They are destroying every single refinery, tf u talking about

They're damaging them all, not destroying. They've certainly dealt a blow to Russia's capacity, but he's right, Ukraine is doing it as fast as they can. If they could do it faster, they would.

That's not embarrassing a country that still holds newly (as of this war) gained territory in their country. That's just strategy.

I support Ukraine but they are still in a position of needing to win back losses, not in a position of embarrassing their enemy.

I feel like both can be true. Continued national embarrassment weakens Putin and the hardliners. They are running out of space to control the narrative and when that happenns it can lead to him being ousted or that cohesion in the military breaking.

Taking back territory is too costly, it makes far more sense to do so much economic damage to Russia that they are forced to leave. Why waste men's lives trying to take back 1km at a time vs. destroying Russia's will/ability to continue the war? If things continue as they are, the collapse will eventually happen almost all at once. Realistically the goal is the death/overthrow of Putin by others within Russia who are the ones actually paying the costs of this war.

So it’s not incredibly embarrassing to not be able to checks notes have gas in one of the most oil rich countries in the northern hemisphere?

It is a major strategic gain to knock out nearly half of Russia's refineries. It is not "embarrassing TF out of the regime" that still holds a good chunk of Ukraine's sovereign territory.

It is not "embarrassing TF out of the regime"

Yeah, it is. They're pretending to be a superpower.

The child they attacked for their lollipop is putting up serious resistance, dealing good blows and everyone can see it.

Is it embarrassing that a three day special military operation is in it’s fourth year of kinetic warfare?

Is it embarrassing that a global superpower has chewed through nearly 80 years of military industry output in four years?

Is it embarrassing that a first world global* super power had to ask a third world country for soldiers and material (North Korea) or contract soldiers (Ghana, Mali, The Congo, etc.)?

Is it embarrassing to not be able to get water to the frontline because your civilians have no gas? Your oil fleet has been degraded, and your prisons are empty?

Or is it only embarrassing if Putin surrenders? You make no sense.

these people want to have internet conversations, not actual geopolitical conversations.
Hitting russia's refineries hurts russia... but until that translates to russia's own logistics lines being impacted enough that ukraine can reclaim lost land, it won't be considered a successful strategy for the near term, and ukraine cannot afford to invest money/time/effort into long term plans when they aren't sure how much funding is going to be coming from where.
The goal here is absolutely to impact logistics lines, so they're going to keep at it until the russian troops in ukraine a severely under supplied and then, assuming this happens, push.

Explain how Russia asking North Korea for military material and soldiers is not embarrassing and also an invalid point to the geopolitical aspect of the war. I will wait for your internet intelligence to overwhelm my ignorance, I’m sure I’ll be waiting awhile.

Do you really think this is enough of an embarrassment to russia that it'll change the trajectory in the war or power structure in russia? I doubt it. And I doubt Ukraine's government is banking on it.
Ukraine isn't bombing refineries in an attempt to embarrass russia into a cultural revolution. they're trying to interrupt supply lines. Bombing refineries is the smart thing to do. it will be considered a success when said supply lines effectively dry up and ukraine can continue with reclamation.

like... what does "embarrassment" even mean, or matter, in this context? yeah, putin looks like a dipshit cuz he thought this was gonna be a few days/weeks... but here we are years later and he's 'solving the problem' the same way he always has, regardless of whatever levels of "embarrassment" we're projecting on to him. That is to say, he's just gonna keep throwing human lives, russian or otherwise, until he wins, dies, or russia falls apart.
If russia relied on global PR to win wars, the world would look very different.

Its been 1700 days for what was expected to be 1-3 weeks of fighting. Embarassing? Come again?

Mostly Russia embarrasses itself on the global stage.

Ukraine has been embarrassing Russia since Russia started the war: inflicting over 1,000,000 casualties, sinking Russian warships without any navy. Downing advanced Russian warplanes, taking out advanced Russian weaponry and easily embarrassing Russian generals.

They aren't mutually exclusive imo

Would ecirclement and potential capture of 800-1500 Russian troops near Lyman be embarrassing?

2

u/vipw 9h ago

No. russia is losing that many troops each day.

Embarassment only matters if it's felt by the russians who otherwise don't care what their government is doing. It's embarassing to not be able to use mobile internet, not to be able to buy gasoline, not to be able to take out a mortgage. Those are the embarassments that can cause the zeitgeist to shift.
