I’m a trans girl and I misgender myself sometimes. When you’ve been thinking as someone or even yourself, as one thing for so long, it’s hard for your subconscious to adjust, it’s perfectly normal and nothing to feel guilty over

u/iahim87 3h ago

Throw a fit of fiery rage every single time you misgender yourself

Works for me with anything really

I like how if this wasn't a sea creature this would be considered insane gore but because it's a sea creature it's funny to look at apparently

Same with stomping insects. The less something looks like a human, the less we'll be disturbed by something happening to it.

30

u/MaeBeaInTheWoods 2h ago

I've seen people on this website brag about doing things to bugs that would probably you tried for war crimes if done to a human.

13

u/Atlas_of_history Official Ralsei 1h ago

I've seen people justify and brag about ripping mosquito's limbs off one by one

I get they are annoying as shit, but you can just stomp on them, you don't need to justify literal torture

But like. Wasps. Violating the geneva convention on wasps is acceptable, encouraged even.

Dude oh my god you sound just like me

We ALL have intrusive and bad thoughts when we have ocd, it’s literally a hiccup in our brain that makes us think things we don’t want to think? AND YA KNOW WHAT? We MOVE ON. We just let the thoughts have no control over us. You think the bad thought, you remind yourself that that isn’t who you are, and you move on.

-2

u/[deleted] 2h ago

I have to remember that bad thought so I would remember that I'm a bed person

6

u/General-Biscuits 2h ago

Overthinking =/= more empathy or care

It’s self-sabotage born from insecurities.

It will often take away from your ability to care for people in the way they want or need you too. So, for the sake of those you care about, stop overthinking things in your head.

Talk about your thoughts with people to get them unstuck from your head. Whatever the issue, you will quickly see the problem never was that serious or complicated as your brain made it out to be.

1

u/Legendarien1 2h ago

Most people have bad thoughts sometimes. I catch myself being racist or sexist or transphobic, usually just in thoughts but sometimes stress makes things come out in ways you didn’t intend.

The mark of a good person is the ability to recognize what you’ve done and correct it. You’re already doing a good job, and destroying yourself for it only hurts you.

Just think of yourself as someone close to you that you care about. If that person said something bad like that, then recognized what they said was wrong and apologized, would you forgive them? Give yourself the same grace

1

u/[deleted] 2h ago

I don't have someone close to me. Also I would but the same doesn't apply to me. I have a tendency to repeat the same old mistake over and over even if I feel guilty whenever I do it

5

u/vitro06 3h ago

cuz you're, beating yourself over subconscious thoughs is blaming yourself for things you never really said or did

7

u/Connect_Ocelot_1599 3h ago

It's always okay to fuck anything up like this

3

u/AgonyOverdrive 3h ago

I'm trans and if you misgendered me I wouldn't want you to feel guilty about it. It's perfectly fine to simply correct the mistake and move on.

6

u/FriendlyHoovie 1h ago

u/THE_250th_AMERICAN LIVE FREE OR DIE 3h ago

Is misgendering that bad?

29

u/Silver-Marzipan7220 local athiest trans girlie 3h ago

Depends. Its like farting. If you do it on accident and apologise, no one will bat an eye. If you do it constantly, but apologise, people will think there is something wrong with you. If you do it in a person's face without apologising, people will think you are a hostile maniac.

2

u/Atherach 1h ago

"Misgendering is like farting" that's certanly an analogy

30

u/Information-leak6575 SCP fangirl who gets mad when you misrepresent it 3h ago

depends on the person

doing it on accident is usually not that bad

5

u/wild_vika purpl 2h ago

do you even have to ask?

3

u/Magehunter_Skassi 3h ago

Most people would prefer for you to just not acknowledge the mistake and instead move on with the conversation. It's a minor faux pas that gets weirder when stopping to apologize

4

u/BuyFeeling6787 3h ago

Yes

5

u/GleamGal8765 3h ago

For a second i thought that I was in a trans subreddit and was wonderimg how tf would people downvote you haha

3

u/No_Payment9959 3h ago

As an autistic person, I get the intrusive thoughts. Zazen meditation - as much of a slog as it is - really helped me realize that I am not my thoughts and that thoughts just happen whether I want them to or not. It took I don't know how many hours of sitting in mental agony and forcing myself to focus only on my breath just to get to the point I'm at now, but I'd say it was worth it.

3

u/Tsunamicat108 3h ago

i keep doing this for an enby friend and i hate it

3

u/Scout-gaming_ 2h ago

Thought crime ain’t real bud. As long as you’re trying your best you’re ok

3

u/Mechromancer3X 1h ago

My gfs best friend is enby(they/them) and my fuck ass brain keeps saying "she" every time i mention or think about them. It makes me so fucking mad at myself because I know how much misgendering hurts. It literally makes me so fucking mad at myself but I cant get my brain to stop doing it😭😭

10

u/Weirdguy1257 3h ago

It canNOT be that serious

2

u/psp24 57m ago

It's not, people who act like the post can be just as annoying as transphobes. The right thing to do is just apologize if you say it out loud and move on. No different than accidentally misgendering a cis person.

