Mike Tyson after badly underestimating outsider Buster Douglas and not training properly for the match. Douglas would become the first to defeat Tyson at a professional fight.

Corner didn't even have a swelling iron. They used a glo e with ice I think. That eye is swelled up bad.

What is a swelling iron? Obviously reduces swelling, but do you keep it hot or cold?

Douglas was also inspired by his mother recently dying. Great drama with a shocking ending.

The ref unknowingly helped by doing a slow count on a knock downed Douglas.

yeah if you compare the counts they received, Buster's count was much slower, and if he'd gone the same speed with Tyson, he wouldn't have lost- but weirdly, counts aren't done with any sort of watch it's just the ref's choice as to how fast to go, which is kind of odd

According to the ref, in an interview much later after the fight, he thought that Douglas was not getting up.

Where did he say that? It´s pretty obvious that Buster could have gotten up faster. Tyson was totally out of it. Tyson´s trainer had to explain that he´d lost. Octavio Meyrán always defended his count and on his twitter he says he gave them the same count. He said Buster won fair and square. He made a post where he explained that he was being forced to say he made a mistake at the time, so that the boxing federations would have ammo to strip Buster´s win and keep Tyson as champion, so that Tyson could get the next scheduled lucrative fight with Holyfield. Don King was behind that. He also said King basically ended his career since he would not participate in the fraud against Buster.

Can’t remember which magazine I read it as it was ages ago. It surely wasn’t Ring or SI since at that time I didn’t have access to them.

yeah I love boxing but corruption has always been an issue and I'm sure that having the count not be set in stone certainly benefits certain scenarios

Tyson still knocked out Buster Douglas in the 8th round, and should’ve won the bout. The controversial knockout count lasted 14 seconds instead of 10 seconds rule. Video analysis proves it.
