Anyone else think this running animation looks janky? He looks heavy, slow.

I think the biggest issue is that the shifts between the different animations looks really clunky for a next gen game.

When he comes off the zipline he loses all forward momentum for a moment. Looks weird.

This just seems to be an Insomniac problem in general. The Spider-Man games have lots of momentum-retention issues and I hope they fix it for SM3

Yeah first thing I noticed. Yuck

Came to say this

u/Dreamo84 17d ago

When do we finally call them current gen games?

Adamantium IS heavy.

u/Far-Try5352 19d ago

But wolverine is supposed to be very fast

Always seemingly a tough choice for anyone adapting wolverine. He weighs something like 300 lbs. Balancing realism with comic book logic seems to be something they all struggle with regarding wolverine.

just make him run fast and fall heavy, that will do.

With the first gameplay trailer highlighting the "stealth" elements, of Wolverine crouching in a bright yellow suit walking silently on a corrugated metal roof up to an enemy in broad daylight, it's probably too late to turn back. That's probably a 3rd of the gameplay lol

u/htfudas 19d ago

When I saw that shit I knew this game was gunna be ass.

3

u/ouijahead 19d ago

Your game is gonna rock

1

u/ComfortableChemist67 18d ago

Wolverine is canonically a stealth expert. He sneaked up on daredevil!

1

u/Advice2Anyone 15d ago

Sneaking up on a blind guy is not the achievement youd think it is

1

u/ComfortableChemist67 15d ago

I know this probably is a joke. But daredevil can literally hear muscle twitching when people move or walk. Not even spider-man could sneak on him.

4

u/RenderedCreed 19d ago

That sounds like a great way to deal with it to me.

1

u/Fuzzy-Tooth3269 18d ago

They make run heavy and fall heavy but fight fast

1

u/SuperOnionBro 18d ago

I like how they handled that balance in Prototype

2

u/TroyFerris13 19d ago

why he jumping all weird though

1

u/SevroAuShitTalker 19d ago

I feel like it looked fine in the old wolverine/xmen games on ps2

1

u/Preeng 18d ago

Bro's "healing factor" includes producing enough testosterone to make up for his metal bones. But somehow it doesn't make him go bald.

1

u/RenderedCreed 18d ago

I think it has something to do with his mutation causes him to be more animalistic as the mutation progresses or something like that. Basically explains why he's so hairy I think.

Wolverine is a comic book character. why would someone adapting him into a video game have to balance between comic books and real life physics? video games don't have to abide by the laws of gravity

1

u/nigirizushi 18d ago

I don't think that's what they mean. He's supposed to be the peak of human strength, so he should be able to jump pretty high. But then why is he running slower than a normal person?

9

u/dalehitchy 19d ago

Shouldn't he fall through some of those roofs then

7

u/Least-Suggestion7319 18d ago

But he can lunge himself 25 meters?

5

u/SerowiWantsToInvest 18d ago

Then why can he leap 6 foot in the air but jogs like an unenhanced human

9

u/alex11chr 19d ago

Yes! Moved almost like the Hulk in Marvels Avengers

20

u/rondo_martin 19d ago

He looks almost exactly like reboot Kratos

5

u/Luna259 19d ago

It does. I was thinking why does he run like that?

4

u/RecklessHusky 19d ago

Yeah. I get that he’s supposed to have weight, but It’s like his body movements are too slow to match the running speed, looks a little floaty.

6

u/ValkyrianRabecca 19d ago

Yeah if Wolverine was chasing someone that he needed dead or captured, I would expect his all fours running

7

u/Co-opingTowardHatred 19d ago

Wolverine doesn't do that.... Sabretooth sometimes does.

2

u/ValkyrianRabecca 19d ago

He has done it, it isn't as common as sabertooth, but he's gone feral pre-leap

1

u/InterviewOk8013 18d ago

He did in Deadpool and Wolverine

2

u/DaystromAndroidM510 18d ago

He's turtle-heading

4

u/GoldPack3616 19d ago

The better the graphics are getting in modern gaming - the more you notice how not realistic the animations are when not done right.

