Yeah. Especially since there's usually no win condition. The target will always rubberband to be way ahead of you until you arrive at the destination you're supposed to be at.

That’s why I appreciated the chase in AC2 (might be brotherhood) in one of the secret tombs where you can actually catch him and prevent him from warning the other guards if you do the chase quick enough.

Gives it actual stakes and a win condition and it’s way more exciting for it

Back when Ubisoft actually gave a damn about making good games🙄

You didn’t play POP:TLC?

Oh that was really good actually 😃👍🏾 But its still few and far between especially considering Ubisofts past records. They used to put out games on that quality level on a regular basis. That's why I'm sad

Typical daily dig at Ubisoft from angry redditor (because apparently you can’t help yourself).

As a gamer who basically grew up playing Ubisoft games I think I've earned the right to criticize their recent practices especially when it comes to the quality of their games. Ironically I'm usually on Ubisoft's side in most arguments but I have to call out their BS as well. I want them to do better by us, the people who have supported them through the years.

It's just funny that you hold Assassin's Creed 2 as the shining example, not Far Cry 2 or The Sands of Time.

I think you missed the point I was trying to make, friend 🙄 I never said AC2 was better or worse than any of their other titles. Was just saying they have lost their way in recent years

I view AC2 as where Ubisoft started with that shitty openworld template, thus lost their way.

I‘m far from a Ubisoft completist but I honestly don’t think most of their games are even that bad. They often just lack creativity or feel like they’ve cut corners or they take away some of what made Ubisoft’s best games just that (like making AC games feel less AC).

They still make a lot of good games. You're just a follower.

ALL of the AC games are good games, for example.

I wonder why

Please don't ever mention AC2 or any decent AC game - we don't do that here. (crying while typing)

I actually feel sad for people who missed the Black flag remake and shadows which has by far the best stealth and combat in any assassin's creed games in my opinion anyway and I've played every game numerous times

The AC games slap, always will. It's just after playing 5 of them most people realize it's time to move on. It doesn't make them bad, it's normal burnout from any genre, even ones that work well. Im sure new audiences are still loving the series, and I still respect it. Ubisoft hate is a weird one to me.

Heh, I’m playing through the AC Black Flag remake and the people you’re chasing politely wait for you to catch up in that one if you fall too far behind.

Also remembered Assassin's Creed but 3, not 2. The chases felt pretty good there.

Ya I remember that. Modern ubisoft would never do that now.

Yeah that’s the worst part imo. There’s no stakes.

But but but, if you hit something a few times you have to start over?

u/PragmaticProkopton 18d ago

Yeah which means it might as well be a cut scene.

1

u/Snts6678 18d ago

Exactly. That’s one of the things I hate the most. The chase doesn’t matter…it just getting you to point b.

I just see this as a narrative tool… as long as the chase scene isn’t annoyingly long, having a smooth way to get the character from a story location to a fight location or to buy time for dialogue is perfectly fine to me.

And its worse given how it worked in sunset overdrive, if you can get the dude carrying the quest item in 3 seconds then you get him, similar with the dragon fight but repeated a few times. Theres also the rollercoaster one that took me forever but now knowing how to do it i know it can be done quickly i just didnt when i played.

Honestly, they need to at least make it optional where you can actually catch the person and end the chase sooner, maybe offer up different dialogue. Sure, if you chase them all the way maybe you'll get additional dialogue--but if you're tired of that bs, just let us catch him right away.
