My career is long.

I graduated from Northwesten Pritzker School of Law (1970) with a JD!

I currently have 6 children (all of these born in the 1970s-early 80s) and, sadly. Almost all my family is dead.

My wife (1946-2024) left me on 2024 due to cancer. And i was and i'm still destroyed today.

Did not fight in vietnam, I'm not a Vietnam Vet.

I play golf, i like to read. Etc.

I'm not abandoned by my children, they still care for me. I feel grateful, proud.

I am 17F and a teen mom to my 2 year old son . Growing up, I was never the kid anyone thought would end up getting pregnant. Honestly, when I was younger, I never even wanted kids. I used to despise being around them, mostly because I found my younger siblings annoying, I grew up bapist and was more religious then most of my siblings I went tk chruch every sunday everything

But when I was 14, I ended up pregnant and gave birth to my son when I was 15. His dad and I co parent, and we're on good terms. A lot of sad things happened that year when I got pregnant, and I was honestly doing anything I could to distract myself and get my mind off everything that was going on. Three years ago, I sustained a severe traumatic brain injury falling from an heigh.
This resulted in multiple neurosurgeries, a two months ICU stay and seven months hospitalisation for rehabilitation. I had to rebuild my life from scratch: first I had to learn how to breathe autonomously again, then how to eat, to speak and finally how to walk.
This was probably the hardest thing I did.
Having spent so much time in the hospital, I learned a lot of things and gained some new perspectives on reality. I don’t think other people can fully grasp.
I also met a lot of amazing people I will forever be grateful for.
I came back to thank the doctors, nurses and hospital staff who cared for me in the intensive care unit; meeting them, contacting them, talking to them meant a lot to me and made my life much more richer.
I am now facing a hard challenge: coming back to normal life after the word quite literally fell on me.
I study literature in university, I do para climbing as a sport and every week I go to therapy and physical therapy to always try to become a better version of myself.
I am a writer, I write mostly poems and sometimes short stories. Writing has been truly therapeutic to me and has helped me a lot on my journey.

As the title says, I’m a 25-year-old grown man who still sleeps and cuddles with a stuffed animal. I’ve done this for years, pretty much whenever I'm at home and relaxing. For me, it is just really comfortable to have something to hold onto while resting.

When I was 2-4 years old, I can remember meeting my aunt for the first and last time. I remember she smelled like smoke because she smoked cigarettes inside. She had our cousins watch us while we played in her basement and all the adults talked upstairs. In her basement were bags upon bags of items, filling up the entire basement from floor to ceiling. I remember you could hardly walk at all in the basement, and I had plenty of fun climbing on all of her things. Inside were clothes or other random objects and my sister and I played dress up in her clothes. We had a lot of fun. I just really remember loving my aunt.

Then one day my parents told me she died. And then they told me a lie and said she died in a car crash falling asleep at the wheel. I believed it until I was 9 years old and my sister told me the truth. She was murdered by our uncle, who I forgot even existed. I went online and I searched up her full name and I found her story in old newspapers and blogs. AMA. I will not share her name as my cousins have never spoke publicly about her to any media source to my knowledge.

For context, NHS 111 is the urgent-but-not-emergency-but-still-needs-help medical phone number in the UK. Sort of like 999's (our 911 or 112) little sibling. Much fewer ambulances and a lot more same-day primary care, ED, urgent treatment centre, minor injury unit, etc. referrals. Maybe the closest USA equivalent is a 24/7 nurse advice line? (except we're free of charge, no insurance required, just like the rest of UK health services except weird outliers like prescriptions, dentists and opticians) ((but some people still get those for free if they qualify)) (((just flexing sorry 😚😛))).

We also handle miscellaneous admin or internal healthcare/social care requests, e.g. emergency prescription refills, palliative care teams, expected deaths, members of the public seeking health or medication advice/info, etc. We do it all, really.

A 111 health advisor is the person that picks up the phone when you ring 111. That's me. I'm sure most people in the UK are familiar.

I'm sure most questions (if i get any that is) will be from UK residents though. I imagine this is all quite boring to those who don't live here. But anyone is welcome to ask!!!

I'm also very aware some will have their grievances. It's sad to see the stories people have about their interactions with the service, when they've been let down, or left worse off for whatever reason after contacting us. I'd love to hear these and maybe clear some things up or clarify things, but remember that we are people on the other end of the line, often acting as the first point of contact for a crumbling health service, and we really do try our best. Or I do. I can't really speak for anyone else. But I'd like to think they try their best too!

I am a 40 year old female, living in Germany. I was a sick child, growing up to be an even sicker woman. I was diagnosed with everything under the earth, besides what I really have.

My former diagnoses were:

-Fibromalgia

-Anxiety disorder

-Psychosomatic pain

-Hashimotos (ok, this was right at least)

-Adipositas

-Being a hysteric young woman

At the age of 37, I went to a new orthopedist, as a last try.

At this point my pain was umbearable, they said it is because I am fat.

I had episodes where my heart was racing with a bpm of 240 on and off. They told me it was anxiety and send me away.

I was falling because my joints just folded away, they said I am clumsy.

