Great to see odd squad mentioned in the big 2026

77

u/LordRT27 Apr 15 '26

Wait, that is what it is called in English? I have only ever known this show as "ett fall för KLURO", it is one of the only kid shows I actually really liked watching and can kinda remember.

55

u/Yummypizzaguy1 Apr 15 '26

How did the names work for you? Iirc everyone's name started with an "O" in the show cuz its the "O"dd Squad

33

u/LordRT27 Apr 15 '26

Now that you mention it, I do remember all names starting with "o", I do not however, remember the reasoning they gave, if they even gave any (I was pretty young when I last watched it). I just assumed it was a similar thing to why all names in Asterix and Obelix ended with -ix (I now also know that there was an actual reason for it, but I did not know that as a kid).

I know this answer might not be super insightful, but I sadly don't remember the reasoning if there ever was one given.

13

u/LightningFerret04 Apr 15 '26

They’re the Odd Squad so their names happen to all start with O, I don’t think there’s a reasoning for it other than that

One of the villain’s names is Todd, he was a former Odd Squad agent and so the only agent with a letter other than O being his first name

I think what the other commenter was asking was if there was a regional change to a different letter or if the character names were all still the same.

Agent Obfusco (strange guy with the cowboy hat and mustache who only speaks in incomprehensible riddles) would be an interesting character to translate. His name is derived from the word obfuscate which means to take something and make it difficult to understand

5

u/LordRT27 Apr 15 '26

I think I understood him right, I mostly meant that I don't know the reason there names would start with an o in Swedish, as the show is called "ett fall för KLURO", with the organisations name being "KLURO" and not "Odd squad", so it doesn't really make sense that all their names starting with an o in Swedish, but they still do, and I am not sure if a reason was ever given.

As for Agent Obfusco, I actually did look that up by finding the Swedish version of the episode literally called "Agent Obfusco" in English. In Swedish they actually renamed him to "Agent Obskyro" which would be derived from the word obskyr, which means, well, obscure.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '26

I think Todd has the best name because it’s just Odd but with a T in front.

Say you rather go strip mining than caving and you get comments that clearly do not understand at all that anyone would not be optimizing their resource gathering while increasing risks greatly, and then of course "you don't know how to play the game". While strip miners don't give a shit if someone else wants to go caving 10 seconds after first spawn on a new world. It is always the other way around, those who like the risks and like to do combat have less imagination and low empathy but also are the most judgmental when others don't like the things they love..

6

u/Nut_Butter_Fun Apr 15 '26

lol okay bro. obviously strip miners won't care what someone else is doing, because they just want the destination, when there's a lot of value in the game's journey. shit probably most of the value and experiences are to be had there. I can see why people think others are missing out. And it's okay to judge, but I'm not, and I doubt many others are, telling people they can't or are somehow wrong to play a different way.

I’ve tried playing without keep inventory as well as gravestone mods. I hate them all. If I have to play without keep inventory I am just not going to play at all.

604

u/Medicalpyro Apr 15 '26

I prefer keep inv but on servers gravestones will always be funny because I get to laugh at my friends while helping recover a grave from a lava lake in the nether

422

u/RandomRedditorEX Apr 15 '26

Once you play with a gravestone mod you'll realize how bullshit the vanilla death system is.

Like gravestone mods are the perfect mix between the keep inventory on and keep inventory off.

It helps that you don't have a strict timer and the amount of items you lose isn't rng related. Oh you died? tough luck shit ass your diamond sword just swerved into a diamond pit.

Once again modded Minecraft is better than vanilla

195

u/randomname560 OoOo BLUE Apr 15 '26

It's worth nothing that the keep inventory off system is not based on a timer that starts the second you die like many people seem to believe

Your items despawn after 5 minutes as long as the chunk is loaded, a.k.a, if you die 10 minutes away from your spawn, you still have a chance to get your items

92

u/pipnina Apr 15 '26

Things only happening if a chunk is loaded is one of my most hated Minecraft features.

It would be so trivial for the Devs to "fix" most of the bad or unusual outcomes of it too.

