I've been borrowing a stikine for the last few months and I really want to have my own paddle.

My options, as I see them, are to buy this one from my friend, or find another used paddle. I have small hands and I think the small shaft would be more comfortable -- but I haven't had a chance to paddle with one.

Any insight out there from small-handed paddlers?

Vacation (2015)

Considering a move to Vancouver WA. Mostly a Class II and III kayaker here. How would you describe the access to whitewater in Vancouver and the whitewater boater community in this area?

I am currently residing in Bellingham and have found it difficult to meet other whitewater kayakers who are more at my level, down to go paddling. Thank you!

Pulled a non-commercial permit for rafting the Grand Canyon next year and getting logistics organized. We will be hiring 18' boats and associated equipment through an established outfitter.

The outfitter's policy is that we are liable for the repair/replacement cost of any lost/damaged gear. If it's e.g. a cooler or an oar, then fine. But if the worst happens and e.g. a boat is damaged or lost, that could end obviously end up being quite expensive.

Has anyone sought/found insurance cover for such eventualities? Travel insurance appears not to cover it, at least judging by the policies I've looked at so far (Travelex, Detour, World Nomads). Or is this simply a risk that can't be mitigated? Thanks.

Hey guys, i have some kayaks, and i just got a new waka which I love a lot, and I’m storing them for the first time in the northeast, can i leave them standing up vertically rn, and during winter put them on their sides in the garage ? Or should i take different measures ?

What do the Payette runs look like post summer dam release? Ive seen footage of staircase and main down to about 800cfs, and they look a bit bony, but also wondering about the canyon and cabarton.

Not a local so I only know the main, but would expect less pushy flows and some scraping around, but still doable and a bit easier even. Not sure if some of the runs are just a no-go due to low water blues or if major hazards come into play at the low levels.

Hi! I have an old palm stikine that needs to be repaired at the zipper but the rest as been repaired no leaks and barely been worn so no sign of delamination.
I am wondering if i should not repair it and invest in a new suit but my options are limited. I am a rafting guide so my 2 choices would be an nrs axiom or a kokatat meridian. Ir is out of the question because juste the shipping is about 350$. I have heard rhat nrs suits tend to fail very often and that kokatat is not what it used to be. I am now wondering of its worth investing in a new suit or should i just repair the one i currently have. It would suck buying a new suit and having it fail early on when I could’ve just repaired my previous suit and having last the same amount of time for less money

I'm looking to purchase my first playboat and was looking for a bit of direction. I'm 6 3, 265lbs and have knee issues. I've tried the helectron but it felt like the hips are far too tight. Thinking of going in the Jackson route, but I wanted to see what y'all have experienced as good or bad at this point. I don't have a crazy budget, so something I can find used and in good shape would be nice...

I’m looking for a drysuit for whitewater packrafting in Europe. So far, I’ve mostly gone solo and stuck to Class III rivers, though I wouldn't rule out moving up to Class IV.

After looking around, I’ve narrowed it down to three models (all with neoprene neck seals and latex wrist seals):

1. Sandiline Advanced (€589): Aesthetically my favorite; it weighs around 2kg and features a double-layer neoprene neck seal.

   1. Hiko Valkyrie (€595): The best suited for packrafting, though I think it might perform slightly less well in whitewater. It weighs only 1kg. I usually travel by bike, so I don't think a 1kg difference matters much. Is there a difference in terms of comfort?

2. Hiko Odin (€550, 2kg): I included this one because I found it on sale. It might be a bit overkill for what I’ll be doing, but it should be the best suit of the lot. Downside: I only found it in all-black, and since I often go solo, high visibility would probably be better.

Since I use a self-bailing packraft, I wouldn't make use of the double-tunnel waist system. Does it make sense to buy a suit that has one? Does anyone have any advice or personal experiences to share? Thanks in advance

Honestly I don’t know if I did it right at all lol the videos I’ve seen of people doing it it always looked like a cartwheel over a drop so I just tried double pumping right at the edge. It felt like I landed flat but my skirt imploded almost right away hahah so I’m not sure, but it was fun! Anyone got any tips on how to speed up the rotation or if double pumping is even the right way to go about it?

Been wanting to get into it for a while, i work in saluda and spend a lot of time hiking along the green river with the dog. Was tempted to buy a cheap kayak and hike it in to a couple cool spots and just trial by error it. Much appreciated for any suggestions
