So e of my colleagues have worked with him and they say he is a dick. He thinks he's better than everyone, he expects engineers to work unhealthy hours etc. Ironically he has a god complex.
I miss my adorable holy cow that served the most evil god around. Although, my zebra was a hell of a fighter. I got him trained well enough I could let him be and he would wreck the enemy creature.
I think there was something like 20 creatures. Cow, lion, tiger, wolf, chimpanzee, gorilla, ogre, zebra, and brown bear, polar bear, tortoise, sheep, crocodile, and rhinoceros are what I remember.
Share us your wisdom! I was putting stuff away in storage and B&W II was sitting on the top of a box of movies I've been meaning to bring back upstairs.
I will copy everything I followed. I know it looks like a lot but it was relatively simple "myabandonware" is a safe site. But I understand if you want to check it's security on your own just as I did.
Running this in 2023:
1. Download ISO Version Deviance Release
2. Download Patch v1.1 - v1.2 - v1.42
NOTE: v1.42 is a fan made patch that makes the game compatible with modern systems.
5. Mount ISO and run arun.exe, then click install.
IMPORTANT: When mounting the ISO, do NOT use windows built-in mounting. I know it sounds stupid as hell, but use a program like WinCDEmu. (It's super easy to use, just google it, or use some other program) If you don't, the installer WON'T install the fourth level properly and you will crash after finishing the third level every time!
6. Use any of the provided serial keys when installing:
NOTE: When it asks to register with EA arts account just click "register later".
Install all of the patches in order v1.1 - v1.2 - v1.42
PLAY THE GAME! Run white.exe or use the desktop shortcut.
IMPORTANT: Do NOT use any cracked version white.exe and do not overwrite anything. There are anti piracy measures for this game which purposefully add bugs and glitches to the game (Most notorious being the villagers not aging and growing up). Using the fan patch v1.42 is all you need.
NOTE: Even with all the patches there may be still issues with running the game on a modern PC.
A.) You may get issues with overlapping audio due to too high frame rate.
To fix I had to limit my games FPS to 60.
1. Right-click on your desktop
2. NVIDIA Control Panel
3. Manage 3D settings
4. Program Settings
5. From the drop down find and select "Black And White 2 (white.exe)"
6. From the settings list, scroll down a bit and find "Max Frame Rate" and set it to 60
B.) You may get issues with being unable to move the mouse properly due to too high polling rate on your mouse (razer, logitech etc mouse for example)
To fix I had to reduce my mouses polling rate:
1. Check your polling rate here: https://cps-check.com/polling-rate-check
Click begin and move your mouse around. If the max it shows is anything above 125Hz (e.g. 500Hz or 1000Hz), you'll have to lower yours to 125Hz.
You really only have 2 options:
Option 1: Google your mouse model and check if there is software made by your mouse manufacturer you can download. Usually there will be an option for setting the "Report/Polling rate" manually.
Option 2: You could buy/find a cheap, old crappy mouse that has a low polling rate of 125Hz or less
Option 1 worked for me since I'm using a Logitech G102 which comes with software you can just download online.
C.) You may get issues with the game crashing after finishing the final task of any level.
Luckily the fan made patch v1.42 includes an option to skip the level to level transition sequence. Just press esc, and it will give you the option to skip.
Anyway, that's all I got, good luck! What a MASSIVE hassle to run, but it's a great game and I wish it had a proper GOG or Steam version release that you could just BUY and PLAY without all of these dumb issues!
The AI doesn't need to change, but actually making the creatures able to learn more things could be cool. In reality, there is a pretty constrained set of things the creatures could learn, but because that learning is obscured from the player (unlike in B&W2, the player base attributed all sorts of learned behaviors to the creatures due to confirmation bias. I'm not suggesting trying to eliminate that confirmation bias, but instead give it more ammunition based on what previous players though, and see what else players will imagine.
The B&W games are up there with Shadow of the Colossus: amazing concept and execution that absolutely no one has made a credible attempt at replicating.
Controversial take. Black and white was so cool and innovative due to its cool learning AI. I think with today's technology that this could be an insanely cool game. But it would be an "AI" game.
I'll never forget watching my parents friends teen son play B&W on the 2k new years eve. I was 9 turning 10 in January and I was blown away watching him kill peasants lol.
I had the opposite problem. Damn monkey watched me set up a breeder, then while I was busy with a long quest, caused a population explosion and following famine
It's in Early Access and hasn't been out for very long, so it could very well turn things around, especially considering it's by Peter Molyneux.
The latest reviews seem to be getting better again, too.
Early Access games are always a bit of a gamble.
Yeah, I get that it is Early Access. My biggest takeaway from the reading several reviews is that the game is struggling to decide what exactly it wants to be.
I'm glad someone said it! I loved that game. And even the crappy graphics had a certain charm to it. It felt like it's own mythos. And I remember the cover of the cd case looking sick.
Holy shit what are the chances that this was the first thought I had too. I always thought the Black and White series could've translated to VR beautifully
I want this game with ZERO changes - just make it run properly on wide monitors and Windows 11.
It was 'low grade' FX when it was launched because that was the aesthetic they wanted. The villagers looked unrendered because the designers wanted the player to not see them clearly as people - a foundational design element for the game. They wanted you to see your animal emissary clear and vivid, but to see everyone else minimal and blurry, so when your animal would stupidly pick up one and eat them, you would admonish your animal for being naughty, but you wouldnt be angry or sad that a person just got ate by them.
Surprise of my life when i found out that one of my favourite games of all time was developed where my parents would go clothes shopping lol. No man's sky too.
OMG Yes! I would kill for an updated version of that game. I wonder if I can get my old copy to run on an emulator. I wanna slap my tiger for eating the worshippers. hehehe
Goddamn Emerald, Platonium deserved to be remastered no Fckn Diamond & Pearl. Speaking of those two it allows you to go to the distortion World which only POKEMON PLATINUM can go into... HERESY!!!

Black and White: Definitive Edition or something like that would be great
