Discussion / Question If you could delete a video game franchise from existence what would you pick and why?

Oh easy! Fifa :)
30
u/LichKing885 23h ago
Was looking for this. For me it was either FIFA or CoD.

u/JEMS0N 23h ago
Cod stays but only until before they drop BO4 because the games fell off with that one

They dropped off well before bo4 lol. If you liked cod between bo2 and bo4 you would be fine with cod now
1
u/quentdawg420 20h ago
The thing with cod is it along with halo 3 contributed to the online gaming revolution from 2004-2010
1
u/Inspectorbobo 12h ago
Tbh fifa is cool the problem is yearly release and online casino. CoD is the one of the worst thing that happened to video games and it litteraly finance wars

Roblox for the obvious reasons
3
u/maxnotcharles 8h ago
Roblox should be the number one answer on this thread and I’m glad it is. This game absorbs my step daughter’s life and all the bullshit that comes with it like the pedos, brain rot, etc. is just so fucked.
When I’m was her age, my buddies and I were playing Halo 3, MW2, Castle Crashers, or Minecraft when it first came out.
103
u/Space-Cop 23h ago
Probably Roblox but Fortnite is close
45
u/ains2 23h ago
Fortnight started a trend where now every game has to be a battle Royale and Roblox ruined kids perception of what gaming is.
30
6
u/Oppenbie 22h ago
PUBG started that trend actually. Fortnite was one of many battle royales made after its success. Fortnite just took off better.
→ More replies (1)3
u/Minute-Climate-3137 20h ago
There is so many non battle royal games compared to actual battle royals that ypu sound crazy
12
12
u/ContactMushroom 16h ago
Roblox easily
Pedos run wild and uncontrolled on it
It actively promotes brain rot
It steals from game developers since making a game on it is a terrible idea unless you're trying to learn but also people make ripoffs that are always objectively worse and somehow get praised.
The whole platform is cancer

u/darkgamer303 23h ago
I think we can put all EA sports titles under one franchise right?

League Of Legends.
8
u/poonjam14 23h ago
Such a bummer too. I remember starting out having so much fun with friends then it got worse and worse and became unplayable due to the toxic players out there.
7
u/havoc777 23h ago
Became toxic? It was ALWAYS toxic, even early on. I ended up abandoning that game after a match when a team mate had to disconnect mid match because a family emergency came up. The other 3 team mates went full psychotic and declared they'd make sure he gets banned and was never allowed to play again and that he should kill himself.
Yea.... that franchise, it's staff, and it's entire community all belong in hell.
2
u/poonjam14 22h ago
Yeah it’s possible the tolerance to put up with that shit was higher early on since it was super fun. But yeah it fell off pretty hard. For a while we had a good group of 5 to be able to play so it’s possible we were shielded from it then as other guys moved on and we played with more strangers it fell off hard
1
u/Non-Eutactic_Solid 3h ago
It came from a game mod (DotA) that had no penalties for leaving, no real consequences for toxic behavior, and methods to explicitly grief players that couldn’t be disabled like Io teleports or Pudge hooks.
League was always toxic and came from a game that was even more toxic. DotA2 was itself infamous for how many high-profile players were toxic. The genre is just cursed in terms of player behavior.
3
u/Actual-Impact6571 18h ago
Why not just mute chat and pings and have fun, that’s what I’ve been doing for the last 13 years
1
2
u/CommercialYam7188 22h ago
Not league, never league. League is literally a mechanism by which riot takes money from toxic people and then makes shit like arcane and KDA.
7
u/Les_expos 23h ago
Iracing. The most scammy racing game ever. Paying for a stupid sub and paying 20$ for every cars and tracks are stupid

Roblox because every kid I know with an iPad is absolutely cooked by it. My kid gets 1.5 hours on the weekend on it supervised because it’s paedo Heaven and has absolutely cooked the brains of his peers.
1
u/Foodeater55 8h ago
I always find limited game time silly. Kids are way more active and using their brains and all while playing a quality game.
Kids should get more supervised game time with quality games.
Better then letting them be in front of the tv and watching all that trash
1
u/SilentBlade45 7h ago
I agree but roblox is definitely an exception to the rule because of the pedophiles.

NBA 2K. I used to love the series but for the love of basketball it's just gambling behind a controller. Same with Fifa.

Yeah I used to play a lot of NBA 2k but it gets worse every year and now they're doing it to WWE 2k.

I’d go with any of the mobile games that made people view that market as viable. The money making machine mobile games became altered the trajectory of the industry as a whole.
3
u/4dafryguy 21h ago
Madden
It ruined football video games forever. Bought exclusive rights when they got their asses kicked by 2K, and then refused to improve the game generationally because they had no competition.
2
u/TheWillOfFiree 17h ago
This guy knows ball. Not enough people understand how they literally bought the rights to nfl teams to ensure noone else could make another football game again. Shit shouldn't be legal.

