Your pistol as it stand is a perfect Delta or Green Berets style clone. I think it was unintended, but happen to be a close resemblance. I would've keep it that way without doing any modification unless the internal parts need some TLC. Nice catch for the price.
Here is one of the 5th Special Force Group 1911 since we are on the topic. This one also featured commercial Colt Series 70 slide, but have USGI frame.
Great example of a home modified gun, that someone loved and probably carried everyday. Those King beavertails were the first (and best solution) for a home gunsmith. It’s got everything a factory 1911 didn’t have, but needed.
When I was 21 I went with the plastic blocky option. But my decision was based on: I didn't grow up shooting , so I wanted the extra capacity, and 9mm ammo costs for the training I was planning on getting.
Didn't feel comfortable with only 7+1 until years later, reading 1911tuner's advice on THR forums and realized that the firearm was the cheaper cost compared to ammo even when reloading.
