I find this funny because I'm in an ad break in the middle of rewatching Jessica Jones rn

u/PremSinha 16h ago
We're seriously back to cable TV, huh?
15
u/PG2904 16h ago
Nah, Disney+ just has ads.
26
u/PremSinha 16h ago
I know you were watching on Disney+
I was referring to how all these streaming platforms ultimately ended up with ads after selling themselves as the premium ad-free experience to replace cable TV.

So yeah, for context:
I'm a pretty quiet guy at work, and one of my co-workers has a cousin who's into a lot of the same stuff as me, so he thought he'd connect me with her, which I mean, I thought that was a little weird, but its not a very professional workplace and I'm lonely af so I thought what the heck lol
Anywho, I go ahead and start chatting with this person, nice girl it seems, makes cool art, I also make cool art, we have a lot of stuff in common; everything seems nice.
HOWEVER, she asked me a bit about my hobbies, and one of the things I mentioned was that I'm a magician, and that caught her attention, she asked if I was at (insert halloween event) of 2024, and I was like, OMG wtf, yes I was there!
Turns out, she was directly in front of me in line, and she was carrying an adorable little bunny, and keep in mind, we have literally never met since or before then, and my coworker has literally no idea about this even at all, he just thought we'd match.
But anyway, I think that's super cool, and I ask if she's up to see a movie or whatever, and she says yes, and she also says to wait a sec, she has a photo, and I'm like, what? :D
So she sends me 2-3 photos of myself from 2 years ago at that event (or at least of my back), I had literally 0 idea I was ever recorded there at all, let alone by that cool person, and I think that's just kind of odd.
I was literally performing magic tricks and taking photos with other people, I would've absolutely took one, but having someone have an image of myself I didn't consent to or know about is kind of weird.
ESPECIALLY, since this exact thing happened at a convention a while back, a girl I did magic tricks too was especially appreciative, and acted kinda weird, but its a convention, you don't attract the most social people lol.
But at the convention later, I sit down, and this girl comes in front of me, with her phone's camera pointed directly at me, as if recording, and I thought that was kind of weird, but I'm probably imaging it. I smile at her, and she immediately leaves, and comes up TO THE SIDE OF ME, 30 seconds later, again camera pointed directly at me, not doing anything else.
Tf
Literally I took a photo of everyone with a costume, like I am not against photos at all, and if you like me, JUST ASK ME FOR MY NUMBER PLEASE, I'M SO DANG LONELY, but anyway, uh, I thought that was kind of weird, I don't know man, maybe I'm just crazy lol.

I've been making mostly animations recently, crappy and numerous, because if you're not good at something, just do it a lot more than anyone else to compensate.