Like if we got these sh animations in a PS3 game it wouldn't look out of place, but idk why the devs think they can cheapen out on animations and physics in modern gaming space.

1

u/Straight_Second6082 19d ago

My thoughts exactly, be does feel janky

1

u/FitMongoose9 19d ago

Look at how the Spider-Men run in any of the 3 Spider-Man games that Insomniac has made so far. I like those games, but they have similar running animations to this. Heavy and slow is a good way to put it

1

u/platypus_boi 19d ago

It looks like he is accelerating the whole time the way his legs are pumping.

Like a runner 2 steps out of the box.

1

u/Spartan_Souls 19d ago

He's like, 400 pounds, I know hes got super strength and agility but he IS heavy

1

u/Big_Inspection_3151 19d ago

I literally just played Spider Man 2 today and thats why it looks weird, Wolverine's running animations is near identical to Spideys in that game.

1

u/PM_Me_FunnyNudes 18d ago

My first thought as well, he’s covering too little ground for the amount of steps he’s taking so it looks like he’s moving through quicksand

1

u/Robdd123 18d ago

I was thinking that at some points he should be running on all fours.

1

u/mmatt0904 18d ago

inbnetween him dropped out of the hanging animation and went back to running, that animation looked rough. basically like a still pose and scooted forward so you can thing there was momentum

1

u/neganight 18d ago

He's also not 5'3" like he's "supposed" to be. If he was, those little legs would have to be working extra hard to keep up with the ninjas. Source: me, a 5'2" dude.

1

u/LostPerson703 18d ago

def not polished like spiderman's swings

1

u/LiamNeesonsIsMyShiit 18d ago

I though this was a ps2 game NGL.

1

u/IntelligentImbicle 18d ago

That's a good thing for Wolverine, IMO. He should feel like a brute, which makes his bursts of feral speed all that more exciting.

1

u/meepee42 18d ago

It mostly stands out to me when he jumps.

1

u/13THEFUCKINGCOPS12 18d ago

And his jump seems weirdly floaty

1

u/OlDustyHeadaaa 18d ago

He is heavy.

1

u/Dionis_gg 18d ago

It looks like when you hold down jump as Spider-Man on the ps4 Spider-Man game while you run to do a long jump but you don't let go of the button.

1

u/CakyMint 18d ago

I know what you mean. It is janky. they fucked up the animation...

BUT.

Cannonically.. dude has around 50kg metal inside his body.

1

u/rico_muerte 17d ago

Didn't change much from the leaked footage

1

u/Rasples1998 17d ago

People realising how lazy insomniac is will always be funny. Great visuals, but awful dialogue, writing, animations, gameplay systems etc. it's why Spiderman 2 felt weaker than the first game, and I suspect wolverine will have it's fair share of jank too.

1

u/amaya-aurora 17d ago

Wolverine, the guy with a metal skeleton who is literally too heavy to swim, looks HEAVY and SLOW? That’s SO crazy!

1

u/NotTmc 17d ago

I mean he is 500lbs but still he has super strength

1

u/Kooky_Assistance2755 16d ago

I was gonna say the same about the ninja. Dude floats around like he's using console commands in an elder scrolls game

1

u/Capital-Gift73 15d ago

Everything looks awful. Might play it when its on psplus but man it looks like ass.

1

u/C-A-L-E-V-I-S 19d ago

What’s crazy is running in Spider-Man is actually pretty terrible feeling; it’s everything else with the webbing that feels amazing like swinging and zipping to things. That’s just NOT going to exist in this game, and it’s like half the fun of the Spidey games. So I hope they figure that out

0

u/frost-ace3600 19d ago

Looks like a standard, government-issued Sony third person adventure game protag animation. Not much to say there. They could've recycled Kratos' running animation and nobody would bat an eye at this point.

0

u/Head_Humor 18d ago

Oh shit You're actually complaining about a guy whose body is filled of INDESTRUCTIBLE METAL looking heavy when he runs and not complaining about the weird ass running animation the red robed ninja has

0

u/Iswaterreallywet 18d ago

Is someone who is 300 lbs and has a dense metal skeleton supposed to look fast?
