Survey Results Megathread - Resource effectiveness, average scores, and more!

A few years ago we ran surveys of this subreddit to gather data on your experiences for a variety of things. Which resources are the most effective? How much time outside of class do you spend? Did your score reflect your grade in class?

These surveys were ran a couple times and, along with a few other polls, turned into results posts for 24 different AP courses. Unfortunately, the posts were deleted some time back. I still have the data though and am now recompiling them.

Here's the schedule I'm going to try and get these posted on

  • APUSH link
  • Biology
  • Calc AB
  • Calc BC
  • Chemistry
  • CSA
  • CSP
  • Gov
  • Lang
  • Lit
  • Psych
  • Stats
  • World
  • Physics 1
  • APES
  • HUG
  • Macro - Thursday 3/19 morning
  • Micro - Thursday 3/19 morning
  • Phys C Mech - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
  • Phys C E&M - Thursday 3/20 afternoon
  • Spanish Lang - Friday 3/21 morning
  • Euro - Friday 3/21 morning
  • Seminar - Friday 3/21 afternoon
  • Research - Friday 3/21 afternoon

It is important to note that this is self-reported data from a community of high scorers, after receiving their score. It does not reflect the general population, and people who did well on the exams were also more likely to report their experience. Some results, like average scores, should not be taken at face value. Other results like resource effectiveness, are still valuable compared to one another.

Once I have finished posting each of the courses, I will do a comparisons and conclusions post to rank courses by difficulty, expectation, etc.

Also note that we are planning to run these surveys again this year for more data after score release.

Good luck in your classes everyone!

At this point, this has to be ragebait. As I write this, I am literally sitting in a Calc 1 Recitation in college that I AM TAKING BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T GET ME MY AP SCORE IN TIME. I don't know who I'm going to blame, but all I know is I'm raining Hell on somebody.

LIKE WDYM I STUDY THE WHOLE YEAR JUST TO GET A SINGLE NUMBER 1-5 AND NOTHING ELSE??

After a bit of searching up last year I had realized it was bc they usually recycle tests (among other things), which makes sense for fairness but at the same doesn't change that I would really like to see exactly what happened on that test, like really, exactly how close was I to another number? What did I get wrong? How was my LEQ?

Anyone else feel that 😭

Other CalcCore- My Project to help assist in math related courses with calculator

Upvotes

So basically i had this idea to make a bunch of calc programs to assist with equation and were starting off with physics on the hp prime g2. The github repo is at https://github.com/Yusuf6411/CalcCore and as u can tell the readme is ai cuz i dont wanna write all that but i did a lot of coding coding so itd be nice if u could leave some feedback. Feedback regarding issues on current version, future upgrades to courses, and future support for calculators as well as modification to this would be greatly of use

Bio What was AP Bio like for you guys starting out?

My teacher has just been having us do labs without any real teaching (just setting up an experiment and writing data and stuff), while my friend's teacher is going over cells supposedly. Is my teacher just not teaching AP Biology content right or is there another reason?

Question Time Management

Upvotes

I’m a sophomore in high school, who’s always struggled with time management. I’ve tried focusflight, alarms, timers, but seeing the visual timer stresses me out more. I literally have breakdowns mid-study session over how little time I have compared to my volume of work. I typically spend 4-5 hours a day doing homework, and my school runs on block schedule. This is not sustainable, as I’m unable to work on my passion project or do any extracurriculars. I feel like I’m constantly under pressure and running out of time. How do ya’ll complete homework efficiently, and accurately? Do you have a schedule? Are you using specific study methods? Any help or advice is appreciated.

Precal Any tips for AP precal?

Hi, I recently started AP precal and honestly I’m failing 😭 I understand the hw mostly but when it comes to tests I don’t do so good
Algebra 2 was not my favorite, but I decided to take it anyway becuz the only other AP I took was stats (which I like) and wap which I took over the summer.

Anyway i don’t even know why I’m struggling on unit 1, but any tips for piece wise functions or graphing, etc.

I also want to be a derm PA in the future so im not sure if precal is even super important. Js a thought.

