Discussion / Question What video game do you have EXTREMELY mixed feelings about?
Is there a game that you want to love but has too many problems? Or a game you dislike greatly but unmistakable redeeming qualities? So you can't bring yourself to love them nor hate them, meaning they're stuck in a purgatory? Let us know.

No More Heroes 3
It's the final entry into my all time favourite series and I want to love it so much because it does some pretty cool things gameplay wise.
But the garbage 'random bullshit go!' story and the lack of a Masafumi Takada OST really ruined it.

See I don’t have major gripes with combat but it’s just sooo long and so much reading/watching. I want more of the combat.
I think the remastered version has updates to combat/movement that may help you out.

The first Kingdom Come Deliverance is so unique but there are just way too many bugs to enjoy it, I had to stop halfway through the story from constant crashes

Red Dead Redemption 2. The game is beautiful, the voice acting is superb, the intro is enticing, the story is supposed to be amazing, but I just cannot get into the game's world. It feels sparse and artificial to me.

Breaking news, a game set in the wild west is "sparse". What a horrendous take. Are you being deliberately obtuse? As if it doesn't have booming towns across with map. You can always tell the ones with poor attention spans. Nothing wrong with not liking a game. But to lie and say “its sparse” is hilarious
Edit: I love RDR2 but it's not a perfect game by any means. There are frustrating elements of the game design and it's fine to not like it. But to say it's sparse feels like you're being disingenuous. Knowing that Rockstar of all people have some of the most detailed worlds in games whether it's GTA, RDR or L.A. Noire. In fact, one of the critiques people have of RDR2 is that the game is too overly detailed to the point where they feel bored or overwhelmed with it's mechanics because they find it too realistic

I enjoy it for about two days then I remember its basically a part time job and quit again for a few months....until I forget why I stopped...then the cycle repeats

I played Crimson Desert for like 60 hours when it came out. Had a blast for the first 20 and kind of got diminishing returns afterwards.
I think I just found its sheer breadth of mechanics overwhelming, I’ll probably give it another shot someday.

Bioshock Infinite. I love the first 2, but infinite is tricky for me. It does some neat stuff, but I can’t confidently say that I like or dislike it. Maybe if I understood it more I would like it? But idk, it feels very different and familiar at the same time compared to the first 2

Honestly the story annoys me, like they have people fighting back against the racist government and they just have them kill a kid for no reason so the protagonist can be like above the conflict. Felt very shoehorned in.

Legend of Dragoon feels like it was trying too hard to be Final Fantasy but tried to do things differently so it wouldn't look like they copied. But what they did differently was the opposite of what made the FF games so good.

They tried to make everything cinematic and epic but there's barely time to explore the places and characters it introduces. It's pleasant visually, and it stops right there. It takes itself seriously to a comical degree, and the shoddy localization makes it even harder for me to care.
There's a really good fan translation and the PS4 remaster has automatic additions. If the original game had localization that good and the automatic additions (possibly gained after mastering additions by practicing manually), it would have been an 8 out of 10. Competent voice acting on top of it, bordering on a 9.
Edit: The remaster does NOT have automatic additions. The original has them by selecting the ability which allows your entire party into their dragoon forms. And I believe there's an accessory that allows you to have automatic additions but for less damage. Wargod Calling I believe

Limited inventory like every FF, no Magic until your Dragoon form, Overworld fast travel was way more sluggish and limited are a few examples. I'm playing right now for the first time and I'm near the end. It's been a struggle

Red Dead has some of the worst storytelling ever tbh, the only way the writers know how to create drama or tension is just randomly killing off characters in some of the most anticlimactic ways ever

Bioshock. I really like the setting, the atmosphere is amazing, but I really don't like the gameplay. I got as far as the part where you have to turn into a big daddy, which I found extremely tedious, and then the game crashed and I had to go back to the beginning of that sequence, I haven't opened the game since, I kinda feel it had been going on for too long already anyway.

I want to like this game so bad, but the writing/dialogue/localization (whatever the issue is) always turns me off. The back and forth between characters just isn't interesting and comes of cheesy to me. I feel like I would have loved it as a kid though.

Its a fun game, the wastness of the game is 🥰🥰 Combat is Betsheda cool. Fun weapons and NPC Have space battles 🎉🎉
Cons What is supposed to be "adult" is PG13 😥 Few clothing options Actually fun POI feels far apart Settlement building and weight limits, feels little restrictive

Bloodborne. The first real boos is father gascignoe, he's so fucking hard. BB doesn't use the DS healing system, you need to farm health potions and in the first map this is so hard as all the enemies suck. The boss, father gascignoe, is so fucking hard since you can't really level up before him, you only have the 3 shittiest weapons. And you have to keep taking breaks from learning his attacks to go farm health potions from the most boring map ever that at no point helps you to understand how to beat father gascignoe. You can't do anything else till you beat him.
I hate bloodborne. In sorry but this one guy ruined the game for me. He is so hard to beat and then then you do the next 92% of the game is piss easy. Blood starved beast is simple, I honestly cns believe anyone who beat father gascignoe could ever have any issue with the rest of the game, which is piss fucking easy till the final fights.
Bloodborne fuckin sucks ass. It's got a fairly cool story but like all soulsborne games it need the community to figure out. The bosses in this game are all but 3 are ultra mega ass. Bloodborne had the most uneven difficulty ramp I've ever seen. I absolutely didn't enjoy this game and the bullshit tmeirh father gascignoe just made me hate BB till the very end. It's the single worst paced game of all time.
Took me like 50+ attempts to beat father gascignoe and then after that the next 98% of bosses were so easy I beat them all on my first attempt. The game was so shitty after that, it was absolutely trivial untill the final bosses and the DLC shit I didn't want to do. Fuck bloodborne. It's no where even remotly as good as dark souls 1. No other fromsoft game ever gets close to DS1. I put BB below DeS, all the way at the bottom. Pathetic excuse for a souls game. DS2 is lightyears better in every single aspect.

My only problem with LoD is that fatigue creep once you reach act 3-4 that pretty much every turn-based rpg has.
Overall I felt LoD found that good balance of keeping things fun with the more active battles. Decent music, okay art style (held back by graphics for sure) I even felt they slid away from FF by not making battles go on too long. Many enemies were decimated pretty quickly (or you were) and items that reduced random encounters were available pretty much from the beginning.
