2026 Weekly Challenge List

/r/52weeksofcooking is a way for each participant to challenge themselves to cook something different each week. The technicalities of each week's theme are largely unimportant, and are always open to interpretation. Basically, if you can make an argument for your dish being relevant to the theme, then it's fine.

Week 35 Introduction Thread: Rolling

Get your rolling pins ready! Maybe you want to literally roll something, such as sushi, spring rolls, cabbage rolls, roulades, cinnamon rolls, or a Swiss roll. And if you want to get really ambitious, you can try porchetta, braciole, galantine, rotolo, laminated pastries, or anything else that involves spiraling or rolling.

Wikipedia List of Rolled Foods

p.s. Sorry for the late introduction. I was in the Alpine region with no signal. The food was just ok, not sure why you guys were so obsessed with it.

Week 35: Rolling: Minnesota Sushi (meta: things I couldn’t eat while pregnant)

I’d never heard of these but to be honest it’s a damn shame they’re not pregnancy safe because there’s a pregnancy cravings jackpot!
Just ham rolled around cream cheese and a pickle spear

Meta explanation: deli meats are discouraged during pregnancy (listeria risk)

These were really good! I wish I’d made chimichurri sauce instead of just using pre made salsa verde though. They came together really quickly.

First time baking something with tangzhong! (I thought it was waaay more complicated than it actually is!)

Recipe: Perfectly Pillowy Cinnamon Rolls by Charlotte Rutledge (King Arthur Baking)

I used the provided vanilla icing recipe, with the addition of 90g cream cheese.

Week 35: Rolling - Gochujang Cookies

I love these gochujang cookies from NYTimes, but the gochujang application is difficult and not very pretty if you follow the recipe instructions. Luckily the comments section comes to the rescue: spread an even layer of gochujang on the dough, roll it up, and then cut it. This creates a beautiful swirl and helps the gochujang distribute evenly. The technique of “rolling” makes this recipe so much better!