League of Legends. such a bad MOBA compared to many of the moba's we have with a grueling fanbase...
5
u/Away-Call8992 23h ago
Call Of Duty. Activision milks the franchise to much giving quantity over quality games it needs to die and out of it’s misery
1
u/rondo_martin 23h ago
That's just Activision's M.O. They did the exact same for Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, and Marvel games. The only difference is COD seems to refuse to die
1
u/Deus-mal 22h ago
Doesn't matter how many bad things it has done. The master piece it created should never be forgotten.
I'm still have memories like it was yesterday. From playing MW1 2 3 .
Should we let it die, yes. Should we never made it exist hard no.
Same with halo.

u/Beautiful-Papaya9923 20h ago
Fortnite. The success of it encouraged a lot of bad habits for other game developers
16
u/Slight_Gap6762 23h ago
GTA.
Because of the annoying community.
15
u/Azukola 23h ago
Every rabid fan community is annoying, which is present in virtually every franchise tbh.
3
u/Slight_Gap6762 23h ago
I have never seen a community act as wild as this one. They go out of their way to tell you that you will play their beloved game no matter what. That's next level delusion.
4
u/shiv9401 23h ago
I dunno man, I havent seen this much corpo bootlicking before
1
u/elalex1999 23h ago
You can’t compare it to anything you’ve seen before because gta 6 is the most anticipated game of all time. Be serious
3
u/GigglyLulu 11h ago
I asked my husband not too long ago about GTA 6 (I never got into any of them). I know about it though. So I asked this dead serious "so you and everyone else who's anticipating this game are just wanting to be thieves, criminals, and pimps?" Because that's all the game is really lol. Based off drugs, prostitution, and anything else illegal. 😂 l do enjoy watching the people who do insane stuff on it though, trippy but entertaining

I mean, also because rockstar deserves to implode as they are union busters.
Or because they made GTAVs microtransactions predatory as shit.
Or because they want to increase the price of gaming.
Or because they hide basic game components behind a purchase tier.
Or because they’ve used the hype to fuck 2 game release windows.
Or because they can’t put out a quality PC port for the life of them.
But, yeah, the community has been especially buns lately.

Atp call of duty. I know I have fond memories of it but it has to be done
1
u/Peeka789 6h ago
yes but this is from the entirety of history. Call of Duty was a top tier shooter for a good decade. I wouldnt want to lose those years.
1
u/Elegant-Pen-9225 6h ago
All im saying is its a sacrifice I'd be willing to make. Its unfortunate, but i have other memories in other games with the same people.
2
u/BlackHandKUR 20h ago
Destiny
Was a good idea but butchered by greed and incompetence. All the effort put into it could have made for a dozen better games.
2
u/TheOnlyV13 16h ago
Any MOBA. Most of the fandoms from them start out really great, but quickly turn toxic and start getting obnoxious

2
u/RosaCanina87 13h ago
FIFA. I can't count how many times people in my life (school, later work) went "Oh, you play games? Great, I play games, too!" and then, when you talk about "games" they know NOTHING. No Zelda. No God of War. Not even Call of Duty. Oh, there was a console after the DS and Wii? What is a Switch?
But they own 10 games on two consoles, so they call themselves gamers (technically even correct...). Nine FIFA games and ALWAYS one odd one you would never expect (and its usually some kind of hidden gem or rather expensive because rare game).
But the best thing is, when they go "I don't play that much anymore. I kinda stopped enjoying it." and I am like "No, shit. You are playing the same game for 15 years. No wonder you grew tired of it at some point..."

u/alemar2142 11h ago

Madden is single-handedly why we haven’t had a good football game for over 15 years. They made an exclusivity deal with the NFL which makes it basically impossible to release true competitors in the genre.
It sucks because it’s the biggest sport in the US and Madden is hot flaming garbage with arcade like gameplay that doesn’t resemble the sport at all.

u/MobsterDragon275 18h ago
I've seen what Fortnite has done to the teenagers I used to work with, I'm fine with it going
3
u/StarryChocobo 23h ago
Anything 2K and Madden just to annoy the ball and gun gamers.
3
u/JQuab-84 22h ago
It's funny how I know a lot of people who love sports who are really into "nerdy" games too but nerds are complete bitches to people who like sports like they were picked on by an 80's high school bully.
1
u/Actual-Impact6571 18h ago
Fr just about the entire basketball team at my high school played league of legends 😂. I mainly play sports games now because I am physically incapable of playing sports like I used to now that I am older.

