For Russia, Ukraine is arguably already considerably worse in raw military losses. CSIS estimated in July 2026 that Russia had suffered roughly 1.4 million battlefield casualties, including as many as 450,000 deaths, since February 2022. CSIS describes those fatalities as more than four times U.S. fatalities in all American wars combined since WWII.

8.7 million Russian soldiers died in ww2 so till again not even that big.

8.7 million Soviet soldiers died in WW2. 8.7 million Russians did not. Russia was one of 15 Soviet Socialist Republics. 55% of the Soviet population did not live in Russia, and Russia didn't bear the biggest brunt of the war. Belarus did. For that matter, Ukraine is also a former Soviet Socialist Republic. 40 years ago this would be a civil war.

Bro 26 million Soviet citizens dies in ww2 it does not compare to the 1.4 million of today. Thats my point.
