Learning Wedding Videography Systematically - Need Your Help!

Hey everyone!

I'm a wedding videographer and I've filmed three weddings so far. Honestly though, I'm not satisfied with the results at all because it was just me winging it with half knowledge, you know? Now I really want to learn intensively and systematically all the important areas that a wedding videographer needs to master.

The stuff I still need to learn about:

• Sound design
• Storytelling
• Structure / editing flow
• Those powerful beats that always hit (you know, those certain templates that the pros use)
• Basically everything to create those amazing films like you see on YouTube

My problem: I know some really great YouTube channels, but when I see their thumbnails, my ADHD brain literally freaks out. Then I'm like "bro, do I have to watch EVERY single video from that channel to get good?" and my head just explodes. That doesn't help me if I'm totally overwhelmed.

I know that a lot of it is learning by doing, but you can still prepare yourself systematically and build up the knowledge beforehand, right? Now I finally want a proper system on how to really master wedding videography and create those fire films like the ones you see everywhere on YouTube.

Can you recommend any courses from experienced wedding videographers? Or are there any structured learning paths so I don't feel completely lost?

You learn by doing and you’re doing it so that’s great. Not being satisfied is also good because it shows you want to grow and develop. Watch some videos, make some notes, try some new things and ultimately figure out your preferences. Your preferences will become your style. Why aim for what everyone else is doing on YouTube, when you could be aiming for creating work that is unique to you, that you love to create and be hired to do exactly that.

3 Hochzeiten sind gar nichts. Lern erstmal den Ablauf, die Dynamik des Tages und parallel in deiner Freizeit story telling dazu. Lass dich vom Insta bums nicht ablenken. Frag die Paare lieber was SIE sich wünschen. Das ist was dir vorerst geld in die Kasse spült

Ich würde an deiner Stelle mir paar andere Videos anschauen und Inspiration von shots sammeln. Abends im Bett (oder tagsüber am Tisch ist eigentlich egal wann ) überlegst du dir, wie dir das gefällt und stellst dir mal so ein Szenario vor, wie gut lässt sich das umsetzten. Wenn du dann aus deinen eigenen Ideen die Lust daraus bekommst, fängt der edit teil an. Schaue das tendenziell alles etwas heller aussieht. Also nicht höherbelichten, sondern es soll ausgeglichen sein und wie eine Art Traum wenn du verstehst. Also gute Belichtung und schöne Farben, schö e Weiß tone und nicht zu viel Schwarz.
