Afghanistan didn't make life genuinely hard for US citizens, and 500k+ Americans didn't get turned into fucking tomato paste even after 20 years straight of fighting.

Where you think all the inflationary forces come from? Surely it can't be printing money to fund wars... That would just be silly.

That doesn't exactly add up (the nicest way I'll put it). Inflation in the US is primarily demand-pull coupled with expansionary monetary policy and horrendous wage/price feedback (artificially driven significantly higher by corporations seeking short term quarterly gains in perpetuity), along with a TON of other way, way more important factors that I couldn't possibly reach into in the limits of ONE reply on Reddit. Inflation rates aren't coupled or even loosely correlated with military spending regardless of any +/- FY adjustments you make in the US in this century (Afghanistan and Iraq began in the early 2000s, our big inflation boom was 2021, when spending and fighting in war were at a historic low for this century). Wars certainly contribute to purely expansionary monetary inflation, as does quite literally everything else in the entire country when your government primarily funds things through debt.

The 2008 bailouts, in the end, cost practically nothing compared to the middle east wars, to say nothing of the perpetual investments in maintaining the capability to wage those wars.
