Untreated mental illness on display.

A couple weeks ago there was a man in the grocery store parking lot having a manic episode of some sort.
But because the year is 2026, every single thing he was screaming about capitalism and the surveillance state was absolutely true rather than the paranoid delusions of a person with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder

u/SumpthingHappening 4h ago
I’ve just been sitting here staring at your comment and having feelings over the truth of it. :(

Depends on the conspiracy du jour.
In the 1990s, it was either government coming to get them, or aliens. Or both.
5
u/FussyBritchez 4h ago
I remember a wave of satanic ritual killings and a british politician sex scandal with many similarities in description of abuse and cover up reaching the highest levels of business and government. It’s the same stories over and over again. The names and places change, but not much else.
6
u/twilightmoons 4h ago
The Satanic Ritual Abuse was a staple of 1980s 700 Club, religious sermons, and talk shows. Also with the D&D scapegoating.
I was fine, I played AD&D Second Edition.
3
u/FussyBritchez 4h ago
It spilled into the early 90’s also, especially in pop culture. Don’t forget that darn heavy metal music 😂

Don’t forget about that sweet, sweet government program used on young children and the mentally impaired to allegedly turn them into designated marks upon receiving a signal (MK-Ultra). /S
7
u/witchgrid 4h ago
I mean, MK-ULTRA was unquestionably a real program. It wasn't effective in creating Manchurian candidates, but it did make the Unabomber.

The current situation in the US makes me also want to move to a tiny cabin in the wilderness and mail packages to people. Not dangerous ones, just dog turds or something like that.

Maybe it wasn't a manic episode at all. Maybe he's just really passionate about getting the truth of the state of our society out to the masses the only way he knows how.

When I donated plasma there was this guy who had a ten foot billboard with whatever his screed was strapped to the top of his car. He even wore pants and a jacket with the same stuff written all over them. How the hell he wasn't pulled over every time he turned his car on I don't know.
Also I dont know what the hell he was even trying to say. Something about Biden and Trump but they were both bad? I think

Mental Illness on public display. I'd argue it's bad enough they should probably be comitted.
12
u/EnoughOfTheFoolery 4h ago
That won’t happen and there is nowhere to put them. Regan signed into law as Gov of Calif a law to prevent indefinite, involuntary commitment which on the surface, was intended to stop a sketchy practice and he carried that tact into the White House. The consequence was the collapse of mental institutions. Now days it’s a revolving door of short term stays where those needing help do not get it and the cycle continues.
5
u/User5790 4h ago
The real tragedy wasn’t closing the asylums, it’s that the full plan wasn’t implemented. It included adding much more community level support for people experiencing mental illness to help keep them out of trouble. Then they cut all the funding for that part of it.

u/Specific_Pear_665 3h ago
So being committed doesn't actually do anything, there aren't apartments for the crazy to stay in for free. They just milk whatever insurance or Medicaid is available and then kick them out again.
-1
u/Embarrassed_Team7322 4h ago
If there’s no sign of harm to themselves or others, there’s no need to ‘commit’ someone
3
u/Chinaizazzhoe 4h ago
This is the reason why we keep having mass shootings. The signs are all there but “well they didn’t do anything *yet* so we’ll just let them roam around til they do”
7
u/Oryihn 4h ago
The department of pre-crime oracle has decided you will commit a crime at some point in the future.. You will be immediately arrested.. Enjoy your re-abilitation.

