Monthly Zcash Discussion - August 01, 2026 - Use this thread for general chatter, basic questions, and if you're new to Zcash
What is Zcash?
Zcash is a privacy preserving digital currency. It is the first blockchain to leverage a novel technology called Zero-knowledge proofs to enable privacy and selective transparency. Zero-knowledge proofs allow transactions to be verified without revealing the sender, receiver or transaction amount. Selective disclosure features within Zcash allow a user to share some transaction details, for purposes of compliance or audit.
Development work on Zcash began in 2013 by Johns Hopkins professor Matthew Green and some of his graduate students. The development was completed by the for-profit Zerocoin Electric Coin Company, LLC, led by Zooko Wilcox, a Colorado-based computer security specialist and cypherpunk. Over time, this company rebranded and converted to a non-profit org now known as the Electric Coin Company (ECC). Zcash development now occurs with support from ECC employees, the Zcash Foundation, and many community members through community elected funding streams that originate from ongoing Zcash mining rewards.

THORChain v3.20 is bringing native XMR and ZEC swaps as privacy coins make a comeback
ZEC has been getting some attention lately but the infrastructure side of the privacy coin comeback is more interesting to me
THORChain v3.20 is laying the groundwork for native XMR and ZEC swaps into assets like BTC and ETH without wrapped tokens or a centralized exchange in the middle. With privacy coins getting delisted from more CEXs that could matter a lot more than the current price action
Lowkey want to know how much demand there is for native privacy coin liquidity when these routes are fully live

ZEC storage and MGMt class or workshop
Looking for in-person or structured workshops in the US that go past “download Zashi and write down the seed.”
Example of what I want to build: keep ~50ZEC in cold storage, split so each wallet only holds 10 ZEC, then use a separate wallet for spending / day-to-day transfers.
What I want covered:
• Storage options and the actual stack (shielded vs transparent, Keystone air-gap, Ledger shielded app limits, Trezor transparent-only, desktop/offline workflows, steel backups, geographic split)
• How to keep ZEC shielded in cold storage instead of dumping everything to t-addrs just because a device is easier
• Storage techniques, not just a product demo
• Wallet-to-wallet flow for different use cases (receive shielded → long-term vault → spend wallet / exchange t-addr when you have to)
• How to eliminate a single storage point without creating a mess of seed phrases, viewing keys, and recovery files
• How people actually manage multiple seeds / UFVK backups / device restores without one mistake breaking privacy or access
Zcash custody is not a carbon copy of Bitcoin custody. Shielded support on hardware is still uneven, multisig is thinner, and the spend path often involves a hot wallet plus a transparent hop. I want a workshop that treats that as the real problem, not a footnote.
Local Zcash meetups (Boston has done shielded hardware-wallet sessions), conference workshops, or a company that will sit down and walk through Keystone + Zashi / air-gapped signing would all help. Even better if it is not just “set up one mobile wallet.”
Drop names, cities, or links if you’ve been to one that was actually good.

Voting on Vizor ~ beginner-friendly walkthrough
Hihi ^^
I’ve been exploring Zcash as a newcomer and documenting my first steps in Vizor. With the NU7 Scope vote now live, I tested the complete voting flow and turned it into a beginner-friendly walkthrough~
The guide covers:
- what coinholder voting and voting power mean
- which ZEC was eligible for this round
- where to read the proposal discussions before voting
- how to select and review your answers
- what happens while Vizor generates the zero-knowledge proofs
and more~
I’m still learning about Zcash myself, so I tried to explain everything from a newcomer’s perspective and highlight the points that initially confused me. Feedback and technical corrections from more experienced community members are very welcome :3

For people already mining ZEC: are you adding more machines, holding what you have, or selling into the hardware FOMO?
I've been looking at Z15 Pro numbers and on paper some of the profitability looks pretty tempting.
But that's also what makes me suspicious lol.
If ZEC keeps climbing but network difficulty follows, how much of today's profitability actually survives?

Easy to use cold wallet
Hi guys, i am relatively new to the community, started to have interest for zcash last year.
Since i have been DCAing, it accumulated, and now am looking for a cold wallet to store my ZEC. Is there any easy to use wallet for a newbie like me. I have ledger and tangem for my other crypto, but they dont support ZEC if i got that correct?
Also i see people talking about shielding? What does that mean? Should i shield, and why?

ZEC is in Top 10
Almost ten yeas later, we are here again in top 10.
Grayscale Is Turning Zcash Into an ETF and the SEC Might Actually Let It Happen
ZEC will replace BTC in the future.
Please accumulate minimum of 10 ZEC.
You wouldn't want to be like those newbies in the Bitcoin community trying to stack sats just to attain 1 whole coin. By then it's already too late.
The time is now! Stack 10 ZEC minimum, shield it and forget about it. 5-10years time we will come back to this.
This will be the last 100x. Privacy is the final phase of cryptography. There will be no more.
Best of luck!🤞🏻

What should you verify before buying an Antminer Z15 Pro in 2026?
For anyone looking at Equihash ASICs, especially Antminer Z15 / Z15 Pro listings, I would slow down before trusting the headline price.
A few checks matter a lot:
- Exact model and hashrate variant. Sellers sometimes use loose naming.
- New vs used condition, with proof that matches the serial number.
- PSU condition and whether the unit is complete.
- Live hashing proof, ideally with pool-side evidence rather than only a photo.
- Kernel logs, chip temperature, fan behavior, and error rate.
- Power requirements and whether your site can run the load continuously.
- Warranty terms, if any, in writing.
- Shipping origin, packing quality, and who carries damage risk.
- Seller verification. If the price looks unrealistically cheap, treat that as a warning sign.
Mining hardware can be useful, but it should not be bought on hype or assumed ROI. Zcash mining economics can change, and the machine still has to make sense after electricity, heat, downtime, and risk.
Disclosure: I work with VoLT Mining, a UAE-based ASIC hardware supplier.

Multiple cold wallets linked with ZODL?
Is there any way to link more than one cold wallet with ZODL? Currently, it has the default app wallet and a cold wallet. I don’t see a way to add anymore. Is it not possible?
Can't get my version 1 transaction funds moved to current wallet
I've tried every wallet imaginable. My funds were from a transaction in May of 2018. Some wallets only go back to October 2018. Others have a birthdate option going back further but none seem to find my transaction. Here is my transaction ID
0f4d79ca00883487179e30798dafe85891fd462f49a16270ed99d98dd619e338
Cake wallet, zodl, ywallet, unstoppable zcool are all wallets I've tried. I've got no other funds on this set of secret words.
Someone want to try and recover my funds? At this point I have nothing to lose as I can't recover them. If you're a trusted redditor with a long standing history I'll hand over the seed phrase and if you can recover I'll give you 25%.

Z15 420ksol’s
Are these being under valued all of a sudden? 2 of em = a pro with a slight (8%-10%) efficiency loss. Still kicking butt.
Yeah I know hashrate is climbing but still….

Mining cost?
Why is the price of the token to disconnected from the mining cost? I'm struggling to work out the price discrepancy. I'm guessing the price is being proped up?
I'm a wrong to think the mining cost should be correlated to the price?