For one, if they wanted to make the item despawn consistent, they could timestamp the chunk when it unloads, and check the new time against that timestamp when it is loaded again.

Then for every: Baby animal Crop Dropped item

They could just use the "number of ticks since last loaded" number from the chunk unload time, and use a probability function to age up the right number of animals, grow the right amount of crop, despawn items dropped more than 5 mins ago etc.

To be fancier, it could be used to add new features, such as if a village has valid spare housing and can expand (i.e. the player built more, or villagers died when the player vi sited), then a similar probability function multiplied by time could be used to roughly "fast forward" the progress the village would have made without the player being tied to the radius of 12-16 chunks of it at all times.

It's always annoyed me that Minecraft basically forces you to stay near your home if you want home things to continue to work. This feature would make exploration with periodic returns to base much more enticing since you could breed your animals and plant your fields and then head off, and have mostly grown animals and mostly grown crops when you return instead of coming back to still tier 1 crops and baby animals after being gone for an hour.

37

u/FormalGas35 Apr 15 '26

i made a whole ass post about this lol, this is exactly what most games do

7

u/Professional-Bear250 Apr 15 '26

They keep trying to get players to explore, but then make it hard for them to explore without their farms basically shutting down. Even if Pistons stop working, you can come back, flip the piston on, and then still get a working farm.

u/diodosdszosxisdi Apr 15 '26

50

u/Starco2 Apr 15 '26

I like gravestone mods a lot because i think theyre the best middleground.

Keepinventory means theres practically no punishment for dying.

Normap settings means that dying can sometimes require hours of work to get back what was lost.

Gravestones still punish you for dying, but not by an absurd amount.

*this is not to say i think gravestones are objectively best lol. Play sandbox games with whatever is the most fun

7

u/mugiwara_no_Soissie Apr 16 '26

Yeah my only reason for playing keep inventory is just bullshit deaths.

I do like needing to backtrack to my loot in time, its just not fun when you fall in lava bc lag decided to ignore a block placement (hated this on Playstation lol).

Or when I was in the end, full diamond enchanted, had just found an elytra. Threw a pearl into the little portal to get back, and it just went through and teleported me to the side of another end island...

62

u/Cadunkus Apr 15 '26

Playing without some sort of inventory recovery is just playing on hardcore without the prestige because if you die and lose all your endgame gear, you just quit that world cause of how awful it is to grind it again.

14

u/walterfardwellwhite6 Apr 15 '26

u/Laetitian Apr 15 '26

The obvious solution here is not to carry your precious endgame gear to places where you won't be able to recover it - until you've crafted a second set.

You might not enjoy that way of playing cautiously, but then what's the point of death in your gameplay at all?

7

u/[deleted] Apr 15 '26

“Don’t bring your endgame gear to the endgame”

What? I mean most people are bringing their endgame gear.. to the endgame.. where it’s more punishing and a place where you’re likely to lose your stuff for good.

Then you have to grind for endgame gear all over again. Not fun imo

I think a good balance for Minecraft might be having you lose a portion of your experience on death but getting to keep your inventory, sort of like Terraria coins.

38

u/Smart-Ad57 Apr 15 '26

maybe they can copy Hytale where dying drop 30% of the inventory and tool durability

5

u/BlossomtheLeafeon Apr 15 '26

I remember playing a Minecraft mod pack like this, on death, keep everything, but lose a big chunk of tool durability

3

u/ReggieCorneus Apr 15 '26

All XP should be gone but your inventory should be either intact or stored somewhere. I would not mind a special kind of ender chest that you can't move or destroy at world spawn, as long as that gear can be retrieved. So, if you die and respawn without gear, destroy bed and die again. XP is all gone but you have your gear back and can travel safely.

It sucks SO bad to lose fully enchanted gear that i usually just start a new world, at least the early game has tons of progression happening and lots of rewards.

