I actually don't think it would be too hard for him to end with a positive spin if they froze the front lines right now. They got Crimea, and currently hold 100% of the Luhansk region and about 90% of Donetsk. So he could say he saved the Russian majority from Ukrainian government and of course he expanded Russia. And we all know Trump would jump on the opportunity to make that deal. So Putin does have a way out, if he was smart enough to take it.

Maybe Modi should stop supporting Russia then. I believe when I see actions, but I don't think Modi is serious. This is just concern for energy and trade from Russia. Modi is only concerned about the instability as Putin's folly continues.

Almost all of the Russian crude was just being refined and shipped off to Europe for years. India was just a convenient scapegoat for headlines. In reality, everyone was in on the act and pretended that the west was not funding the Russians.

India gets flak for "buying russian oil and funding the war" whereas it was, for the longest time, just refining russian crude and selling it to Europe.

Trump and his antics has now been choking the oil supply for the entire world and somehow the dirt poor Indians have to pay the price and stop buying the oil they can get their hands on.

I'm really tired of people telling Russia "The war must end" like it's a solution that needs to be worked towards but nobody is at fault because we're supposed to maintain some vague friendly diplomacy.
