

23

u/Significant_Truth746 Jul 29 '26

I had beat it ONCE and that was because I spent hours trying to best finding every short cut I could

16

u/RememberCakeFarts Jul 29 '26

I've beat it. I have never beaten the last mission even with all of the hints and tricks people talk about. Once just once I got the last barrel of toxic waste to the ship and into the tractor beam. Do you know that the time doesn't stop while it's ascending? And it takes about 10 seconds to go up?  I quit after that.

u/Feeling-Influence691 Jul 29 '26

Man alive.

5

u/Positive-Crew-5326 Jul 29 '26

There are… men alive in here

3

u/Ok-Method-8045 Jul 30 '26

I happened to watch a speed run of hit and run the other week. When driving, if you press the button to look backwards it well despawn all the cats in front of you for a few seconds giving you a better path.

3

u/Volistar Aug 02 '26

Repressed gaming memory unlocked. Just like this and the goddamn nes lion King game. We all know the one.

5

u/Huneebunz Jul 29 '26

That car was more dangerous than the night shift at the Kwik E Mart

4

u/Exotic_Butt3rz Jul 29 '26

I’ve always beaten after a couple of tries I didn’t realize people thought it was impossible.

5

u/CthulhusSoreTentacle Jul 29 '26

What mission is that? I recently replayed Hit and Run and completed it without any real difficulty.

3

u/HarlesD Jul 29 '26

I wonder if because Apu is a playable character in the game it'll never get a remaster

3

u/Iri5hgpd Jul 29 '26

I beat it, mind you it took me hours to do. And alot of blood, sweat and controllers (seriously I smashed one to shit out of sheer frustration)

3

u/LoverOfRandom Jul 29 '26

It’s hard but also doable.

3

u/Mista_DontPlay420 Jul 29 '26

That one and the one against Comic Book Guy was a bitch too

3

u/Puttanas Jul 30 '26

I beat it several times. Only broke one controller in the process.

3

u/Feeling-Influence691 Jul 31 '26

Truly the mark of a professional to have only broken one. I admire your restraint

3

u/Saemika Jul 31 '26

I beat it as a kid. I recently went back to replay it and…. I’m too old for that shit.

8

u/Anxious_Specific_165 Jul 29 '26

Apu was «cancelled» years ago, so a remake would definitely not involve his character. Let the game be, I say. Remakes with modernisation of certain cultural aspects is a hit and miss approach that might or might not ruin both memories and parts of older games.

5

u/oyvese Jul 29 '26

this post and the comment chain you’re a part of are specifically talking about a remaster

3

u/Anxious_Specific_165 Jul 29 '26

I see, thanks for pointing that out. Even then, would they allow Apu to exist unchanged in a remaster?

5

u/oyvese Jul 29 '26

hard to say.

on one hand they’re clearly distancing themselves entirely from apu as a character but a remaster is just an old game and they likely still are involved with selling old simpsons dvds which have apu.

they’d probably have a warning about how they represent characters, or something.

3

u/ShadowStrider_7 Jul 29 '26

As someone who has not kept up with current happenings, might I inquire as to why Apu is being distanced/cancelled?

4

u/RoddyUsher Jul 29 '26

One guy got upset by it and wrote an op-ed. This was around 2020.

So now the well-mannered, intelligent, patient, family man character has been removed from the show

3

u/This_Cancel1373 Jul 29 '26

You can probably guess

3

u/Icy-Horror-495 Jul 29 '26

Because the Indian guy looked and sounded Indian?

2

u/LoverOfRandom Jul 29 '26

Cancel culture

3

u/shifty18 Jul 29 '26

No one will ever truly cancel apu

2

u/SquidVices Jul 29 '26

Modernization

3

u/Kayerif Jul 29 '26

With remasters they tend to just update the texture quality so everything still looks all blocky, it’s generally remakes where they modernise the graphics properly

25

u/jacob_lee_smith Jul 29 '26

HELL YEAH!!! Such a great and incredibly fun game.

1

u/Deranged-Pickle Jul 29 '26

Crazy Taxi, Robocop Vs Terminator, the Bouncer, and that Castlevania game for PS2

12

u/TechnicianGreedy7998 Jul 29 '26

Someone did a good job doing a fan remake: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PBIFunhha4

5

u/Lord_Humungusss Jul 29 '26

Theres also supposedly a regular remake happening i heard

3

u/IGotDeaded Jul 29 '26

Love Reubs. He did such a great job on it

4

u/Arc-a-thon213 Jul 29 '26

Had this game on GameCube lol 😂

3

u/Sufficient-Mouse6178 Jul 29 '26

Damn! U beat me to it :p

6

u/professorScrump Jul 29 '26

The game still holds up really well if you have the means to play it. Definitely could use a rerelease for new gen

2

u/LargeCod2319 Jul 29 '26

yeah it's not even on xbox which is surprising considering how strong their back compat library is. Deffo a licensing issue as its hard to find anywhere

2

u/Numerous1 Jul 29 '26

Streets of Sim City!

2

u/Weeb-Prime Jul 29 '26

Came here to comment this! Such a fun game.

My second choice would be GTA4.

2

u/Dragonfang65 Jul 29 '26

Agreed.

Especially if it makes playing mods easier with controller support.