Elder Scrolls - I wouldn't miss them and without Horse Armour maybe we wouldn't have microtransactions
3
u/Jpalm4545 11h ago
Some other company would have done it, there were games prior to oblivion that had microtransactions.
2
u/DrHob0 13h ago
Pretty much sports games, if I'm being honest. They add nothing to the industry as a whole except to keep old, dying corporations alive by milking money from gambling addicted people.
As an autistic person who loves video games, I don't think I want to see fortnite deleted from existence, since in its original state, it was a vastly different game that had some fairly interesting features, even if a bit bland.
For the most part, I see value in most games, even in games I don't particularly enjoy. I more so have problems with blatantly predatory games whose sole existence is to trap its users in a never ending cycle of spending money. Because, certainly...the billionaire responsible for that franchise will TOTALLY think of the player and invest that money into their company in order to improve upon the foundations of the game and not just regurgitate the same, cheap ass product to the masses...no, they'd never do that.

u/kablikiblan 19h ago
GTA or Fortnite i cant decide probably GTA its turning gamers into idiots who preorder empty boxes
1
u/Chadderbug123 22h ago
Tied with COD and Fany sort of sports game. Better yet just obliterate EA and activision off the planet.
1
u/HyperXanadu 22h ago
V Rising. Hands down the worst game design I have ever seen in a game. I'm not talking about aesthetic, I'm talking about the actual mechanics, traversal, time, menus, essentially every aspect of that game FIGHTS you to enjoy it. I wanted to keep playing so bad because the artistic design is great and it could be such a top tier franchise but hooooly moley I would burn it if I could.

Fallout. Then i can think of the idea, sell it to a publisher, get rich off of it. And get fat sitting on some beach somewhere.
1
u/MintyFitOnAll 21h ago
As much as I used to LOVE the franchise, made countless montages, played countless GB matches, many tournaments traveled to… Call of Duty. It is so utterly dogshit now. It has lost its entire identity to predatory microtransactions, skill based matchmaking, skill based hit detection/registration and just overall copy and paste shit since MW19. It’s awful. Please let it die.
1
u/bohenian12 21h ago
I just don't want EA and 2K to have an exclusive contract with all sports. But then again, woth how stupid the fans are, I think any company would do what EA and 2K are doing right now because they'd still buy it lmao.

If it's common games, then definitely fortnite.
If it's not so well known games, then horrid shit like 🍇play(that game should've never even tried to release internationally back in the day, it's horrible so please for the love of god don't fall down the rabbit hole of the rest of the shit Illusion Soft developed in Japan...)

Madden. EA played dirty and bought exclusive rights to nfl teams so 2k could never make them work for a game ever again.

u/Neither_Tip_5291 16h ago
Assassin's creed. They lost sight of the original plot, then decided to use it as a platform to rewrite history. In the end they just ruined the story and the franchise. Ubisoft would be better off without it.
1
u/nashfrostedtips 16h ago
Call of Duty.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the early games in the series, but I would really like to see what would have happened if MW2 hadn't been the death knell for new games getting dedicated servers, Nothing in multiplayer gaming compares to the fun I had on a few TF2 servers (DDR's all crits, NoHeroes CTF Heaven, for my favourites) and matchmaking just feels like it doesn't create a communal feeling.
1
u/Solazarr 14h ago
I would rather remove one bad entry from a franchise
...Nevertheless NBA 2K/Fifa/ Annual sports games with little to no additions
1
1
u/MagicianWarm248 14h ago
I’d have to say 2k. Its monopoly on basketball video games has destroyed that genre. And some of my homeboys and many others are just enslaved by their yearly release cycle which funds them even further to continue pumping out trash games

COD because living on a drip-feed of bro-coded military propaganda simply isn't good for anyone. That's how you get a Pete Hegseth.

Roblox mainly due to the amount of trouble it got itself into and for it being a bad influence on kids.

u/redboi049 7h ago
Either Roblox, because it's starting to get legitimately harmful to kids. Heartbound, because it was the main thing fuelling Piratesoftware's popularity, and his popularity hurt the StopKillingGames movement immensely. Or GTA5, Because it would be so fucking funny

Bro I never had any experience with peds but when I was a kid in like 2007-2010 I fucking deeeeestroyed several computers playing Roblox. Idk if was a virus target or if my parents just didn’t know how to clear cookies or whatever but our family PC, my moms laptop, and some other devices were all victims of Roblox apparently.
My mom got so mad she figured out how to block it on all our home computers after BUYING NEW ONES so I switched to habbo hotel where I did encounter…. Hmmm. Peds is not the right word but idk what the fuck was going on.

The Last of Us so people could stop talking about it like it is some masterpiece of gaming. It's a interactive movie at best that has a story that has been told better in other media. It's gameplay is so barebones as well.
