India has climbed from 81st in 2015 to 38th in 2025 in the Global Innovation Index (GII) — an improvement of 43 positions in a decade.

The improvement has been consistent, with India reaching the top 40 globally in recent years.

WIPO also ranks India #1 in Central and Southern Asia and #1 among lower-middle-income economies in the 2025 index.