2

u/mrayner9 Jul 29 '26

I recently emulated it and I dont remember it being so fucking hard! Idk if its cause when I was a kid I treated it more like GTA than doing the missions.

2

u/False_Snow7754 Jul 29 '26

This is it. This is all I need.

2

u/Extra_Zucchini_1273 Jul 29 '26

Exactly the game i came to talk about.

2

u/ChocUK22 Jul 29 '26

Came here to comment same game lol

2

u/dbe14 Jul 29 '26

Some fan did a faithful remaster and Sega blocked its release.

2

u/WatchWatcher25 Jul 29 '26

LFG what a great answer that game was amazing.

I played some mods on PC that game is still huge

2

u/Helpful_Revolution34 Jul 29 '26

This is always one of the most requested games

2

u/untakenu Jul 29 '26

Part of my soul is stuck in that game. When my mind wanders, I feel it roaming through those maps.

2

u/Acceptable_Laugh9284 Jul 29 '26

To me this sounds like a slam dunk… I don’t know why some company hasn’t gotten the rights to the game and done a remastered

2

u/jolsiphur Jul 29 '26

Isn't there a Crazy Taxi remake/remaster? Simpsons hit and run was just Crazier Taxi with a Simpsons skin on it.

2

u/Notlinked2me Jul 29 '26

No need that game is fine as is. Just plug the old trusty GC and run it.

One of the best controllers, an amazing little system, graphics are perfect for the game type.

2

u/Drahkir9 Jul 29 '26

For someone out of the loop, why wouldn’t that game count?

2

u/Clin-ton Jul 29 '26

I’ve still never played, which is crazy because I loved Simpsons: Road Rage.

2

u/shootyoureyeout Jul 29 '26

Wow, this was my kid's first console game and we played it to death on the Wii. I kind of love the charm of how janky it is, but would still probably play a remaster in a heartbeat!

2

u/banglawang Jul 29 '26

Of all games, you said Simpsons💔

2

u/Ok-Hearing6146 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Bro it’s a good game wdym? 😭

-1

u/banglawang Jul 29 '26

Never played it but bro I'm smart enough to not choose the Simpson of all games🥀

2

u/RstakOfficial Jul 29 '26

Blast from the past

2

u/ParticularRelease662 Jul 29 '26

Recently found it on an abandonware list and hooooly shit I forgot how genuinely great that game is. Only thing I would change are the camera controls as they did not hold up well lol but what a nostalgia blast.

2

u/Otherwise_Food9698 Jul 29 '26

this for sureeee

2

u/CryGlad9980 Jul 29 '26

There was a guy in YouTube trying to remaster it

2

u/BecauseSeven8Nein Jul 29 '26

If they just ported the original to current gen or even PS4 I would potentially pay full retail price for it. It wouldn’t even need a remaster.

2

u/Upset_rust Jul 29 '26

Hasn’t this been rumored forever?

1

u/Ok-Hearing6146 Jul 29 '26

Yes but sadly never happened 😢

2

u/huge_jeans710 Jul 29 '26

I'm so happy people keep talking about this gem. I thought I was the only person so play it as a kid.

2

u/TH3_CYN1C Jul 29 '26

Straight to the comments to check and see if this one was on here. Thank goodness it is!

2

u/ExpiredGuitar Jul 29 '26

Same bruh shi is peak

2

u/RydmaUwU Jul 29 '26

This needs to be at the top

2

u/Summit_Gnome Jul 31 '26

Scrolled down looking for this. Instant purchase for me.

2

u/SprinklesDangerous57 Aug 01 '26

Oooooh that would be a good one. Maybe hit and run 2 since that felt more open world

2

u/FencingCatBoots 28d ago

I’d be happy with just making it backwards compatible

2

u/mrfirstar1997 28d ago

bro that game is legendary still great to this day would love to see a whole new level added

3

u/Jeegsah Jul 29 '26

Eat asphalt, asphalt eater!

3

u/DrumStock92 Jul 29 '26

I honestly remastered myself with mods on the PC version it's actually kind of insane how well it runs now . Runs like a dream on the Stwamdeck

2

u/Lizzy_Of_Galtar Jul 29 '26

You unlocked a memory i didn't knew i had. Thank you 😄

2

u/xrayspex73 Jul 29 '26

Such a fun game. Have the PC version installed right now...

1

u/Mysterious_Ad216 Jul 29 '26

If it was made by the people who made Crazy Taxi and/or with their permission then this is the correct answer. If not either then it deserves where it is, sued into hell for being a carbon copy of Crazy Taxi

-1

u/Enough_Worry4104 Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

God I hate that game.

But you do you.

I feel like the kids that like this game didn't get to play GTA Vice City.

-3

u/Revolution64 Jul 29 '26

I don't understand the praise this game is getting. Decent licensed game but the missions are so repetitive towards the end of the game.

6

u/Ok-Hearing6146 Jul 29 '26

It’s a kid friendly Simpsons version of GTA lol… what’s not to love?

3

u/ShorohUA Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Satisfying handling, beautiful and timeless visuals, tons of references to the golden age gags, many good original jokes, a decent story, and an exclusive itchy and scratchy episode. On top of it all, you can feel that the game was made by enthusiastic people who genuinely love this project and the Simpsons in general
