Discussion / Question Recently finished Cyberpunk 2077 and found it to be an amazing game. Peak. That being said I don't understand all the hate it gets. I see it as a 10/10 game. How did you guys like it?

My guy, you did not experience it when it came out. It was buggy mess. Now it’s amazing but it took a long time to get there

I loved it but I didn't play it at launch. It sounds like they fixed a lot by the time the DLC released.

I played it on pc with luckily minimal bugs at launch. It was okay. I recently played phantom liberty and it upped the game from 7/10 to 9/10 for me. It redeemed itself imo

Imagine releasing a game where you hamstring any reviewers from saying anything bad about it while be a huge buggy mess. So bad that Sony pulled it from their online store bc so many people called in to get a refund.

It gets mostly hate for its Launch and for being first-person, but it's a good game, one of the best of the decade.

honestly, if it was third person I wouldn't have played it. I was kind of bummed out in the beginning that there wasn't a third person but I actually grew to enjoy it

Sure, first-person games seem a bit more intimidating due to the immersion in this type of game. Although they don't particularly appeal to me, I can say that it's a great game, and there are many examples of that: Far Cry 3, BioShock Infinity, borderlands 2 For me, they're amazing games.

People who need exclusivity third person games are synths. I like playing what the game developers intended to be played like. If it’s third, great. If it’s first great.

Strong disagree. Cyberpunk 2077 is amazing now, but it was a buggy disaster at launch (and this is coming from someone who loved it at launch). The issues at launch largely came from it launching well before it was ready.

Th open world is boring and pointless, with nothing to see or do beyond repetitive map markers ala Ubisoft. It was also advertised as the next generation of open world games but it is STILL missing features present in open world games since GTA3. The story is okay but overwrought and way too self serious. Combat is pretty fun but enemy AI is brain-dead.
It's like a 6/10. It's pretty and kinda fun to play but not much more going on there

A believable lived-in feel. Whether that's NPCs responding in cool and interesting ways to what you do, or the wanted system, or whatever.

For an open world RPG it's pretty bad at both. There's only like 4 viable builds and some take a while to come online. Choices are also largely artificial.

Pop in is also present to a jarring extent. When I drive through the map I end up getting distracted by all the signs and billboards popping into existence about 50ft out from the car. Because cityscape is so cluttered it's happening constantly.

I gabe it a 2nd try after the edgerunner update. After arriving with panam i got softlocked in the gas station quest and my last manual save (not auto save) was 12 houres back. The softlock arrived earlier through a call and the autosaves alteady overwrote that part. So i quited again. Maybe if im bored as hell in 2-3 years i try it again

It's gotta be just because release. I've got a friend that has owned it since day one and refuses to touch it still because of his experience with it from the release day. It will always be the shittiest game he's ever played because he won't give it a second chance.

I got lucky on launch, I made it about 75% through the main quest with about 70 hrs of playtime before my game got wonky. I never encountered anything game or save breaking in my first playthrough.

Ive tried 4 separate times to get into it. Its just not for me. The last time I played I think I got maybe 30 hours in and I just didn't care about anything going on, I didnt enjoy the gameplay or the hacking system, I didnt like any of it. I just didnt like it. I dont like Witcher 3 either, thinking I just dont like CDPR games in general

It changed my life when I finally got around to playing it after trying two or three times.
I tried to replay it again recently and just couldn't get the magic back.
I'll still recommend it to anyone but it's 9/10 for me.

I had to stop my playthrough on my PS5, it was riddled with bugs, both in-game and on the main menu (9 times out of 10 it would freeze at the main menu, my cursor wouldn't respond)
It's a shame, I really liked the combat.

some times if you areant connected to wifi or internet then if you had the original disc it would have downloaded version 1.0, but i dont know what happened then

I tried 4 different times and ran into game breaking bugs three of those times, finally got past all those bugs in the fourth go but kept running into smaller bugs that just turned me off, this game for me is a 3/10, I have no idea how anyone can ignore the plethora of problems and bugs with this game on CONSOLE to make it thru a whole play thru, must be better on pc, p.s. I really didn't like almost any of the skills on the different skill trees so that was another reason I gave up on it, if anyone wants the disc on Xbox I'll sell it to you for 10 bucks

People hate on it because that’s their opinions. There are always going to be haters even if you get a game that has been developed by every good developer from every 10/10 studio ever. Someone is going to hate on the game.

You played it when it wasn’t broken/breaking apart due to bugs and probably more content complete after updates and DLC.
Don’t pretend like the hate on release wasn’t justified. The game got refunds and was delisted on the PS store for a while. Now though, it’s alright.

It’s a nice game, but the beautiful world feels so empty and there isn’t much to do. Also the story is extremely short. Finished it within 2 days. To be very honest, I would rate it a 7/10. They could and should have done much better. Hopefully we’ll witness an improved sequel of the game.

