First Inkle Loom project ever is off the loom and waiting on hardware to become a camera strap for my camera. It’s been over a year since I sat down at any of my looms to create, so this project was just the right amount of fast and fun to pull me back in. Thrift store inkle loom ftw.

I struggled with my selvage the most, but finally found a rhythm with it. I was weaving WAY too loose the first 10-15 picks before I found a snug standard to stay consistent by.

This is my first weaving-type project. I really enjoyed making it!! I found the frame in the street a while back and all the fabric are bottoms of shirts that I’ve cropped over the past couple years

You don't always need to increase and decrease stitches to shape a woven garment, like we do with knitting and crochet.

With woven pieces, there's another possibility: you can shape the garment by joining simple geometric pieces together.

I find squares are particularly interesting because they can be arranged and joined in different ways to follow the body. Instead of shaping the fabric while you weave, you can weave a pile of simple flat pieces and shape the garment afterwards.

And this opens the door to something I find even more interesting: unusual shapes.

It can also be surprisingly simple. You can weave flat pieces, make a pile of them, and then join them with a basic seam.

This Yoga Sleeveless Sweater is one example of this approach that I have designed: a few woven squares in a bright lovely shade, creatively joined together to create an original, comfortable garment.

It’s made of yarn and canvas strips from Trader Joe’s bags. I’ll be cutting up more cloth soon to make strips for weaving. My hope is to mostly use canvas but I’ll likely use old sheets and clothing I no longer wear.

I feel like the most arduous part of this is cutting fabric. It takes hours. I can’t wait to be done with that part and get back to weaving.

Mixed warp of 3/2 cotton and 8/4 rug warp sett at 30epi for some rep weave rugs.

Have this gorgeous blanket and wondering how it was made. it seems to be sort of two things of fabric but woven together? in places without much design you can pull the sides apart but they're connected where the images are. Does anyone know what style of weaving this is?

Is Double warping on double heddles on an Ashford SampleIt 16” worth doing?

I am new to weaving and got myself a secondhand Ashford SampleIt 16”. I LOVE the couch friendly size it is!

I want to weave kitchen towels, but I hear that they are usually wider than what my 16” inch offers. I also have heard that double warping 8/2 on a 10 dent reed makes some excellent towels.

Has anyone done double width weaving with a double warp? Or is it too finicky to attempt?

Or would it be better to attempt double width with 8/4 on 10 dents so I won’t have to double warp?

Hi lovelies! I posted on here a couple weeks ago about starting weaving as a hobby and how much it’s changed my life. To give an update, I just finished my first project a few minutes ago and gave it to my dad as a birthday present. I’ve still got quite a ways to go as far as my skill is concerned, but altogether I’m proud that I was able to follow through with those project from start to finish!

P.S. Does anyone have any tips for preventing cinching of the warp thread?

I've seen a few posts here showing industrial loom woven jacquard blankets and such. To own a jacquard loom is as someone said, "a tad pricey".

I follow LMRMChicago on insta. If you learn the software and take their operation courses, you can, IIRC, go in and weave on a big old honkin' TC2 jacquard loom. It's something like $50-$75 bucks a yard, depending on the warp they have on it, but if you want to do a one-of-a-kind woven panel this might be a thing.

I did a quick math in my head and to train yourself up, then rent the loom and do the weaving, it would be SOOoooOOOoooo much less expensive than actually owning a TC2. YMMV of course, but every time I see something come off those looms, I'm like maybe I'll get to do that before I'm 80.

Anyway-for all you really talented folk out there- check it out. And there may be other maker type spaces that offer big over 16 shaft looms for rent.

If I've got this story wrong, please correct me! But how cool would that be????

I have recently acquired a little frame loom (after doing cardboard loom stuff with kids) and I have been enjoying using it to make some coasters. Making them is very enjoyable and I feel like I'm getting a hang of stringing the loom up and weaving the ends back in. However, I've been stacking them to, I don't know, make more efficient use of having the loom warped, and taking them off is absolutely horrible! When it was just the one and I could pull the warp through, that wasn't so bad. I also can get confused reading/watching tutorials but that's just me...

Should I just be making them one by one? Does anyone have any tips?

Also, if there are other small usable things to make on a frame loom, I would love to hear it. I was thinking of making a dishcloth next. I don't really know what to do with this stuff either...I'm not sure I'm happy enough with my own quality to think about giving anything as a gift to my friends for a while!

Received this in a lot that included a large floor loom, spinning wheel, and various weaving and yarn notions and tools. Does anyone know what this is?

complete beginner here with nothing but a cardboard loom and curiosity, any tips/guides on how to get multiple layers when weaving a tapestry? like if it was a scene the sky on one, then the trees, then the foreground to really make it 3d

also, any tips on designing a pattern/how you transfer an idea from your brain to the tapestry?

Waves have appeared along both fringed ends and are moving inward toward the field. It's getting worse. Distinct creases are visible on the reverse.
The rug has never been washed, has always been indoors and dry, no water exposure, no insect damage or bare pile.

I've asked some professionals and got conflicting answers: uneven weft tension from row to row, so a fault from the loom. One said the foundation has slackened. One suggested the fringe finish is tighter than the weave, or the lack of an underlay. One claimed insects, which I don't buy.

A specialist in Iran called it a case for dār-keshi: clamp the rug under tension on the two sides without fringes, mist the back, leave it a day or two. I tried steaming the reverse through a damp cloth with weight on top and nothing changed.

Has anyone seen this pattern before?

i wove a little tie-on pocket with my handspun! on this shitty cardboard loom. it was a lot of fun and i'm already working on the next one, though using more pins instead of cuts this time. i really like the texture of my handspun wool. and now i can carry my phone when i wear a skirt. awesome.

Took a break from weaving last month and decided to ease back in with a plain weave project using gifted merino wool weft and local churro sheep warp. I also try hemstitching on this project —10/10 recommend!

Loom: Easy weaver

Completed is 9x88 inches at 12 epi and 10 ppi. Work in progress is 15 epi/ppi. Stickier than mohair… pretty finicky.

I have started designing and weaving a series of tapestries using my own Handspun alpaca wool, I was just hoping to get some advice on how to mount/frame them? Most importantly, how to do it on a budget. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!