→ More replies (1)

17

u/Confident_Rod_9717 Apr 15 '26

As someone playing mediumcore on terraria right now. It really sucks. The devs know no one plays on it and don’t bother to balance the game with it in mind. I recently touched the bottom of the world (that kills you instantly now) and lost all my gear, and lost a lot of items that are now unobtainable

u/Himeto31 Apr 15 '26 edited Apr 15 '26

I'd say it's not really that comparable. In Terraria getting gear is often very grindy but usually one and done kind of deal, more akin to a permament upgrade. In Minecraft all tools are designed to be expendable, they will break sooner or later (excluding mending) but in exchange they are really easy to get back, to the point you could get diamond gear an hour into the game. Dropping loot on death is way more devastating in Terraria compared to MC.

27

u/LZHtel Apr 15 '26

Yeah but it still sucks balls

→ More replies (4)

17

u/pc_player_yt Kiryuin Ragyo from Kill la Kill can Kiru ra Ki-ruin me Apr 15 '26

Minecraft tools stopped being expendable when they introduced structure exclusive loot like Elytra as well as rare weapons like the Mace. Enchanting, especially Mending, is basically a given now for endgame gear since you absolutely do not want your grindy loot to break or go “Too expensive!”. The work that goes into making the perfect gear with Enchanted Books combination isn’t cheap either. Losing them in any way is extremely detrimental in the endgame. There’s a reason why Netherite tools don’t burn in lava, Mojang knows these things aren’t supposed to be easily expendable.

2

69

u/EldritchApple Apr 15 '26

I haven't played Minecraft in a while, nor have I used keep inventory. However dying and having your stuff despawn because you exploded 20k blocks away from home can completely ruin a play session and idk why ppl blame others for wanting to avoid that.

What a boring way to play. But to each their own

"what a boring way to play"

meanwhile me using keep inventory so I don't have to grind for hours all over again just to get my diamond armour/enchants back or spend an ungodly amount of time just walking to get out of a cave or to get back from a long expedition

besides most the time I get back to my stuff without it on its despawned or there's like 5 skeletons camping it because having mobs spawn constantly as long as its dark is good game design

I would rather not waste time backtracking/grinding to get stuff back when I could be building, progressing, farming, fishing ect

25

u/SadDairyProduct Apr 15 '26

I said to each their own, I find the grind fun. Gives me something to do.

I don't play Minecraft alone, I usually play when listening to an audiobook, so the grind is good

Go get your stuff back? What's the problem?

6

u/Wolveyplays07 I wish a femboy wolf would eat me and keep me inside him forever Apr 15 '26

Rebuild

5

u/MysticSkies Apr 15 '26

Walk back to your stuff? The fk kinda argument is this? And if you have a base already then you probably have extras lying around.

4

u/CleanSplit2 Apr 15 '26

Tbh if I die past the first 20 hours of a world I can usually just buy my gear back from villagers, and if I die later on there’s netherite and recovery compasses making it pretty safe to get items back. It’s pretty annoying to get new elytra, so I usually grab a spare or two while I still have the first pair. I know they nerfed raid farms, but there used to be a design that takes an hour max and those make you pretty much invincible too.

2

u/ookmedookers Apr 15 '26

Do you think people just stop playing their world if they lose their items?

15

u/Swinginthewolf Apr 15 '26

Those people would have an aneurism if they found out I swap to peaceful whenever I go mining or if I can't be bothered dealing with hostile mobs lmao

I'm literally playing a mod pack that has armour that makes me nigh on invincible but I still switch it to peaceful if I wanna leave some machines on or am trying to sort out some stuff and don't want to fend off husks and phantoms

15

u/Xenometan Apr 15 '26

I don't care what the community says, I am NOT letting an accidental death stop me from growing my factories!

