Honoring old beliefs is one thing.

Performing nonsense actions that do nothing simply because your ancestors did them and claimed they worked is intentionally regressive and anti-thetical to learning.

And that's why we should ban Christmas. /s

A statement that applies to every church and religion.

Your whataboutism means nothing, neither should performed at a school.

That's exactly what I implied, calm down.

I would take this over hugging my teacher or standing in a line waiting for an awkward high five.

Wow. How socially stunted are you? Can't even do a quick huh or high-five?

No I just don’t want strangers touching me

You’re not even the person who was asked. Pretty sure you are socially stunted.

Bro, having social boundaries is not "stunted" if anything the ability to express a dislike of being touched shows a great depth of social understanding that it is necessary to express that outwardly or some people may feel entitled to walk up and hug someone without asking.

You don't celebrate any holidays, or birthdays, nor acknowledge the new year?

or you just being a hypocrite because it's a native American/ first nation's tradition? 😉

as an atheist, this is a weird agenda you're pushing.

edit: or, to say that differently, you've never taken such a stand against mall Santas. right? right.

Um, it's nice. Students probably know they don't have to do it. And for some it's probably a warmth or highlight of their day they don't get elsewhere.

You ever been a kid and dreaded going to school? Sure, this won't solve every kids dread - maybe not one student's at all. But these kids seem to be excited they get to do it.

Isn’t that what the concept of ‘traditions’ is?

Curious what your thoughts on prayer are...

Like Catholics smudging their foreheads on Ash Wednesday? This is an inter-tribal private school

Just because your soul died doesn't mean mine did. Keep it to yourself bigot.

I know right? I went to a kid's birthday party the other day and when they started singing happy birthday I was like WTF WHY ARE WE PERFORMING THIS NONSENSE ACTION??? and then when the kid made a wish and blew out the candle I lost it, I was like THIS DOES NOTHING. I can't believe people are ok with their kids being this regressive and unlearned. SICKENING.

That didn’t do what you think it did.

It did lmao

I kind of used to think that. Now I see it as just another positive vibes or thinking grounding action. It's little different than a high five or something else that is meant to be a nod and connection, support that says it is okay to be happy and want to get something good out of the day. Cynicism is necessary to prevent many ills, but if we are all too cool for everything that's also horribly regressive for society long term. Kids need to be presented with hopefulness as long as possible, and trusted to evaluate the difference between a ritual and science. My kid will do better long term being excited to learn, than becoming a hater at 8 years old
