Found this hook amongst others and old crochet lace projects. It's absolutely gorgeous and beyond tiny. Does anyone have information about the brand? I can't find anything!

Unpopular opinions- vintage crochet edition!

What are you vintage crochet-related unpopular opinions?

One of mine is that I am, for the most part, anti-pineapples. I think they can be done tastefully, but usually they’re at best lazy design and at worst almost garish and vulgar.

1970s scored at my local flea mall!!

I was told to cross post my recent treasure here……I’m always on the hunt for weird vintage patterns I can find in the wild. I scored this for $6! I had to have it once I saw the optical illusion blanket and the Victorian blouse. There’s over forty patterns in this thing for women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing as well as home decor and an introduction to crochet section. It includes several patterns to customize existing clothes with her signature Magic Mandala insert design on top of actually wearable designs. Looks like I need to find some angora and some cotton somewhere…

Per the title page and publication info page, Shanie Jacobs’ Crochet Book by Shanie Jacobs was published in 1979 by The Bobbs-Merrill Company, Inc. and this version is a first printing.

Let me know if you want to see any of the pieces or the glossy photo pages

The one on the left is her’s, much tighter stitches than mine and still smells like her kitchen!
I have such renewed respect for her workmanship!!
The pattern is the lantern hot pad from a 1950 book called Suggestions for fairs and bazaars.

Antique bedspread coverlet / tablecloth?

My mom just showed me this beautiful piece that was made by my great great grandmother and my mind was blown by how long this must have taken to make! Has anyone seen this particular pattern before? I found some similar-ish with google image search, but couldn’t find anything exact. She lived to almost 100 years old (from 1872- 1971) so it could have been from anywhere within that timeframe. It’s roughly the size that would fit a full size bed. I wish I knew more about it!

This is definitely a long shot, but I’ve been trying to find a pattern that matches Willow and Tara’s bedspread for years. I may be able to cobble together few patterns but wanted to put it out there to you all and see if there were any leads I’ve been missing?
I’ve looked through FreeVintageCrochet and AntiquePatternLibrary quite a bit, but have some neurological issues that inhibit extensive scrolling, so I may have missed something there.
Please let me know if you happen to have any thoughts or ideas!

HELP Instructions are not clear (hat pattern from 1930s)

Post image

I am making this hat: https://freevintagecrochet.com/spool149/26-off-the-face-sailor-hat-pattern

The body is understandable but when I came to brim I got confused. What does it mean to "use thread double"? And why does it says to "sc in each st, taking up both loops" when the picture looks like it's all made working in back loop?

Brim: Use thread double and work 1 s c in back loop of each st. 2nd to 7th rnds incl: 1 s c in each st, taking up both loops of st of previous rnd. 8th rnd: Increase 4 times at equal spaces. 9th rnd: Work even. 10th rnd: Work even over 6 inches then increase 1 st every 2 inches for 6 times and work even to finish rnd. 11th to 14th rnds incl: Work even. Fasten off. Turn brim up all around, flaring at the front.

Looking for missing Crochet-Me Yarnables by Bouquet Bernat?

howdy! i need some help locating patterns that would've existed late 80s to mid 90s. i'm not sure if that's considered vintage enough? 😅

recently, i found a whole collection of these Yarnables patterns. my issue is that i'm missing #1615 Nickolas and #1616 Frosty. i've attempted to comb several archives (and ebay) with no luck. i could probably attempt to guess-work them from the other patterns when i get around to it, but it'd be nice to to still have them in my collection.

if anyone has any idea where i could find these, even simply scanned into a PDF, i would appreciate it immensely!

chat What is the consensus on selling vintage crochet patterns?

I do not want to sell any patterns!

I have seen a few etsy listings for pattern pdfs from some of the golden hands books (from the 1970s). I inherited almost all of the books from my gran and planned to just scan and post some of the patterns (for free of course)… but I’m still a crochet newbie and don’t want to step on anyone’s toes. It seems wrong to me to try sell patterns you did not write but maybe if the patterns are rewritten with more inclusive sizing and clearer instructions then it’s different?

An example listing here

WIPs Sometimes I Forget How Stretchy Shells Really Are

Post image

Size 10 thread on a 1.75mm hook. Gauge was perfect pre-stretch, and I pinned out to the measurements the pattern said. The piece on top shows you the size the back was before I did the work. I'm waiting for the whole thing to dry after steaming, then seaming and some detail work (neck pleats, a front gather, and then sewing on the waist ties). I just couldn't believe the difference in size when I pinned it and figured you'd all enjoy it.
