Nvidia's AI "enhancement" tool.

Some garbage AI thing that makes everyone look 20 years older.
You’d have to be blind to think this looks good.

Nvidia's leaked, unfinished enhancement tool.

Hardly matters that it’s not finished, Nvidia straight up lied about the technology. They claimed it to be only lighting information but it’s not, it’s a lot more ending up AI generated.

This is when the nVidia glazers show up and say "This looks great! If you don't like it why don't you just turn DLSS 5 off? Nobody's making you run it. AI is the future, and you just have to accept being jobless and fucked over. Why don't you just go fuck yourself you anti-AI boomer neckbeard shithead yelling at the clouds?".
Rational discourse has no place with them, that's what you're going to get.

u/Lizpy6688 1d ago
I've seen some images where it looks good. Then some like this where it looks extremely shit. I think it's best uses it's for lighting from what I've seen so far where as for faces, it's very hit or miss. I have a Nvidia gpu also
My biggest concern is it's going to be used to cut corners meaning we get shitty optimization, less artistic input etc. That's my main concern. AI has its uses but it shouldn't be used to take away from human input in art. I've already heard ai bands and that's already worrying me... We're in for a bizarre potentially dystopian future

u/Fearless-Dust-2073 14h ago
That's the point. Sometimes it looks good, sometimes it looks like dogshit. This changes frame by frame. Your concern is also correct, this is the primary reason that generative AI is being pushed so hard; more profits, less employees.

have you seen any footage rather than just stills? it's inconsistent in what it alters. it's genuinely dogshit.

NVIDIA Glazer here, and I'd just like to say . . . I agree with you. Looks weird A/F.

I am not an Nvidia glazer. But I also recognize the reality here.
DLSS5 is incomplete. What you are seeing is not the release. It is an incomplete, leaked version. It has not even been released yet.
It looks bad. Obviously. Everyone recognizes this. But it also... this is not the actual release.
So speaking of rational discourse, let's start there. The incomplete, leaked DLSS5 looks bad.

the model was not trained on children, i'll leave it to you to figure out why. developers who create games with dlss5 available can mask out things and set the level of image generation on them, they can have it do just a little bit or a lot or zero

It looks that DLSS 5 make people older also in other games. In resident evil a woman on the right (DLSS 5) could be the mother of the young girl in the left picture. A different face, a different eye shape and added makeup make this character look older
It looks like Nvidia trained its LLM model on older women :)

Maybe developers should create a special 2D buffer similar to the ID Buffer from PlayStation, where all objects have a unique ID and then include some metadata for NPC objects regarding their age. This way, instead of just 2D color and 2D motion vectors, DLSS 5 would also have an ID buffer with metadata about character age, makeup and the number of fingers to avoid humans with 6–7 fingers :)
This is only a joke... but a metadata like this could actually work and be useful for GenAI.

Actual question, seems like a great place for it.
Are the devs intended to fine tune this for their characters or is this just going to be a magical black box people have to hope outputs something better on the other end?
And follow up question, are modders going to be able to inject suggestion between the game and the frame generation?
Like Nexus mods "Make Joel look like Hugh Jackman Mod" or what?

Lemme tell ya, I used to work with kids for a couple years and some of em don’t just look older than they are, some of em look like short, exhausted adults 😂

Intention: “The DLSS filtering makes this child look like she’s in her 40’s.”

The dlss makes environments look pretty good but destroys the faces. I also dislike that it removes the art direction of games. Even if they're ment to look super realistic they all have a unique art direction and this AI stuff just destroys that work.

Does anyone who has their hands on the software know if all these really bad ones are a result of the slider being cranked unreasonable high? I've seen YouTube videos where it isn't even close to this uncanny.

Funniest DLSS5 conversation I had with an evangelist for it was for a different game, but were talking about how much more real a character looked, and was confused that we were saying they looked so old. After, to that OP, they didn't look a day over 30!
The character was supposed to be 18-20

I HOPE this is some sort of security built into the technology. Just imagine what some sicko could do, if you could actually generate realistic looking children faces onto 3D models.
Not, that it doesn't already happens (and there is always photoshop... Tools get misused, no matter what, sadly enough). But that technology for sure doesn't need to be as easily available as a toggle in a graphics card setting...
Edit:
She also looks like my stepmother (face, obviously), which is REALLY creeping me out.
