Especially with how badly the person you're chasing is animated to where you can see the literal line the devs drew out for it to follow.

Its very PS2

Naw it's Dreamcast, and Shenmue had better chase sequences, at least those had QTE's. This kind of awful recycled gameplay isn't new for Insomniac, they put fucking Superman 64 fly through rings segments in Spider-Man 2.

Honestly, a cinematic camera with QTEs would turn this subpar chase sequence from sub mid to cool as hell.

So are the boss fights, literally just god of war 1 fights

And the part where somehow Logan going down the wire doesn't get him ahead of the enemy

Eh, the enemy also used a wire that was down below, so not too surprising, but it all still looks like ass.

POV when you forgot to turn off the motion matching debug line.

Insane reach from a 30 second clip

Wasn't this literally every other mission in GTA? I hated that shit.

The animation is truly atrocious, it doesn’t even look like the guy is running, he’s just hovering high speed.

Or when it speed up after roll since it needs to keep distance from u

They’re not making major changes to gameplay sequences a month before release. Likely just debugging and testing performance and doing some marketing right before release. Most of the team is likely already moved onto the next project.

Amazing is an understatement, the scent line is ahead of the guy supposedly leaving it

First thing I thought of was "Oh... We're going back to the first Assassin's Creed game, huh?". So fucking dated, and idk how anyone playtesting would give that a nod of approval in 2026.

Playtested? Whats that? /s

1

Play testing only happens if the PC version comes out first

That and climbing tf is the point of making me crawl across and up a conveniently glowing grapple area. I remember rage quitting the uncharted game remakes for this since that was 50% of the game

Theres already way to much in spiderman 2

u/dunderdan23 18d ago

Even if it wasnt there, its still a linear chase, it really wouldn't change anything, if you didnt catch the target youd still fail. The idea behind something like this is to keep the story flowing

1

u/narkaputra 18d ago

the whole game feels dated gameplay wise; the Sentinel boss fight is meh

1

u/Available_Length1815 18d ago

Woah they might make you hold x/a to engage "parkour" too

/j I will not take this slander about Death Stranding

/uj Out of curiosity, do you feel the same about the Death Stranding series?

u/Browna 18d ago

Insomniac for all the credit they get really do not innovate much at all. Narrative wise they hit a spot, but getting there can sometimes be a chore.

Like I could understand if the chase sequence wasn't a glorified cutscene; make a large area and the NPC runs around it randomly

2

u/SaleAggressive9202 19d ago

but, but... don't you get how CINEMATIC it is????!! go back to playing call of duty kiddo, this is how real men play.

1

u/garcia3005 18d ago

At this point? They felt dated on the PS2.

Can't stress this enough. Either do it in the range of Uncharted or don't do it at all

u/BabySpecific2843 19d ago

Which Uncharted? Uncharted had its fair share of "hold forward" action sequences. Even that big cinematic train scene from U2 is just a forward walking simulator with some razzle dazzle on it. Same with U3's plane scene.

Or as Yahtzee eventually calls this genre of work "Ghost Train rides".

2

u/PeacefulKnightmare 19d ago

The razzle dazzle is what they were referring to. If you're going to make an on rails sequence, they should be doing what they can to make it dynamic to the point where it "feels" like it isn't on rails or there's a least some variety to keep you on your toes. The kinda chase we see in OPs post is something that we saw all the time in PS1 titles.

I was remembering the scenes where we jump between cars, trucks, grapple and swing or trains to get behind the enemy or to cover etc. They were fun for me.
These include the truck chase in U2, boat chase in U3 and the infamous madagascar chase in U4

Edit: Ending chase in the lost legacy too. If you people don't find these fun then I am in the wrong neighbourhood

Unskippable cutscene but with graphics and knee slapping Marvel talk.

You could say that about literally any game where you move
