I don’t think a commissioner has the authority to pardon someone sentenced to death lol… now if the President was there, sure… but doesn’t that have to be written and signed?

I feel like if the president interrupts your execution moments before it's too late to turn back, you know, romcom protagonist style, that counts without a signature.

I can imagine a middle-aged man who has a habit of saying that whenever someone says “pardon me.” Maybe the prisoner overheard the executioner say “you’re pardoned” to someone and then got this idea