5

u/nwash57 Apr 15 '26

For real I only play tech packs. I'm not about to accidentally let lava burn up potentially hours worth of work. I have a full time job I don't need to waste my free time recreating shit I already did

10

u/The_PillarMan Apr 15 '26

I notice that the loudest most obnoxious minecraft players are the ones who are trying to copy youtubers

Basically the ones who saw Dream SMP and wanted to copy it verbatim and as a result are so invested to try and protect the "minecraft speed run community" not realizing nobody gives a shit outside of their little circle.

u/halflivefish Apr 15 '26

Grind for hours/days to get good gear -> die in lava, lose all your tools and armor -> never play that world again

4

u/NeverSettle13 Apr 15 '26

Is there a mod where if you die, you leave like a ghost or zombie version of you in the place where you died, and if you kill it you will get all of your items back safely, like in Hollow Knight

7

u/zatenael Guys FTW! Apr 15 '26

gravestones, there are various kinds that do the same thing you're describing

18

u/Makine7 Apr 15 '26

You play minecraft however you want, but isn’t keep inventory in the « activate cheat » settings ? I’m not saying it’s bad or anything, I understand why people would use it, as long as you’re having fun it’s whatever, but let’s not say it isn’t a cheat.

12

u/TheForbidden6th yellow like an EPIC lemon Apr 15 '26

on Java it's classified as a game rule

9

u/zatenael Guys FTW! Apr 15 '26

only on bedrock iirc

2

u/VinylDjPon3 Apr 15 '26

This has always been my issue with this discourse and also isn't unique to MC.

YES it's cheating. But it doesn't matter if you cheat on a single player game. Games used to be purposely loaded with cheat codes just so you could mess around in them, these days people think it's some dirty word to take offense to.

keep inventory on, disable fire spread and disable mob griefing, I don't play to get stressed.

16

u/GLPereira Apr 15 '26

Mob griefing breaks some villager interactions though

2

u/0ctaver Apr 15 '26

I hate it, I wish there was two different gamerules so as to not break villagers interaction but remove creeper blowing up/ghast

3

u/ZKLaurin Apr 15 '26

Datapacks exist. Look up vanilla tweaks. You can just turn off enderman and creeper grief

Keep inventory is not cheating, it makes the game less stressfull

18

u/MR_Happy2008 [CENSORED BY THE BRITISH SECURITY SERVICE] Apr 15 '26

I personally dislike it and don't use it as for me losing your stuff Is part of the challenge of the game but I can understand why it exists and why people use ot

15

u/UltraTata Apr 15 '26

The reason why I use keep inventory is because it is picked up in a random way when I recover it which makes combat extremely difficult and annoying

5

u/MR_Happy2008 [CENSORED BY THE BRITISH SECURITY SERVICE] Apr 15 '26

Fairs but I like to have to go find my shit (and probably die 6 dies on the way)

3

u/cramburie Apr 15 '26

Out of the loop entirely, been playing off and on since beta, happened upon this thread because I was browsing r/all so this is the first I'm hearing about it.

I'd be in your boat. I've got nephews and nieces who play creative or do survival with passive mobs. I get the appeal but it's just, the friction is missing. The idea that I need to be careful, danger around every corner, that makes the game exciting for me even if I'm more mindful than danger being an issue for me.

Keep Inventory sounds like it'd be more of an annoying chore than a riveting life or death situation.

But Minecraft is all about building and that includes the experience one wants out of it.

4

u/ObscureConductor Apr 15 '26

as an older sibling, keep inventory is what i use when teaching my younger one to play minecraft.

3

u/Redray98 Apr 15 '26

The feeling of losing your stuff is soul crushing… I wanted consequences for my or (the lack there of )actions

2

u/diodosdszosxisdi Apr 15 '26

I'm in bedrock, and I hate that I lose pretty much all of my experience points if I die with out keep inventory. It's an annoying xp grind if you don't have bigger farms like endermen farms set up

3

u/ShiningTachyon Apr 15 '26

I'd play without Keep Inventory if my items didn't explode across a 5000000 block radius without any indication of where it is and despawn within 5 nano seconds

5

u/TubbyFatfrick Apr 15 '26

"NOOOOO YOU CAN'T PLAY THIS GAME OFFLINE, IN YOUR OWN WORLD, WITH CHEATS NOOOOOOOOOO, YOU HAVE TO PLAY IT UN ULTRA-HARDCORE MODE, WHERE JEB HIMSELF WILL MURDER YOU AND YOUR FAMILY IF YOU DIE, OR YOU'RE NOT PLAYING IT CORRECTLY >:((((((((((((("

-A caricature that I just made up and hyperbolized for the sake of "comedy" and, hopefully, doesn't actually exist.