Are you gonna give her a shot or is she just too weird
145
u/DrStufoo 19h ago
Yeah I took her to see brand new day, movie was awesome I haven't been to one in ages, but she like didn't say anything. Like I tried to start 7 conversations and she always responded with single word sentences. I don't even know this person's name. like literally I know nothing at all.
But she yaps af on snap, but I don't really feel it, I'm a frankly very talkative person, I adapted to her for the date because I don't wanna talk to someone who doesn't want to, but like, I can't do that for a lover I don't think
181
u/Natural_Trip3855 19h ago
Sounds like she's just really nervous in person, I can relate, maybe give it a little bit of time for her to become comfortable.
29
u/zehnodan 12h ago
Yeah, I would say since she keeps trying to engage that she's interested. But doesn't know how to deal with real people.
119
u/gerryford38 19h ago
Movie dates arenât the best for talking tbf. The whole point is being in the cinema where thereâs no speaking allowed
37
u/DrStufoo 19h ago
yeah I was gonna take her to do some table top pool, but she really didn't seem even a little interested, and I didn't want to push her if either she didn't like me, or was nervous, either way it seemed crummy to go further
the movie was at least good!
9
u/MrThrowaway939 11h ago
How is she with going on walks and shit? For first dates that tends to be my MO, you walk around your town/city for a bit just sorta wondering, makes talking easier because you dont have to look each other in the eyes. Go into whatever shops take your fancy and look around. You can buy her something if you have the money or not if you're poor.
4
u/MaleierMafketel 10h ago
Not a bad first date idea, but maybe she shot it down because she thinks sheâll be no good at pool.
Maybe suggest a coffee date, or a walk through a busy park on a nice day with lunch?
Something low stakes where you have time and space to try and connect and talk.
21
u/NoTransition8295 19h ago
It might be something worth asking her before you stop pursuing the relationship, since i can't speak for her but I'm personally quite bad at talking (as in bad at properly conversating, I can speak fine) when in person when I don't know people too well (I'm still kind of bad at it with friends too), the best way to get me to properly talk a lot is if I'm comfortable and talking about something I care about, so if you did feel like you liked her it could he a good idea to talk about that kind of thing with her not talking much during that one date, find out if maybe she's just shy or wasn't in a properly comfortable environment to open up or if you just needed some proper topic to get her to start talking and then she would maybe open up properly when talking in general
6
u/DrStufoo 18h ago
Oh I get that totally!
Its just not what I'm looking for in a partner, not my cuppa tea3
u/NoTransition8295 18h ago
Yeah that does make sense, i just wanted to make sure to mention that sometimes it can take time to get people to properly open up (like myself), if you are sure that she's not what you're looking for then that makes complete sense, but if you're still trying to decide it might be a good idea to ask why she wasn't very talkative on your date so you'll know for sure that maybe thats just how she is in person and she isn't what you're looking for or if she does just have issues opening up in person and then decide if it would be worth taking the time to try to help her open up so you can see how she really is or if it wouldn't be for you (which of course makes perfect sense, I'm not trying to sound like I'm judging or anything which I want to make clear)
5
u/TheWiseKeyes2 15h ago
Wait you took her to the movies and you still don't know her name?
1
u/DrStufoo 14h ago
Yeah she said like NOTHING. I met up, said hi, tries to start like 8 conversations, she just responded with single word sentences. My coworker gave me her snap, but I never asked for her name directly, I assumed we'd get to talking and such but eh, the movie was nice
6
u/Gambitam mantis shrimp adorer 19h ago
Can't say I haven't been there. Usually if she's shy there might be something that'll get her to talk, something she really likes. I'd tell you to either find out or ask a friend of hers for advice, but I believe you don't know any?
2
u/SarcasmSanctioned 16h ago
Sounds like she may have Autism, to me. I'm much the same.
Far less talkative in person than on the internet, but if I do start talking, I'll yap your ear off and go on multiple tangents.
Then again, could be something else. I dunno.
1
u/PrinceCavendish 14h ago
i'm just like this. super nervous around people but after a little while i become very comfortable and never shut the fuck up. i feel more comfortable talking through s messenger than in person with new people. if you like her and she seems ok through text give her a little time to warm up to you.
104
u/Natural_Trip3855 20h ago
Wait I'm confused, she just has photos of your back? Still saved 2 years later? I can understand if it was a photo of something else and you just happened to be in frame but if not that's pretty damn weird idk
I'm also lonely as fuck so I'd probably just brush it off and keep talking lol
119
u/Dominator0211 20h ago
Apple has the smart photos thing so if she has an iPhone she could just type like Halloween 2024 or magician and it would immediately bring them up. Itâs not necessarily creepy that she never deleted 2 random photos from an event years ago.
64
u/DrStufoo 19h ago
yeah that's what I'm saying!
She pulled it up in like a minute, of just my back, smiling and talking to someone. Like that's a memory I don't even remember this stranger has lolI actually did keep talking and take her on a date, but that's for another time lol, turns out loneliness is actually radical
31
u/Th3biass 19h ago
If you had the date is pretty easy to find photos in your phone. Before mine broke last week i had saved all the photos i took from 2018 onwards, including selfies some friends took that i didn't notice where there until at least 2 years later, it may be the same case for her. Why she took a photo of you, thats another topic, she could have sent you a zoomed in part of another photo, or could have taken a pic at the long line, or she could had another reason, who knows.
16
u/DrStufoo 18h ago
yeah no I asked her about it, she literally said she just thought i looked kind of cute in a weird way and so took photos.
like you can just ASK FOR MY NUMBER, PLEASE AGH
17
2
u/Th3biass 17h ago
Then that looks to me like you have a chance if you want to go for it, doesn't look like she's going to take the first step, wheter you stay as friends, something less or something more, i can only wish you luck whatever it is that you choose. But don't wait for something that might not come, move yourself. There isn't right or wrong answers for this type of thing, be cautious, be safe.
3
u/suriam321 13h ago
Eh, I have images from 10 years ago on my phone. If it a memory of a fun event, why delete it?
10
u/YOUTUBEFREEKYOYO 18h ago
Ive had a situation in the same vein haha.
Exactly and I just started dating, and we were both telling funny/embarrassing stories. Im telling one of how it's was standing outside a dollar tree and probably looked like shit (i was sick, getting some cheap cough drops and crackers because I was broke) when some guy in a mini fan yells out the window at me "THAT GUY LOOKD LIKE A PORN STAR!"
My ex then looked shocked, and says "that was youâ˝" so as it turns out, she was helping her mother and father get some groceries, and her dad wanted to embarass her lmao.

u/envycreat1on 17h ago
I wouldnât really think too much of it unless these are blatant photos of yourself. I coincidentally began dating my best friendâs cousin who I had never met. I found out they were related when I saw a picture on her motherâs facebook of them at a family Thanksgiving at said friendâs house. The friend and my now wife lived in completely different cities and the chances were staggeringly low, but here we are.
1
u/DrStufoo 16h ago
no its like, literally I'm the center of it, I'm talking to one of my family members completely oblivious lol, she literally confessed she took photos cuz she thought i was cute, but you know, didn't tell me or ask

u/PlasmaGuy500 yellow like an EPIC banana 16h ago
Im a little confused are you at least interested in her whether it be friends or more because to me this feels like her being extremely awkward and trying her best to interact with you since shes probably as socially awkward as you (probably idk you obviously)

