The Malcom in the Middle reboot was really bad with this. It ended up just making the fandom make fun of them. Literally the first scene of them was Hal not knowing which pronouns to use in a sentence
Nah the reboot is really fun, and very much feels like the series. People are overstating massively how much attention is place on Kelly being non-binary. It's specifically acknowledged twice in the whole thing and then they are treated like any other character and have a great rivalry storyline with Reese.
This might be a personal thing, but i think there's a really funny lost joke that could have happened where the family that tried so hard for a girl ended up having their last kid be a trans man. And he's exactly as rambunctious as the others.
I think that is the intention tbh. It is that they tried to get a girl, and god said: "Most I can do is non-binary", but not in a cruel way.
Also, the pronouns scene is there to show how much Hal cares about her them being comfortable.
It's 4 episodes of fan service. Not great, not terrible. My partner was passed at it because in 20 years no one experienced any character growth behind the scenes. They were all exactly the same, just 20 years older.
Would you really describe Frieza as NB outside of the bit? He's pretty exclusively referred to as "Prince", "Emperor", "Lord", and other numerous male titles, and refers to himself exclusively as a man.
The Frieza Race is a genderless species. They just more closely resemble what humanity associates with masculinity, so that's treated as the "default" for how they're referred to.
I mean technically that wouldn't make frieza non binary just sexless(lmao)/genderless cuz he presents and prefers being treated as a man so if we go with that logic he would be a trans man

Frieza uses gender neutral pronouns to refer to themself. Im not familiar enough with Japanese and japans LGBT culture to know if "Watashi" is common amongst people in general or if there is some cultural NB recognition.
I don't know all of the Japanese first person pronouns but the ones I do know are "Atashi" (feminine) "Watashi" (gender neutral and most common) "Boku" (masculine usually used by teenage boys) and lastly "Ore" (masculine usually used by adult men)
Alternatively making them aggressively non-binary by dyeing their hair, making them have every piercing under the sun and scream at everyone for not getting pronouns right
When starfield came out this guy was playing it for the first time on stream I think and when he saw that you could choose your character pronouns on the character creation he had a complete meltdown lol, the most iconic part is him screaming PRONOUNS!!!! Flare is nonbinary, Albrecht and Loid are in a gay relationship, every member of the Hex you can romance will date any drifter, and Eleanor even specifically talks about how her first crush was on another girl in one of her KIM chats alongside wanting to be married to a man later on, so even if the rest of the Hex dating any drifter is just for the sake of gameplay Eleanor at least is canonically bi.
Best of all, they have my favorite trans character in all of video gaming in it (Ticker is best girl) and she has the honor of posessing the single hardest line of dialogue in the entire game (and yes I am including all of Cy's dialogue in that metric):

Funny thing is now that I think about it, Flare also has this issue to a lesser degree. While Flare themselves is introduced as just standard non-binary, they do later fuse with Lizzie and Helminth to become Temple, and on the way there Lizzie convinces them that they want to be a part of the bigger whole, essentially implying they’re not non-binary in the literally not identifying with any gender specifically way but in the “wanting to be part of eldritch hivemind consciousness” way
The protoframes explicitly don't lose themselves when their transformations are complete. The "being part of the greater whole" that Lizzie talks about isn't about becoming one with the helminth hivemind, it's about fulfilling their purpose by travelling to the future and playing their role in the fall of the Orokin empire. They're still themselves and that's why Temple in the first place is such an important piece in the empire's destruction; their inherently chaotic nature. It's got nothing to do with them losing their individuality.

It's more subtle but realistic. Zooble is I think only ever referred to as "they" by the other cast members, and in Jax' mind doors he mentions having to be a bit "gender freaky" with Zooble gone. Plus the tie-in to those two things being the talk about body dysmorphia with Caine in the "therapy session"
Tbh all bad examples in this thread stem from people not familiar with enbies irl writing what they think what enbie is, while Zooble is like clearly Goose has talked to a non-binary person (which makes sense, considering she's trans)

I do appreciate the recent efforts poured into making medias more inclusive, and we certainly had proof that a product can be inclusive while retaining quality and inner consistency (Arcane, Baldur's Gate, Deltarune...).
But it is so unbearably obvious that some products (mostly soulless big corp ones) were written and thought in a certain way before passing through the company's gayfication dept, which looked at the script and said "not enough minorities, add genderslop", giving rise to the cringiest interactions, dialogues and character designs. It's annoying that these prods still manage to stir so much debate, proving the corps right
I mean sometimes it seems like that's what it takes these days. And even then there'd still be someone trying to argue that people are just reading too much into it.
Character design is a little forced, involvement in the episode feels forced. Really gets you to sympethize with how confused Steven was in the episode

Gears have genders, Sol, Aria(?), Dizzy, Dr. Paradigm(?), Justice(And by technicality Sin and Ky but they're only partial Gears) are all either male or female identifying

A lot of writers either go too sci-fi with it or they view it like political lesbianism, where people pretend to have a different gender for some ideological reason, which isn't true at all. Idk why it's so hard to tet right
