Discord Unleashed

Hey folks, it has been sometime since the official r/worldjerking discord vanished. Something happened with the moderator in charge of it, they ended up deleting the discord, and we've been trying (procrastinating) to replace it ever since.

I've just officially been put in charge of recreating the discord executively, meaning I get to make all the decisions (ya).

I've decided to rapidly put out this steaming pile of a discord, and will be working on it as it is used and improved.

Ya'll folks are welcome to give suggestions to me in the #meta channel.

Hfy writing is genuine trash

The typical hfy story is literally:

'Advanced alien species encounters modern day humanity and is UTTERLY SHOCKED at the concept of gun. The VERY IDEA of literal basic physics and the basic concept of the most simple of weapons to a HYPER ADVANCED SPACE FARING INTERSTELLAR POWER is so beyond the pale that a bunch of humans with literal basic handguns is just able to completely repel an invasion from the HYPER ADVANCED INTERSTELLAR POWER'

And thats only a partial exaggeration really. A fucking post on worldbuliding literally went 'aliens COULDNT HAVE POSSIBLY thought of using nuclear energy for weaponry and get bodied' which, putting aside the utter brainless logic, even if they didn't have nuclear weapons, a simple fucking rod launched at earth at mach-go-to-hell would replicate the destructive power of a nuke and be easily done if the species aren't morons (every hfy writer HAS to write the absolute dumbest most moronic fucking alien species known to man because if they wrote a alien species with a modicum of intellect their entire story collapses)

The second kind of hfy story is 'humanity's strength is our unity and will power and our diversity of thought!'

Look inside:

Repackaged western exceptionalism, as in spite if depicting a 'united humanity that includes every culture on earth' ALL of the humans are suspiciously coded to be hoity toity white people with American (or British if the writer is feeling Very spicy) mannerisms and culture.

I fucking hate hfy writing couldnt you tell?

How would you deal maximum psychic damage to an HFY worldbuilder?

(Context: The Pesenese are four-legged arthropods who have, on several occasions, forcibly spread getting along with others to numerous neighboring star systems. They saw an episode of Cosmos once and decided Carl Sagan was a prophet.)

Hey guys, what pen and paper do you like for worldbuilding?

I'm trying to get into worldbuilding but not sure how. I heard that some people like to just "write their ideas down". What's your favorite pen and paper for writing stuff? I've spent the last several weeks researching different products but I'm stuck. Comment with what you use so I can ask ChatGPT to choose for me.

Also, if I write my ideas down on paper, how do I prevent the ideas gnomes from stealing them while I'm sleeping?

Rate my 40K-inspired world where society is utterly and happily dependant on a singular technology despite it being widely known as a domain of liars, propagandists, ransom-takers, thieves and other hazards

Is it too unrealistic for my superhero team to fight off this intergalactic invasion force?

Upvotes

An alien empire who controls the entire Andromeda Galaxy is invading Earth. And they know Earth has multiple armed forces as well as several superpowered protectors.

So I am thinking this massive interstellar empire attacks Earth by sending over SEVENTEEN foot soldiers to one building in one city. And each one of these foot soldiers will be armed with an ADVANCED PLASMA rifle capable of shooting bolts of Plasma at OVER SEVENTY MILES PER HOUR, and they can fire over EIGHT TIMES A MINUTE.

Oh yeah also one of my superheroes only uses guns so the alien footsoldiers won't be bulletproof. Oh and one si a human martial artist so they won't be kickproof either.

A supergiant star collapses on top of your world's Capital City(s), what will the outcome be?

It collapses, releasing a supernova and gamma ray burst at point-blank range, leaving a neutron star in its wake.

Do they have any defenses? Would they win? If not, are they stupid?

The Ways to Control a Mecha Spectrum, where's your setting?

Post image
106 Upvotes

It's either Magic (straightforward making it up, risks looking like an asspull)

Tank/Airplane (overcomplicated for aesthetics and making pilots look cool)

Neural (same as Magic but scientific and you'll need to explain why their brains don't get fried up or they look superhuman)

or something that is in-between two or three of them.

Game controllers is out of the spectrum because it's so simple, straightforward and makes logical sense.

BFS stands for Beauty, Fortitude, and Size. Each aspect is scored out of 5 stars maximum by averaging its characteristics.

Beauty: Symmetry, horn curvature

Fortitude: Horn triangularity, horn thickness, body thickness, thorax thickness

Size: Body length, horn length, body width, horn width

Top 7 Male Titles

- Pulchra — Beauty

- Fortis — Fortitude

- Magnus — Size

- Virtus — Beauty + Fortitude

- Speciosus — Beauty + Size

- Grandis — Fortitude + Size

- Dominus — Beauty + Fortitude + Size; best overall

Secundus

Males with good BFS scores but not enough for the Top 7 receive the closest title followed by S, meaning Secundus, e.g. Magnus S.

