Nah, this is niche. I'm been a casual Markiplier fan since like 2017? and I've never heard of this before. You're probably much deeper into Markiplier lore than you realize.
I'm casual Markiplier fan, I only occasionally watch his videos. Sometimes he makes videos with his mom though, and I find those more interesting/engaging than gaming as they're out of the norm. Hence medium ball

When people say "I'm [toponymic adjective]," they either mean their nationality or ethnic background. Markiplier is an American national and an ethnic Korean. "North Korean" is not an ethnic group, so it isn't accurate to call him that.
Some people are pretty obnoxious about it but thereās real merit for some. American was built by many different kinds of immigrants only a couple hundred years ago which means even as a āmelting potā weāre still pretty heterogenous people, culturally speaking.
We donāt really view American as an ethnicity. āAmericanāisnāt an option to check off on any form asking about it either. You get asked āwhite, Hispanic, African, etcā. If your coworker asked what your ethnicity was and you said āAmericanā youād get strange looks. When you answer with something else, say Chinese for example, thereās a silent understanding that it doesnāt automatically mean youāre from China. Usually right after then come some friendly follow up questions like if youāve ever been to China and so forth to see how far the heritage goes back

I knew she was Korean but always assumed she was South Korean because they have family there, like while filming Iron Lung Mark had to fly to South Korea to attend to his grandma's funeral. This is really wild...
They did flee to avoid the draft, but the way the events are framed make it seem like after the fighting had broken out and the UN coalition had intervened, as when they get to Paju it's under South Korean control without mention of its capture during the initial North Korean offensive.
I wouldn't say zero experience. He's had quite a bit of acting with his interactive videos such as In Space With Markiplier. Of course filming an entire movie with a 3 million dollar budget is a big step up, but it's not like he went in completely new to it.
Like it is different but have you seen the cinematography in some of the highproduction videos alot of that is transferable skill, it is by no means a just succeeding at everything there is a clear line of growth and refinement of craft
Space with Markiplier is pretty high concept and ambitious for YouTube too, no only being a choose your own adventure but one with a ton of unique combos and all with just Mark? Pretty unique for YouTube if you ask me.
Also he was born at Tripler Army Medical Center. I was reading the reviews of the hospital prior to going there as I was having a mental breakdown after work and saw that someone mentioned it there and thought that was pretty neat :D
Yes and its a big deal in the furry world. Its older than Mark's career even, and Tom used to promote Mark on his webcomic's page when he was starting out

Most people are just aware of him as a big Internet personality and havenāt actually watched him much. They wouldnāt have heard the times he talks about it.
You can watch most of his videos and never find out. He doesn't talk about personal life much when playing games. You have to watch outside content like interview or his podcast to know Mark lore.

Never really heard of him outside of watching iron lung. Now I feel like I see him everywhere... World is huge and people have lots of interests and limited time.
Probably not a furry but everything involving Unus Annus specks paragraphs about him... I actually vaguely remember Ethan glueing chica's fur on him though so maybe a yes to that furry line.
Honestly, the thought that Mark and Tom's lives could have turned out very differently is food for thought. That also makes me wonder if fnaf would have been as popular without one of youtubes up and coming stars playing it.
As of late? His webcomic, TwoKinds, started when Tom Brady had played three seasons of football and Lionel Messi hadn't played yet. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King wasn't out yet, and the US had just invaded Iraq.
I think Tom/TwoKinds was already somewhat popular around 2007ish. You can find "Today I learned Tom is Markiplier's brother" posts from more than a decade ago.
It's definitely got bigger over time, though. I thought Tom didn't consider himself a furry, he's just... a professional, lifelong furry artist. (I mean, the Patreon pays the bills.)
I knew it was known about decades ago, but afaik it only became well known information around 2017 or 2018. If you asked a 2015 mark fan if they knew about it, then chances are they probably wouldn't have.
Also yeah he doesn't personally identify as furry, but he does make furry art. Maybe I should've clarified that.
It really does make it seem like a North Koreans capablity to grow in an Artistic sense is boundless but that's like because it's a 1 of 1. There's not really anyone else to compare it to
