Discussion / Question Game-Streaming will legit never be mainstream.

Post image

A) The connection quality has to be better then what is available in most developed nations on earth in order for most games to be playable.

B) This bs where there's a queue??

C) You can't AFK for more then 5 minutes without getting booted out.

Not only that, the connection drops constantly. I played the entire Sly trilogy over streaming with playstation plus, because I didn't own a Playstation. It dropped. Fucking. Constantly. CONSTANTLY!

It was the worst way to experience a good game.

You basically have to guarantee you'll provide the best connection anyone has ever seen. And that's not gonna happen, not when you have several people fighting over Bandwidth.

I have one experience worse when anticheat froze a single player games for over a second every 5 seconds.

But at least with that I had the option of disconnecting the console to play smoothly.

I wont touch streaming until it become the default and even then itll be iffy

Wait, one can stream ps games online? Meaning I can play gta 6 over internet?

4

u/GenTenStation 1h ago

No that’s definitely not going to be a thing

u/That-Cranberry6575 1h ago

Why didn’t you stop? Why didn’t you do anything besides eat their shit for three whole games?

u/Majestic_Balance1887 1h ago

...I mean I bought a month's worth of sub, I may as well get what I paid for.

"I ordered a shirt and it is super ugly and uncomfortable. I might as well keep wearing it."

How is that a comparison? I rented the service. I wanted to play the games. I, at the time wasn't really knoweldgeable about emulation.

Jesus, Reddit cant act normal can it?

Redditors are legit smug about the dumbest shit. Ignore them.

Your own words:

"Not only that, the connection drops constantly."

"It was the worst way to experience a good game."

And last one where you argue that you have to do something in order to play BUT it will not happen:

"that's not gonna happen, not when you have several people fighting over Bandwidth."

I am arguing that you did a sunk cost fallacy. You did not get what you paid for. You acted idiotic by your own words. You are right you rented it. But you were not given the object/service you wanted to order. You are an idiot consumer-ones that business like. I would not be surprised if you get another game the same way and complain again.

I never rented the service again. I used it while I had it. I did not enjoy the experience.

Being this aggressive is how you turn people against causes you support. Quit pinging my inbox or I'll force you to stop.

You would force me to stop? You are now threatening me? Yes lets talk about aggression.

I think you think this is a larger conversation then it is. I was not trying to convince you on any side of support. I used logic and facts. And also your own words.

And just so you know this is what you said: "If you are mean to me I will not believe anything you say even if it is logical and correct."

I was not aggressive. I just used a similar comparison so you could see how it sounds when you remove it from the situation into a similar situation.

You were the one that extrapolated a lot and said I was the one "not acting normal." I then just quoted you. And then you responded with a threat.

You would force me to stop? You are now threatening me? Yes lets talk about aggression.

No, I'm just gonna block you. Weirdo.

Please take your pills, you are clearly unwell.

How so? Please explain my logic is flawed. Other then just insults.

u/Dear_Meeting_1258 1h ago

Also what if the streaming stops? You’d then lose access to games.

7

u/Lordgrapejuice 1h ago

That’s the idea. They want you to not own anything. They want you to rent it for a fee. Pay them repeatedly, not just once.

I used geforce now to play gpu intensive games because i had a shit pc until i saved enough to get a much better one. It is good as a temporary solution and also if you are on the move and you want to play games from your phone.

my friend joked the same about bezos streaming games

When the demo for kingdom hearts cloud version came out on switch, I had to try it. It was fucking awful. Why in the fuck would I want to play a game where every input has a different amount of delay? Why would I want to play a game where there's constant bitrate artifacts and blurriness? I think there's a time and a place for streaming games but I'll never sit down in my own home and stream a game.

what in the world is game streaming

2

u/GenTenStation 1h ago

Dystopian nightmare fuel

u/Ok-Sprinkles-4718 1h ago

Lots of services offer it. Playing a game on a remote console/server and streaming it to your own screen. Results are usually not amazing.

u/steed_jacob 30m ago

Cloud gaming. I use nvidia GeForce now and with good internet it works great. I just don’t have a dedicated gaming device so it’s what I’m using for now. It’s def better to own games and run them on your own system though

1

u/youngliam 1h ago

It sucks and never works smoothly even with a solid wired connection.

1

u/DarthTomG 1h ago

There are so many places in the world, and even within the USA too, with horrible/bad internet connections still. These people still were able to be customers/gamers due to physical and offline gaming.

1

u/whyamihere2473527 1h ago

It will be cause companies will force it & idiots will use it

u/Glum_Animator_5887 1h ago

NGL I have never waited for Xbox game streaming

u/condor6425 1h ago

Even if the tech gets there, we shouldn't want game streaming to be mainstream. Companies will jump on the opportunity to sell people games without them ever getting any of the game data. Archivists will no longer be able to preserve our cultural history, the popular games will probably remain available but if history is an indicator lots will be lost by the IP holders without fan archivists working to preserve them. We should all be fighting tooth and nail every time they attempt to push game streaming.

u/ComicsEtAl 1h ago

Not in my house it won’t.