Infirmus

For males with potentially good genetics whose appearance was affected by failed emergence, developmental, or environmental problems, making their traits unreliable to judge.

Culpa

Males that don't meet the required standard are named Culpa A, Culpa B, Culpa C, etc. Culpa A is the lowest-ranked; later letters represent better Culpa beetles. They may be sold cheaply, given away, or kept, but generally aren't bred.

Generations & Pedigree

A later beetle receiving the same title uses Roman numerals:

Magnus → Magnus II → Magnus III → Magnus IV

For bred beetles, a suffix records the father's identifier and sex:

- Son = male offspring

- d = female offspring/daughter

Example:

Magnus II Msson means the beetle is the second beetle named Magnus, while Msson records its paternal lineage.

The structure is:

[Title] [Roman numeral if applicable] [Paternal suffix]

Purchased Beetles

Bought beetles are named according to their BFS results and receive SB as their last initials.

Examples: Magnus SB, Fortis SB, Dominus SB.

Female Naming

A complete female naming system has not been created yet. Females can have individual names and pedigree codes but currently have no equivalent BFS title system.

How to fix icky wish-fulfilment tripe

I only read second-rate isekai manga (which I assure you, I do NOT enjoy) and boy howdy do I absolutely HATE IT when authors portray women as sex objects who exist as trophies for the the sole reason of validating the MC's fragile ego.

Oh god I hate the awful sexist ugly entitled loser MEN who shit out and gobble up these potboilers so bad, I want them to get prostate cancer and die alone screaming in the middle of a national painkiller shortage, oh fuck I hate them so so much. Now you're saying, I should probably read better stories that give their characters interiority that aren't cranked out for a cheap buck. Well I say NO because really need to show these losers their place.

I don't care if I'm being a dick. They are obviously awful, horrible people anyways if they ever found the need to consume this slop. Escapism? What are THEY escaping from, huh? Accountability? Responsibility? The fact life won't hand them everything for free?

That's why I'm going to write one where I'M the overpowered hero and I get to beat their precious generic self-insert up. I'll spend at least nine paragraphs per chapter going on about what a loser he is, down to his penis size and acne. You see, I won't be the one saying this, mainly because if I want to judge a man I'd have to prove I'm better than him so I will do a clever trick without having to put myself in the line of fire. Trust me, it works every time. To make it REALLY sting I will make it come from the girl he likes the most.

All the girls in his harem see how much of a nice guy I am and leave them for me while calling them pathetic little creeps. Then I'll walk away with them and they'll all tell me how I'm so much nicer and more respectful than those misogynistic stooges. And since I'm such a nice guy who believes the right things, all the hot chicks will naturally agree with everything I say so I can treat everyone else (especially MEN ugh!!!) however I like. Nobody normal will disagree with me because the harem (who by now have voluntarily associated themselves with yours truly) they will cheer me on and tell me I'm right.

In the World of Wheat, there are five kinds of race-I mean wheat, and they are called wheat, spelt, emmer, einkorn, and barley (honorary wheat). These wheats have inherent characteristics that determine their personalities, culture, morality, etc.

For example, the spelt has a curse that causes them to rarely give birth to male spelt, so they invade migrate to Northern Wheatland to breed with the wheat, which causes problems like violence and mongrel wheat.

...No, I'm not dewheatizing spelt, why do you ask?

How to go FTL while not going FTL?

So yeah, I've been building this Sci-Fi world for a century now but want to smooth some things over before finalizing.

The rules I've set for myself:

  • No Magic Gravity (whatever the fuck that is)
  • No Inertial dampeners (because it's #realistic to get turned into chunky marinara upon arrival)
  • Respect the Speed of light (so no FTL is possible because this is #realistic)
  • Any and all of the above rules can be broken but it has to be justified (as opposed to all other stories/worlds ever)

So my solution here is to ignore all of my rules immediately and just use subspace as a stand-in for normal space with the convenience of there being a higher-than-lightspeed limit to travel. Aliens use this because it makes sense and definitely doesn't break any of the self-imposed rules. It's also more #tactical. Also they need bio-ships because subspace has the munchies for steel.

Another method is a reskin of the alcubierre drive highly unique and #original concept which can fold space by magic gravity to enable FTL travel without breaking the rule for respecting the speed of light. It lets you jump from star to star like in Spore or Stellaris, making it more #strategic. Humans use this because we're just cooler like that.

Now I want to find ways for humans and aliens to use eachother's no-FTL FTL methods, despite establishing that neither side could/would ever want to do so because they think their method is better.