u/Huge-Name-1999 4h ago
You're making a joke but this is a really a thing. Its called predictive policing and citties started using it last year. A system of cameras (like flock) are run through an AI system that analyzes police records, a person's online history, ect ect. Then the AI produces a list of the people in a town or city that are most likely to commit a crime.
I was watching a video about this where a 16 year old kid had gotten some kind of trivial misdemeanor and for some reason the AI put him on the very top of a list that predicted the top 10 most likely people to commit a felony (i don't remember the actual crime he got charged with but it was something stupid). Anytime any crime happened in town the cops would show up at his house to question him and request to search his house even though this kid was at school all day and when he wasnt at school he was in his room playing Xbox. They would even show up when they weren't working a case, they would just turn up at his house and request to speak with him for no reason. Theres a whole compilation of them (im talking multiple squad cars, lights all flashing in their driveway) coming by multiple times per month for a year just to be like "whats up? Who you hanging out with these days? Have you been drinking or smoking weed? Can we come in?" Its bat shit insane
1
u/Chinaizazzhoe 4h ago edited 4h ago
Yeah but then there’s just actual human intuition. I had friends in high school who I just knew were going to do something messed up. And well they did. One died from an overdose after committing multiple felonies and one died from a police shooting in which he posted up on a highway and shot at cars with an AR15.
You can just see when someone is not going to follow the law and might be a dangerous person. That’s like the entire study of criminology.
I’m not talking an all seeing AI overlord, I’m talking gut instinct and common sense. Something we have apparently lost as a society. Like “that guy is a bad egg”.
Close knit communities and smaller towns know this pretty well. Like several indigenous communities just know who is going to be the one who broke into the store, clubbed the seal illegally on the beach, is drunk at the corner store, etc.
Big city people only hang around their tiny circle and barely know anyone and can’t actually identify what is and isn’t a threat.
1
u/Oryihn 4h ago
So you are cool with violating human rights because of "Intuition"?
Guilty until proven innocent kind of policing?1
u/Chinaizazzhoe 4h ago
Oh no. Of course not. You’re not guilty of any crime until you commit one. Idk what you’re trying to get at? You’ve changed the subject from going to a committed mental health facility to going to prison for a crime.
There are legit insane people who haven’t committed a crime but definitely do not need to be walking around with everyone else just waiting til they do.
You wanna live in a society where Kevin the lunatic that everyone knows is super dangerous but just hasn’t stabbed anyone yet gets to walk around til he destroys a family? Is that a measured and normal way to run a society?
1
u/Oryihn 3h ago
yes.. Because its a real slipperly slope to give the government the ability to detain people in a mental institution against their will based on Maybe..
All of a sudden every dissenter who posts they don't like X polical figure is unhinged and dangerous and needs to be institutionalized immediately.
1
u/Shamanjoe 4h ago
If there’s no sign of harm to themselves or others, there’s no
needlegal justification to ‘commit’ someone. There, fixed that for you.

It is a religious person trying to save sinners. What is so unusual?
1
u/ProfessionalRun3882 3h ago
The unusual part for me is that you can’t “save a sinner” because in almost, if not all religions, a person of “faith” can’t impose a rule or law on someone who doesn’t believe. In fact I believe it was Jesus who said “whoever among you without sin, cast the first stone” For me to impose my delusional frame work on anyone else would be the basic element of mental illness.
3
u/RageAgainstThePushen 4h ago
Messianic delusions are a pretty common expression of mental illness. Imagine you have been drilled full of deeply vague warning signs for the end times your entire life, then something pushes your pattern recognition into overdrive and you start seeing signs everywhere that no one else does. Some of y'all may find this person annoying, but they are doing something difficult and embarassing because they genuinely believe it to be the right thing to do.
There was a guy who used to wave a sign reading "JUDGEMENT COMING. RAPTURE SOON." across from the Kroger in Bellevue Tennessee every day. In the 8 years I lived there he had to replace that sign from sun damage 5 times with no rapture. He was a nice guy. Hope he's alright.

I love when they do the reverse in the episode where Homer and Apu travel to India to get his job back. The Krishnas get off the plane, and it’s all people dressed like Mormon missionaries, and they say under their breathes, “Oh great, Christians..”

They're predicting the end of the world as described in Revelations in the Bible. They're saying we are currently in the end times. This kind of thing tends to cycle in certain Christian groups because many of the supposed signs of the end times in Revelations are very vague--like "there will be wars and rumors of wars."

Schizophrenia has a weird way of showing itself. He thinks he’s saving the world. Would likely be good to have him try an antipsychotic but he likely wouldn’t have as much fun. Idk what you do with people like this other than show them a little love.

It looks like trash....so its probably treasure for those with eyes that see and ears that hear. We live in a hyper-materialistic consumer society and anything to do with spirituality tends to get lost on most materialistic consumers that only exist in the Physical Realm with no connection to the spiritual and the divine. This very well is most likely a mentally ill person but I would still want to talk to them and see what push them to do this and choose that location and the way they went about it there's typically reasons for stuff and being dismissive and writing everybody off as just crazy, and not hearing them out is kind of what's wrong with the world today. Even crazy people can be right.... being dismissive is one of Humanity's greatest flaws and it's how so many things get missed because somebody isn't the way we think they should be so we dismiss everything they have to say and that's kind of crazy in itself.... truly wise people will entertain even the crazy because if 1% of the stuff they say is true then you found truth it doesn't mean you have to believe everything they say but it's worth hearing people out sometimes. Especially if they are without doubt about something. And even if they are wrong about everything they might help you connect some dots that they didn't see. Interacting with humanity with an open mind is borderline magical the way ideas and Revelations happen it's not always so clear-cut how things get figured out but it happens from interacting with one another because alone none of us really have the whole picture we are all prisoners inside of our own flesh and can only see what we can see from our hyperlimited perspective and nothing else especially what others may see.
