Just finished reading the series for the first time. Not the prequel novels yet, those are next, but the 1990s 'original' saga, The Last Wish through to Lady of the Lake (no one asked, but: pretty good series, liked the last book in particular, thought Time of Contempt dragged and that Ciri goes through a bit too much 90s 'not your father's fantasy genre' abuse, but I loved the character work, Justice for the Rescue Ciri Gang)

Anyways: like everyone else who came into the series primarily knowing the games (I played 1 and 2, a chunk of 3, and decided I really needed to read the books to understand 3 better, Geralt is 'the two swords' guy: Witchers carry two swords at all times, steel for men, silver for monsters. Except, as book readers know, Geralt doesn't just walk around with that silver sword, he stores it on his horse, but it got me wondering in the original saga how often that silver sword actually shows up.

By my count the silver sword makes an appearance in three of the short stories in The Last Wish (The Witcher, The Grain of Truth, and The Last Wish), and is also in the framing story (The Voice of Reason). Geralt also wields the sword in Something More in Sword of Destiny. Silver swords are referenced as a way to fight several monsters during Ciri's lessons in Chapter 3 in Blood of Elves, but I don't think past that point silver swords are even mentioned again. Geralt get the sihil from Zohan in Blood Baptism, and uses that more-or-less exclusively until the end of Lady of the Lake: if he even has a silver sword on him at the start of Blood, he doubtless loses it along with one of the Roaches in his many tribulations and not only never regains it but never has a chance to do so (I imagine it's an expensive pain). A quick words search of Storms and Ravens shows the silver swords show up those two, which I won't treat as a spoiler because of course they do, buts its the 90s saga that interests me.

Am I off in my calculations? Does Geralt not wield a silver sword in any of the original Blood-to-Lake novels? Did I miss something somewhere? His medallion is silver, and his armor silver-studded (and there's bewitching silver eyes), but I didn't see a silver sword show up again in any form after Ciri's lessons. Anyone know if I got that right?

Zastanawiam się, czy klątwa Jaskra może być powiązana z Panem Lustrem. A jeśli tak, to czy CD Projekt nie nawiąże do tego w fabule Ciri w Wiedźminie 4? W końcu zwiastun gry zawierał frazę „przeznaczenia nie da się zmienić”. Szczerze mówiąc, podoba mi się ten pomysł.

I was averaging like 4-5k damage with aard and piercing cold mutation

And with magic sensibility i was averaging 1-2dmg with an explosive quen and even a 3-4k with aard when it crits

Now its so stupidly nerfed or glitched with the mutations quen literally does 40 dmg, 40 DMG and aard on both is so broken with the mutation piercing cold aard either do literally 200 damage if shockwave is equipped or just barly a 1070k and if not

With magic sensibility its worst quen do 80-40 damage aard do less damage the more the enemies is lower health i am talking 209dmg barely

The thing is everything was fine suddenly while i am playing this happened in a spawn of 2min

My guess is the do JUST dmg based on enemies health other than that I don’t have a fkn idea

Cuz the ai told to do a lot of things for an HOUR straight and nothing works

On one hand I am kinda sad that I know what happens with " Urcheon" and Pavetta when it would have been a wild twist to find out everything later, it did provide a very entertaining to slowly piece together what exactly this story was before finally getting the "oh shit" moment when Gearlt says Pavette's child will be tied to him by destiny. Perhaps not the experience tge author intended by a highly entertaining one nevertheless. Loving the book so far BTW, it us really clear CDPR didn't have to change much to make these stories work in game form.

It is a good year to be a Witcher fan ! Few months ago Sapkowski announced that new stories in The Witcher universe will be written, now CD Projekt RED confirmed a free remaster for previous Witcher 3 game owners and a new DLC to come.

I know Andrzej Sapkowski had some issues with CD Projekt Red in the past, and a lot of fans were angry because he basically brush off the impact from the games entirely on global scale, as if it was not part of the legacy of the Witcher at any point (basically saying that the success of The Witcher worldwide was entirely thanks to him and the games played no part in it).

But he is the man that started all. And in recent interviews, he seemed a lot more nuance now about his view on media adaptations of The Witcher (games and shows). As a fan that was introduced to the franchise thanks to the games (mainly The Witcher 3), I wonder what is his relationship with CD Projekt nowadays ?

My ultimate fantasy would've been that Sapkowski can have the same relationship with CD Projekt RED than let's say Dmitri Gloukhovski, the author of Metro 2033, have with 4A Games. It is notoriously known that Gloukhovski participates in the games creation in his universe. He also launched in 2022 the Metro 2033 project, where fans around the world can contribute to the canon of the saga by writing books on their owns in the Metro universe at the conditions they follow strict guidelines on copyrights and all.

Any chance that this kind of things can ever happens someday for The Witcher ? If it ever happens, what would you want to see canonize or tales to be told on The Witcher universe ?

Ps : I didn't talk much about the Netflix Show because I personally think it is doodoo.

I may be the greatest The Witcher fan in the entire history of The Witcher, since i've played and one hundred percented every game in the series thus far, and just to put this into context, i'm a guy, and this has absolutely nothing to do with Geralt or even the obvious presence of strong supporting femail characters, as i am completely ok with this approach as this closely follows the direction of the books that preceded the games. It does (on the other hand) have everything to do with forcing me to play as something i'm not. I don't need to play as Geralt, i just need to play as a male character, representory of myself. And it's not just The Witcher, we can also use Lara Croft, or Senua, or even Hazel Flood from South Of Midnight as examples (like when a game puts you in the roll of a furry) of an industry's collective "fuck you." And now (moving forward) CD Project Red (rather than being grateful) has decided to give me the big middle finger (for some reason) and telling me - "Hey, guess what, Fuck You, because now we're going to force you to play as a woman. So get out your dress and high heels honey, cause we're going out on the town."

Do you consider and choose the "A Road with No Return" short story or the comic version to be the better one for the lore and continuity? The short story leaves on a positive note but also leaves us with untold history and events and unanswered questions. Perhaps it's best for the story to stay vague and mysterious, like "something more" in Geralt's and Visenna's interaction. On the other hand, the comic version provides more closure and understanding for us, in contrast to Geralt. Or what do you think?

Pleasant surprise upon opening for the first time even though I’ve had it since October (brought it to a punk festival in London but was so busy I barely got time to sleep and eat let alone chill and read). The maps that are fan made are always cool to get a vague idea and AS tends to say they’re close enough but it’s cool to actually have one in the book for reference!

Just finished Season Of Storms after stalling because I didn’t want it to end because I don’t do well with finality. I bought the series a few years ago after season 2 and 3 being an absolute trainwreck, and once I got to the tsunami I was overwhelmed with excitement and dread and put it down for a year and several months.

Hopefully I don’t come to a grinding halt when I reach the last few pages on this one, because as soon as I heard about the translation releasing I got proper giddy and preordered it, only now I’ve gotten around to finishing SoS🙄 woulda hauled ass if I knew this was the first page! Very keen to do a reread of everything now I’m on the last one (or first one? Technically?) so the finality of things won’t be so bittersweet I guess.