2

u/Ok-Sprinkles-4718 1h ago

And it doesn’t even work with all internet providers. I have PlayStation Plus and it won’t even allow me to attempt streaming, even with a fast connection.

u/Careful-Shine8768 1h ago

I’ve really enjoyed my experience with GeForce Now and XBOX. Luna works decently as well but I haven’t used it as much. I have an unlimited cell plan and before Fortnite came back to the App Store I used cloud streaming to hop on and it works pretty well.

1

u/Sonic10122 1h ago

I’ve only used streaming like this for PS3 games on PS5 since that’s the only option. And it’s been…. Fine. I never notice a difference in terms of input lag and usually there’s not enough people playing Ico or Ratchet and Clank to warrant a queue lol.

Still not my preferred way to play, but I’m not mad about it as an option.

u/Sea_Perspective6891 58m ago

Game Pass is a much better concept.

Not even the issues with streaming itself and queues, etc. Nvidia streaming limits your game session depending on your payment plan as well. And there are still issues with connection to the servers, lag, etc. And all that without even going into what internet people have because ideally you want a very good fast and stable internet and that isn't widely available even today and many places don't have fiber either.

1

u/ZeektheFeek 1h ago

This is very subjective and depends on personal set up and what type of streaming you're even talking about.

I have messed with Xbox cloud gaming and it works very well for me. I have played the last few years of Xbox first party titles without even owning a Xbox console. Most of the time just playing the games right off my phone while travelling. And I'm sure this is the type of streaming you're mostly referring to.

However in home network streaming is completely revolutionary in my opinion. I have been using Moonlight streaming for 3 years now and have a solid set up where I can stream up to 4k60 HDR with 1ms of latency from my PC to every screen in my house possible that supports it. And I have moonlight set up on every screen I own and can play my PC games from the comfort of wherever I am in my house. I couldn't imagine PC gaming any other way anymore.

Estimated wait of 1 minute! You could die while waiting!

2

u/chiron_42 1h ago

The issue is in the future when a big release like GTA is out and the only option is to stream it.

u/KingHygelacReturns 1h ago

I have a fairly good internet connection in my house. It seems like this might be more of a PlayStation issue than anything. I used to think that game streaming was terrible when I was a PS subscriber, but then I tried GamePass and regularly stream games to my phone, my AYN Thor, my computer and my Fire Stick with virtually no problems. There's the occasional slowdown or lag, but nothing compared to what I was dealing with on PlayStation. I feel like Sony hasn't invested in the infrastructure to actually make it work.

1

u/rvnender 1h ago

Its because sonys infrastructure is awful and has been for 2 decades now.

-1

u/Warm-Reporter8965 1h ago

Maybe not on PS5, but it's huge on Xbox with Cloud Play and I use GeForce Now from my Xbox to play my PC games. GeForce Now is a lifesaver, that thing is God's gift to man. I really like Shadow PC to, that service is amazing as well.

0

u/Lurker_Zee 1h ago

It's gonna be mainstream, but it's always going to get pushback.

All it takes for everything to collapse is some people not being able to enter their single-player game for a few hours while servers crash, then the physical media people will tell them "told you so" and "sail the seven seas".

Then there'll be the indies "have this archive, pay me $10, see ya". That's going to be a constant and never-ending pressure on AAA companies.

Zero issue with Luna or Xbox streaming.

I will admit getting booted for being afk to long is slightly annoying.

0

u/Affectionate_Fact854 1h ago

I was one to vouch for kicking afk players no matter if it was destiny 2 or Dota 2

Go afk offline :D

0

u/WorthBase919 52m ago

Lol nah it makes sense to me, nobody keeps their games downloaded anyway, everybody is always connected, everyone uses a subscription. Sorry to say but you’ve been voting with your wallet for this for a long time.

0

u/idkwc 51m ago

Yeah there is absolutely no reason for people to doom about streaming games

0

u/Muugen_Samurai 42m ago

Bro complaining whille spending 80+$ to play classic games on ps5

-3

u/ShoppingSilly6431 1h ago

People who stream games are the problem that all of us will suffer in the future.

-1

u/cowabanga_it_is 1h ago

I stream on ps portal a lot and its great, but i agree streaming won't be mainstream. Its great a great addition to your platform of choice.

Streaming players will also get cooked online by native players. Even the small lag it adds is very noticeable when playing online.

-1

u/Upstairs-Event-681 1h ago

Honestly this never happened to me. And the internet back home where I got the PS5 isn’t amazing at all

-2

u/Millennialnerds 1h ago

So yes there is a queue to get started on it.

And if they didn’t boot people then your Queue would be longer.

I agree it might not be serviceable in areas with poor internet but man I love it.

-2

u/Known-Complex-2520 1h ago

A) We all rely on Internet, either upgrade your speed or don't game.

B) Yeah..?

C) I don't think you understand how a queue works.

It's the way of the future.