I thought this was gonna go in a more creepy direction like the time I had a girl I didnât know remind me about my step brothers I never talk about to anyone when I said I just had sisters.
1
u/PremSinha 16h ago
one of my co-workers has a cousin who's into a lot of the same stuff as me, so he thought he'd connect me with her, which I mean, I thought that was a little weird
Why? What is so weird about that? That seems like a pretty natural way to meet people.
1
u/DrStufoo 16h ago
It's a professional workplace environment??
1
u/PremSinha 15h ago
You said that. Could you elaborate on why you think this is weird for a professional workplace environment?
0
u/Unbuckled__Spaghetti 13h ago
This is actually way less creepy than I thought it would be, itâs not that weird to take pictures of someone doing something cool (magic), and with how our phones work itâs super easy to find photos. Just search âHalloweenâ or âmagicianâ and itâll pull up related photos. I think you might be thinking further into this than you should.
1
u/DrStufoo 5h ago
Nah it's not while I was doing magic, that'd be totally normal, I was just standing around, talking to a buddy, and she snapped a few photos while my back was turned, she literally said she did it since she thought I was attractive, its pretty creepy

I went to a convention and this girl took a pic of me in my costume.
2 years later we meet again under different circumstances and quickly find out we already met and she still had the picture
1
u/DrStufoo 18h ago
Thats actually really cool!
When I go to conventions, I take selfies with EVERY costume I see, I have like a folder of each convention, I usually get literally everyone there lol, dozens and dozens of people, its so cool to meet fellas with nice costumes, JUST ASK FOR PERMISSION FIRST PLEASE

this is actually a bizarre almost impossible set of circumstances.
Basically she just took photos of me behind my back, and I never saw her again, but her COUSIN (who is my coworker and had no idea she ever met me) thought he'd connect me with her, since we both like drawing and stuff, and we only saw each other in the first place since we were next in line at a halloween event with like a thousand people.
genuinely impossible at every turn, but nature has a way
3
u/E-2theRescue 14h ago
Lol. Had the same. We were apparently at the same Halloween party with a mutual friend, and she was right in front of me in a group photo.
She also apparently had a huge crush on me years before... when I didn't even know that she existed, even though we went to the same schools and I had classes with her sister... Lol.
And kind of related, but I met my fiance in Las Vegas. Turns out we went to the same elementary school in Washington for a couple of years. She moved a few cities away after her parents got their own house. It's neat that I kept my yearbooks and she's able to see her kindergarten and first grade photos a few pages away from mine (4th and 5th). But... my ex is in there, too, so...
4
u/SillyMovie13 12h ago
No shit, same thing happened with me before. We were somewhat in the same friend group but never really interacted or were even around each other. Then we started to get to know each other and it turns out she had a small collection of photos of me. It was weird. We dated for about a year
2
u/Azero957 20h ago
What do you mean first time that's the real questionÂ
1
u/DrStufoo 19h ago
i had no idea i knew this girl, a co-worker told me I should talk to his cousin, who's not very social, so I was like sure, I'm lonely af, and turns out after a while of talking we met 1 single time in line for a halloween event in 2024 XD

u/tatrielle 18h ago
Each time was when you were doing a trick? So what if theyâre taking a pic of your as a magician and trying to get the âtrickâ?
Another theory is what if youâre really attractive and girls want your picture?
2
u/DrStufoo 18h ago
I wouldn't say so, but she said I was cute in a weird sort of way, which i mean, thanks?
Also, still I dont take photos of pretty girls without their consent it's pretty weird imo!
3
u/tatrielle 17h ago
You probably attracted weird girls lol but girls do like guys in costumes and it is a public event with you as a performer. So usually people do take photos or videos. Does it feel like that?
2
u/thyboss7 17h ago
Hey do you have a source for this gif? I want to use it but I canât find the original anywhere (I checked like 4 different gif sites for it and no dice)
2
u/DrStufoo 16h ago
its crodds, obviously, I had to screen record a scene of it from youtube, crop it, edit it, then add my own text and white space and border from scratch
you can download the image, and just wipe the text off and overlay the secondary text, but its gonna be a small amount of work

u/Valdoris 20h ago
So the thing that shock you is people recording you as you do magic trick publicly?
I mean, if you're doing any kind of performance today it's expected to see AT LEAST a few phones recording
3
u/DrStufoo 19h ago
Not at all the context hah!
I was doing magic tricks here and there, but I wasn't like a performance or anything, we were literally waiting in line. At the time, I wasn't doing any magic tricks, I was just standing around, and the photos were taken from behind, where I couldn't see her.
While street performing people record acts all the time, and even try to play it back to see how I do the tricks(which NEVER works lol) and I love it, its really nice to be a part of someone's life and make them smile for a sec, and maybe get a selfie or something, but that's WHEN I'm doing magic and walking up to people, not just standing around minding my own business
In retrospect, strangers have more photos of me than I have of me lol
