Yep. But the mainstream media will talk about it as though this should somehow reflect badly on all us queers. And they will repeat it enough that it seems logical to the most checked out people you know.

Yeah, but it has a certain essence to how is bad. Example, high guardian space. That shit was woke, and that shit was bad. One of the worst pilots ever, png type of bad. But this lesbian space thing, this feels unnatural. Gives the same sensation as when the pedophile pride flag was circulating around as a way to make people say "see, this is what gays want the world to be".
410
u/Alternative-Owl-6272 9d ago
I heard it was kinda transphobic, but idk.
478
u/NotQuiteLoona 9d ago edited 9d ago
It was. I'll just cite the plot section of the Wikipedia article.
[Saira's] labrys, a symbol of lesbian power.
The pair then travel to meet a drag queen named Blade, [who] tries to steal Saira's labrys, but is stopped when Willow and Saira fight back and decapitate her.
Also note that by lore the magnet for which this labrys is to be stolen by Maliens seemingly attracts women. So, a drag queen wants to steal lesbianism to attract women to herself... Yeah, I see what did they mean, even if technically drag queens aren't trans women.
Edit: added correction of which magnet, because some people thought I've thought it's Blade's magnet (which is, like, irrelevant? I've said what it means just to add context). Also it was most likely unplanned, a strange coincidence, see thread below.

u/Embarrassed-Yard-583 9d ago
And trans men to them are women so traumatized by patriarchy that they “pretend” to be men to survive.
It’s TERF bullshit all around.
19
58
u/Peeper_Collective 9d ago

I think this is probably a case of some poor coincidences honestly. I saw the film with a Q&A featuring the writer/directors and several members of the cast. Multiple times a few of them pointed out how important they felt having trans women in the cast was. They spoke very passionately about queer representation and liberation (making specific references to the oppression of trans folks) too. Additionally, one of the writer/directors uses she/they pronouns (while this doesn't automatically make transphobia, or transmisogyny, a moot point, I'd say it helps a small bit.)
15
u/NotQuiteLoona 9d ago
Yeah, thinking now from what other people said it probably is a poor coincidence.
6
u/MapleApple00 9d ago
yeah, having watched it it’s not actively malicious it’s just like a mediocre movie with writing that’s handled in a way that leads to REALLY unfortunate implications
25
u/Marco_Tanooky Bucket 9d ago
Ok I just watched the movie, this is a BOLD faced lie
The magnet that attracts women was created by the Straight White Maliens, it is literally a chic magnet because they're chuds who think they deserve women, Blade did not create the magnet, and he serves a different point in the movie
Are you lying on purpose to create a misinformation campaign and a narrative against the movie, or is this just borderline-malicious incompetence
3
u/Clear-Lingonberry173 8d ago
Generally speaking, people talking about this movie have not watched the movie. If you watch the movie, it becomes clear that it's not a psy-op or particularly problematic. It's just a movie full of problematic characters that some find uncomfortable since they mirror our own flaws.
23
u/ChloeB42 9d ago
But there's also a trans woman, voiced by a notable trans woman, who also wields the labrys and the creators, one of whom uses she/they pronouns, explicitly stated in a podcast leading up to the release that they wanted to reclaim it and it wasn't intended to be terf-y. I think they botched the execution, but I don't think they intended it to be read that way.
Like idk, I actually really like the labrys and don't want TERFs to be allowed to claim it as their own, when it's a bad ass symbol.
30
u/glassocto 9d ago
I mean I think a drag queen could just happen to be the villain and not for pushing transphobia because the voice actor of one of Mcs parents is a trans woman. Like not to say they can't have internalized stuff to work through but I feel like they wouldn't hire a trans woman to be a queen of a lesbian planet if they were transphobic.
28
u/SnowyGyro 9d ago
The character voiced by a trans woman is a trans woman. The clue is that her magically summoned labrys has the trans colors.

A Labrys is a magical axe that Saira can summon to prove she has reached adulthood, but she can only manifest when she feels confident. Since Blade is a knife collector, this means that Blade has to help Saira overcome her anxiety around her domineering parents are tense realtionships with other chatacters in order to manifest it so she can steal it.
Blade wants to steal it because she likes knives, and the stealing therov.
A Labry's is a magical artefact that can be used as a battery for the magnet that the Straight While Maliens have created.
Just in case you were actually curious.

i mean... drag queens, are men, that's kinda one of the defining traits of a drag queen. i'm barely following this because if the drag queen is trans... and a drag queen... i think that's more a slight against drag queens then trans people.
but man wants to attract woman... lesbian has magical thing to attract women. man want thing that attracts women.
is it good writing... i dunno. seems weirdly convoluted or very shallow... at the same time.
I'm barely following this whole thing... this movie or show sounds like something you'd see in GTA or Cyberpunk... which i'm all for in that context. but unless i hear it's good, i'm not going to really look at this I saw the trailer and there was like one character I even vaguely was interested in was the green haired like new girlfriend(?) to the main character.

Because the CIA/Mossad/etc., are responsible for literally everything that goes wrong in the world. It's simply not possible that a piece of media is poorly made, or that people can be stupid or have bad intentions as individuals--no, it has to be a massive conspiracy; that's the only reasonable explanation, and the truly enlightened geniuses of social media can see that clearly.

The outrage seems very performative. I think people see the title and just think it sounds pandering. It's not like gay characters are particularly rare nowadays. No matter how bad the film is, it's not worth going out of your way to hate on it. Quite frankly, I doubt even a tenth of the haters have even seen it.
Can't wait for the video essays explaining why LSP is the worst film ever and a crime against cinema that are longer than the actual film itself.

First rule of internet is your side will never ever in the wrong and if anyone from your side ever did something horrible, it must be "Psyop", "Wumao", "Russian Bot", "Glowie", "Industry Plant" and "Sleeper Agent"
But if the other side did anything horrible and stupid, it's must be 100% genuine idiocy and any reasoning should be thrown out of the window because they're Moronic troglodyte not worthy of human conversation.

Couldn’t find anything about a show. It’s a movie from last year. I don’t think anybody saw it, it just has a satirical title that people took seriously. I wouldn’t call it a psy-op, more like mass psychosis. Ngl I thought it was about She-Ra, a show that ended 6 years ago, that’s the only space lesbian princess show I can think of.
Supposedly this none Netflix movie somehow got some Netflix shows cancelled. People are mad because they think the juvenile adult humor movie cancelled the other juvenile adult humor show. Also because of the straight forward title, because that’s how they see all shows with queer elements, just the Lesbian Space Princess show.
It’s really just nothing. The real show was the theatre people built around it, they just needed something to blame for shows being cancelled. It’s like the greeks prosecuting a statue for murder because it fell on someone. You just don’t know what to say, like “damn that’s how your mind works huh?”

u/senator_based 9d ago