Like others have said — It was the launch, and what appeared to be CD Projekt seemingly turning into every other AAA game studio.
The background was riddled with ‘IP’ design and ‘franchise makeup’ instead of just making it for the sake of making a good game.
A lot of the people responsible for that have now seemingly left and they have gained a lot of good will back.

I played it at launch on PC (2080ti) and had no problems. Most of the hate was from PS4 and last gen XBox players.

You gotta understand the context for that hatred. Like that game should never have been released to the public in the state that it was in, there were lawsuits, boycotts. It was basically an unplayable game in some instances. Yes this is a nice redemption story and I personally think cyberpunk 2077 is one of the greatest games ever made NOW, but I will never blame people who played it on launch and are still not able to let go of that bitter disappointment.

A lot of people are talking about the buggy release, but I’ll also add there were a lot of promises made which never made it. Your life path was meant to fundamentally change your playthrough but in reality it was a short 20 min prologue and occasional flavour dialogue. The gameplay trailer showcasing all the cool things you could get up to turned out to be a short cinematic. Early demo showed vertical exploration, flying AVs, targeted advertisements. Most of these systemic interactions were scaled back or absent entirely. Police were meant to put bounties on you and other npcs could come after you. In the end some of the promises turned out to be mistranslated, but a lot of what was expected is not in what you ended up playing.

This was my biggest complaint and other than you, I never see anyone mention it. I was never sold on it being the greatest game ever but I was intrigued by the gameplay promises, living out my bladerunner dreams, and I had just bought a rtx 3080. Outside of the bugs, the game just didn’t do most of the exciting things I thought it would. It still doesn’t do much for me outside of atmosphere and narrative. Owned since release, bought the DLC, still haven’t finished any of it.

The hype around the game whipped the normies into a frothy lather it was going to be better GTA in an actually interesting setting. You know the type. The people in YouTube comments convinced it will be a second life simulator. I don't even think it was CDPRs fault, they weren't out there promising the world like some other case studies of the same phenomenon. Just a consequence of a huge hype cycle, long time from teaser trailer to launch, and frankly incredible vertical slice gameplay demo shown off (the spiderbot militech level got shown pre launch).
Then when it's just a game that has a rough launch the mob turned on them. I love it fwiw, all time game. But I know not to play CDPR games on launch.

It was a mess on release, I 100% it at some point, it's not 10/10 even now.
Fairly shallow, I don't like that I'm dead at the start, and there's nothing I can do about it.
Still, I got close to 300 hours on it, so I can't shit on it too much.

I'd give it an 8/10 nowadays, I was around for the launch. Lots of things like the story that was rushed can't really be fixed atp. Still a really enjoyable game that I'd recommend to people

I always wanted to like it but I can never get past the initial few missions/quests after whats-his-face dies in the cab, was hard to get into even though the setting is appealing. I keep telling myself to try again but after 3 attempts It just doesn't click.

IDK, when you play the game you can feel that it was an ambitious project that crumbled under its own weight. Game has no reason being this big. Scope is enormous, but the content is spread thin, with a huge chunk of it being meaningless padding. Gameplay is janky and barely any fun, game design is a failure in almost every aspect. The game is saved by incredibly strong writing which is at an almost unparalleled level in the industry, especially the AAA. I'd even argue that CDPR owes their entire reputation to their writers and artists. They create beautiful worlds with compelling, deep, mature stories, but you interact with them through just straight incompetent game. Whatever rating you give the game, it entirely depends on how much you're willing to forgive its shortcomings for its strengths.

Does it get hate ? In some disproportional sense ? It was probably the most hyped of all time, matched only by GTA 6 right now. It broke sales records. Companies were moving their release dates to get away, people were taking days off from work for it. Merchandise everywhere. nvidia RTX posterboy.
The console aspect was bad and that got deserved flak, but the game recovered generally in the public conciousness over time and it became a best seller and the type of game that CD Red imagined it would be, similar to Witcher 3, an evergreen title for them, selling over time forever.
I dont have the perception that the game in its current form or previous was hated, other than the console launch fiasco

The release version for me was about a 7/10.
Didn’t really run into any bugs in the first month but the game just wasn’t anything special. I haven’t gone back to check any of the patches or expansion content.
The world looked good but it was dull and there wasn’t anything to write home about in any part of the game.

First of all I barely see any hate so what are referring to?
And second, since release they patched for five years and this game is still buggy as hell, sometimes freezes, still dumb NPCs, still a soulless world with nothing much to do. Yes it looks great now, makes fun just walking or driving around and enjoy the graphics, but nothing else to do and a very short story, no real decisions to make, and you need a PhD to understand the skill tree and all that stuff 😅

It was a mess at launch sure, but you all bought it and didn't do your due diligence beforehand. I hate that this is the world we live in now, but if you buy a broken game in 2026, that is the norm. You should never preorder and always know what you're getting before you pay for it. The game was a mess at launch but its one of the best games of the last decade regardless. Learn from it, do your homework, don't buy into hype, be conscious of what you give your money to.

It was really rough on release. It’s had dozens of patches and bug fixes to bring it to its current state.