I had constant blood sugar crashes, no matter what I was eating, they said It is because I don't lose weight enough.

I could not even keep myself sitting up anymore and was fighting to have some quality of life with this exhaustion, they said I am too lazy to work.

I lost a lot of weight, my legs became bigger and deformed and burned like fire, they said it is because I don't do sports.

I was getting super high puls with just standing up, they said I am dramatic.

I told the orthopedist everything. He looked at me like I am indeed crazy but he started to examine me. The look on his face changed. He ordered like 1 million X-rays on the same day. I was there for quite a long time. He came back and said he will send me to the university hospital close by, into the human genetics laboratory. He also sent me to the MRI for the knees.

The human genetics guy diagnosed me with 2 mutations: 1 that causes colon cancer and 1 tnxb mutation, that caused Ehlers-Danlos-Syndrom. What followed was more MRI visits, countless of specialists who now all of a sudden did all what they could, including a heart catheter.

The Result was:

Ehlers-Danlos-Syndrome

Insulinresistance

Lipedema and Lymphedema

The electric stimulus of my heart is fucked up

Me/cfs

Pots

Hypermobility (obviously)

Chronic gastric issues

osteoarthritis grade 4 in both knees

osteoarthritis in most joints

Swan neck deformity all fingers, also osteoarthritis

Snapping hip Syndrome

Chronic Piriformis-Syndrome

Polyneuropathy in feet and legs

Hashimotos (we knew that)

I am living in an assisted living. I have a 90% disability card and care level 2 (we call it Pflegegrad in Germany). I have to wear braces on both legs, feet and the whole right arm. Outside I am using an electrical wheelchair. I had several surgeries and many longer hospital stays.

They "fixed" the heart issue and I am taking Metformin for the Insulinresistance. I am taking around 15-20 pills each days. I have a disability assistance 3x a week and need lifelong physical therapy twice a week. I never really sleep.

I am over all of it. I am over the system, I am over everyone who was invalidating my feelings and pain. I will tell this story to the day that I die. So everyone will hear what they do or don't do to people, especially women in the health care system.

One year ago I was in a pain clinic. They helped me a lot. They listened, looked at everything and really tried. This whole clinic was full of people like me. None of them had EDS, but all of them were very sick and all of then went into the "psychosomatic" corner of the german healthcare system, before they got diagnosed. Unfortunatly, lots of these people where there for palliative pain treatment. May this be my indictment.

I’m 17F, and I quit soccer after playing for 12 years. I started playing when I was 5 years old, and soccer was baiscally the biggest part of my life growing up. I played center midfielder and spent years practicing playing games and traveling going for tournaments.

I started getting attention from college coaches and received offers to play at the college level. But I decided to quit I realized I didn’t want to continue playing anymore, and I don't want to go to college

Also, by the way, I was the slowest guy in school - literally everyone was faster than me - boys, girls, my first win was against an ex wheelchair guy. vo2max improved from 37 to 62.

We both are about 40. I’m about 6 years older than her. We both have 2 kids each all of them late-teens young adults. We don’t intend to have children together. If such thing happens by accident – we both are ok with the consequences.

We live in nearby cities around 45 minutes of travel by car. For both of us it doesn’t make much sence to move. Distance is enough to comfortably drive for a quickie at least once a week and sometimes stay and sometimes get back home to do my things and let her do hers. Her kids live with her, mine doe’s not – I have an empty spot to hang around pretty much any time. Both of ours worktime is pretty flexible so arranging meeting between us is almost always easy.

This is going on for more than 7 years. And we have talked about our options so far and we both tend to think that we might live together “some time in future... maybe”.
We both are happy about each other, we have still noticable “pink eye” phase. Yes. For seven years. We usually meet 2-3 times a week, and spend 1-2 nights together. I recon we still have more s*x than an average couple that lives together.

One of the key moments I think is that I am always happy to see her and she is always happy to see me. We both value each others independece very much and seeing her as an independent women is one of the best things I love about her.

That kind of relationship model is super rare or almost non existant. I can’t name a single example from my field of friends or relatives. Im ok that people look at us a bit strange. Some have asked questions. But for us it makes perfect sense.

I grew up in an extremely rural town, I don’t do social media other than Reddit. My family is Irish/American and had owned the land I grew up on for generations, it is a “holler” and my grandfather gave each of his kids a piece of land. He was a bootlegger and had 9 children, I am the youngest of those 27 grandchildren. We all lived there, ask me anything!

I grew up way out in the middle of nowhere.

From the time I was 9 until I was 21, I lived in a town with a population of roughly 350 people. The nearest larger town was about 60 miles away, and that was where we had to go for things most people probably take for granted... grocery shopping, fast food, bigger stores, entertainment, and a lot of basic services.

There wasn't much to do, everybody knew everybody, and going into town wasn't something you did because you forgot one thing at the store.

It was just normal life to me growing up, but now that I've been away from it for a while, I've realized how strange some parts of it probably sound to people who grew up in cities or suburbs.

We're a retired couple in our 60s who spend much of the year travelling through Europe and further afield. Rather than paying for hotels or Airbnbs, we stay in people's homes and look after their pets while they're away.
