Here's the thing: if Ukraine actually had the upper hand, why would anyone tip off Russia and give them a way out? Makes no sense whatsoever.

Well they did say that the secondary message was to tell them to stop helping Iran. Maybe that was really the primary objective.

He's not there to "tip off Russia". He's there to pressure Russia into ending the conflict.

Russia already knows things are bad on the ground.