0

u/[deleted] 3h ago

for me it is

I'm sorry for making you argue with me

4

u/Weirdguy1257 3h ago

It’s ok man. If you feel this bad about it, you’ll probably feel just as regretful if you ever say it out loud. And if your friend is someone you’ve judged well enough to be your friend, they’ll understand that you didn’t mean it. It really doesn’t sound like anyone would do harm here.

Misgender terminator apocalypse

1

u/nathanpete 3h ago

I thought I spotted one of my high school friends from 7 years earlier at a park. I was going to approach them and say hi when I realized they weren't my friend, because my friend had approached me a year earlier at Pride, were trans now, and an absolute baddie.

I have seen them a few times since and have made a huge effort to seperate the two memories, since they are practically two different people, one was really depressed and troubled guy, and the other is a cheerful and very optimistic queen.

1

u/HeroBoy05 the girl with the unfortunately outdated username 3h ago

Sometimes I spend 30+ minutes trying to make sure my phone’s ringer is on before I go to sleep. I had a single instance in the past where I missed a class because my phone being on silent made my alarm not go off

Every time I think it’s on, my brain just tells me “no it’s not on, it’s on silent. Fix it. Fix it. Fix it fix it fix it fixitfixitfixitfixitfixit.” And then I’m back to the same loop

1

u/pekstonaltyk when the FRAUD /// THIRD // DISINTEGRATION LOOP 3h ago

Yk at some point i misgendered everyone I know accidentally, mostly me for some reason

1

u/Max_G-Bloody_Emperor [REDACTED] 3h ago

I used to misgender myself but in the other way around. I'm currently transfem, but before I realized I sometimes referred to myself by feminine pronouns then fixed it to masculine ones. Now I just use feminine.

1

u/Petiteythewriter 3h ago

I don't know if this will help, but a way to deal with these train of thoughts is think about it in reverse and ask yourself if the reversed scenario would be just as bad.

If you always gender them correctly in your head, but have bad intention and always misgender them in real life, in person, what would that mean? That would be horrid, yeah? like on a 1-10 moral scale that would be like an 8 (very bad.) So, if that's bad, then the opposite (this situation) would be a 2, not really bad.

This logic also apply to other things. For example, feeling bad that you stick to your diet during the holidays even though you kept a 100 days streak of perfect eating? Just imagine you overeating for a 100 days and only stick to your diet during the holidays. Would that be equally as bad? Does that makes sense?

Like, between thoughts and actions, you must remember that actions will be more impactful. Remember and be kind to yourself gang.💜

Me when I accidentally misgender my enby ex partner in my own head while thinking about how manipulative they were to me and how better off I am without them

I'm trans myself now and I know it's not that big a deal if it's just in my head but it still gets me lol

1

u/wookiee-nutsack I trap ants in my foreskin and start pissing 3h ago

I, on the other hand, am quite surprised by how quickly my brain adapts to automatically using the right pronouns for all friends

In speech I make a mental effort to remind myself not to slip up but in text I manage just fine

Even mire surprising knowing my language does not have gendered pronouns so I'm not used to it due to not speaking english as often as native

1

u/BrazilBazil 2h ago

The difference maker for me is if someone corrects themselves. Like when someone uses a masculine form and then goes „shit, sorry, I meant
” and then uses the feminine form, it’s fine.

Some people just say „sorry” but that’s not enough.

And then there’s people whom I asked directly to stop misgendering me and they still do it

wut ocd gotta do wit dis

4

u/Mac-And-Cheesy-43 3h ago

The main symptom of OCD is spending way too much time and energy on intrusive thoughts like these.

1

u/Denelix skibitye 3h ago

I have it, diagnosed my mom passed it to me. But i feel like this happens to everyone.

0

u/[deleted] 3h ago

When you don't have therapist for 2 years but you have bite marks on your hand beacuse you would bite yourself very hard sometimes

You go desperate

0

u/Denelix skibitye 3h ago

Idk. I guess ur ocd is different from mine? I thought ocd was doing basically “rituals” that ur brain needs to do or else it bothers you until it happens. Mine is where i need my body to feel the same as my other. So if i blow a bit on my right hand my left feels not as blown on so i slightly blow on my left hand until it feels equal as my right. Or if i pass a tree and blink my left eye did not get to experience that blinking while passing that exact tree so i need to do it on my left eye too while also passing the tree or a very similar one.

I thought stuff like that was ocd since my mom’s is very similar.

1

u/[deleted] 2h ago

I'm sorry

Now I'm feeling guilty because I'm faking OCD

I should just isolate myself as I did once already, it did help last time, or I think so

Their triggers are NOT your problem.

This applies to everyone. Don't beat yourself up if your not trying to be an asshole.

Edit: OP is alone. And yes, forcing your views on others IS an asshole thing to do. You're not wrong. Wanting to be called one thing or another in the company of someone else is one thing. But pitching a bitch fit because someone didn't THINK of you how you wanted to be thought of. Jesus fuck that's daff.

No victim, No crime. No thought police. We have enough issues with our existence thanks.