3

Yeah I play with keep inventory + lava converts into source

3

u/pghburghian Apr 15 '26

After my kids cried hysterically when we were cornered by a creeper in a cave far from base and lost everything we were carrying, I decided that we're always playing with Keep Inventory on.

3

u/polishatomek sora ai survivor Apr 15 '26

Fr, my friends tell me to not turn keep inventory on, yet they ask me for creative every time they die in lava.

6

u/Jenneon_ Apr 15 '26

What I personally hate about playing without keepInventory is that it discourages exploration. I really like just traveling 1000s of blocks and explore/farm. But traveling those 1000s of blocks back without interacting with the environment is incredibly boring. So just kill yourself and respawn in your base

2

u/lololofkap Watch out, i graduated from Reddit university! Apr 15 '26

I mean, TECHNICALLY it is because in Minecraft pocket edition keep inventory is in the "cheating" menu and it disables the ability to obtain achievements in that Minecraft world whenever you turn it on

2

u/Stiftoad Apr 15 '26

We've had that debate when setting up our server because some people voiced that otherwise they may get frustrated and quit

Personally I'm of the opinion that should you get into a death loop unable to retrieve your stuff then you probably need to reevaluate your strategy beyond just hauling ass to where you died

We were playing modded already and one of them adds dragons which can and will murk your ass

Personally, I think the despawn mechanic is bull and I hate having f3 open all the time

So I suggested a compromise, using a graves mod

This worked but took some real convincing just to "give it a shot"

Because personally I tend to loose interest if there's no consequences to dying at all

In the end the best thing you can do is talk to people respectfully and things will work out

2

u/Low_Cat_6965 Apr 15 '26

I think gravestone mods are the best happy medium between keep inventory on and off

2

u/ZaoMenom Apr 15 '26

You could also just reduce this meme to “Minecraft mfs”

2

u/Popcorn57252 Apr 15 '26

To be fair, it has been in the cheats menu... literally forever. I use it regularly, mind you, but it is actually considered a cheat by the game itself

2

u/MysticSkies Apr 15 '26

It is a cheat, because it removes the risk/challenge of being careful while exploring. But if you wanna use it, you shouldn't get hate for it. Tombstone mod should always be Vanilla imo.

2

u/LordOmbro Apr 15 '26

Play however you want

That said, i started playing before keep inventory was a thing and i feel like it kinda detracts from the tension of exploring

My favourite middle ground is gravestones

2

u/Moonlit2000 Apr 15 '26

On the other hand I've seen modded players who in the name of "basic qol" get a mod for a minimap that shows the locations of mobs and items, a mod for free teleportation between points, a mod to instantly mine ore, and mod that quadruples their inventory space

2

u/TOTALOFZER0 Apr 15 '26

I think this started because on bedrock it is considered as much cheating as creative mode. You cannot get achievements with keep inventory on bedrock

2

u/namelesswhiteguy Apr 15 '26

It sure is cheating, but I beat the fuckin' Ender Dragon without it on back when I was 11.

I'm too old to give a shit anymore.

2

u/alexmehdi Apr 15 '26

Losing all my stuff makes me sad, so I turn on keep inventory :)

2

u/freakybird99 purpl Apr 15 '26

Its my fucking world. I play with keep inventory if i want to, i switch to spectator mode for screenshots if i want to and i will even xray for andesite if i want to. What are you gonna do about that huh

2

u/Much-Menu6030 ! CAUTION ! - User is a dumbass. Apr 15 '26

2

u/Wooden_Echidna1234 Apr 16 '26

To be fair thats all redditors especially with single player games. You go to a sub and mention you use mods to make it more fun or cut the grind then they lose their mind.

2

u/ComfortableSeat7399 Apr 18 '26

I used to be that way until I played terraria for the first time and tried keep inventory on that game and it just made sense, more fun