Backstory: Our AP World History teacher was grading our map quizzes, and a student put the Gulf of Africa as an answer. Our teacher called them out, and the kids in our class started cracking up. It's now the most popular inside joke between the two of us.

Question Duel Enrollment vs AP

Upvotes

hi guys! I am a current junior and I have been planning to take ap gov this year. today, I received an email from my principal which basically says that I could take the Duel Enrollment version. BUT… the way he worded the email makes it seem like I would be taking the duel enrollment course exam in place of the ap one, while remaining in the ap class all year. it’s really confusing me and I was hoping someone could spread some clarity. is this a common thing and I’ve just never heard of it?

World AMSCO Textbook usefulness for AP World?

Upvotes

Sophomore taking AP World. My teacher SUCKS and genuinely does nothing the whole class. She will ramble on about something completely unrelated to the topic. It looks like most of the actual learning will be done at home. Our textbook is the AMSCO one, and I'm wondering how useful it actually is for this class. If y'all could suggest me some other resources too, that would be great.

Other Year 12 National Exam Results: Only 34% Pass Rate After Months of War Disruption

We just got our Year 12 national exam results back, and the pass rate is completely insane: only 40,000 out of 117,000 students passed.

For context, our school year was completely disrupted. We lost 2 to 3 months of classes because of the US-Iran conflict and the threat of drones flying over us, on top of about two weeks of normal holidays. Expecting students to pass a national exam after missing months of school due to a literal security crisis is crazy. Did anyone else’s year group get hit this hard?

To make matters worse, this was the exact year they decided to change the entire system. They announced that Arabic and our native language exams would now directly impact our overall GPA. Knowing full well that most of us don't speak fluent Arabic, they handed us an Arabic exam that absolutely whooped our ass

Expecting us to adapt to a brand new grading system and pass a brutal exam in a language we barely know after losing months of school to a security crisis is crazy.

Plus online school is a 10/10 fail.

Question What are your afterschool study schedules?

Saw a girl on TikTok come home, and study consecutively for hours because she’s taking 7 APs. Viewed the video once and scoffed in disbelief. How can people actually come home, take no scrolling breaks, and do work nonstop? Don’t get me wrong, if I have a ton of things, I’ll power through. But on a regular basis, I scroll and talk to friends, sometimes play viola and go to lessons, and then gaslight myself into thinking I can do things later. I mean it works out in the end. Am I just lazy, or do you guys actually come home and stay in your room studying up until 12 AM?

Chem Ap Chem Grade

I took chem honors last year and did really well and get a majority of A's on the test. This year im taking Ap chem with the same teacher but for some reason she just isnt teaching as well. So i missed about 3 days and missed 2 units so I ended up watching videos on youtube to cover topic 1. We just had a test today on it and I got 19/25. I studied all night but ended up getting most of the average atomic mass questions wrong which I thought I understood. Does it get better? Pls give me tips, these first weeks have kind of killed whatever confidence I had😭

Calc BC doable to self study calc bc, stats and csa?

Incoming junior and my school only offers a max amount of 3 aps for juniors and seniors and none for freshmans and 1-2 for sophmores (which are either world or precalc so i took world).

Im registed to take ap lit, apush, and ap csp this year. My school doesnt offer calc bc stats or csa and my guidence counselor confirmed that those courses wont be added within the next few years.

I did very well in algebra 1 and algebra 2/trig with 94% average and 96% average. I dont have any prior coding knowledge but ill also be taking dual enrollment cs and software development courses this year since im very interested in pursuing a cs major. I also was considering stats since i would like to also pursue a premed track to med school since i would like to do any health technical professions as a career.

Should/would i be able to handle self studying those 3 ap courses? Also anyone that has self studied or taken these courses could u pls share me any advice on what to study and what to not study and prerequisites and possibly your score if your comfortable?

Chat, so my teacher said I had to make my big idea for one of my inquiries about something "personal." What does that mean?

Does that literally mean an experience, or, like, your personal values, or something else I'm potentially overthinking?

I also wouldn't like it to be personal, but if it's for a grade, I guess I'll try. Already chose my SI, but it's early enough for me to change if it is literally something personal.

Question Should I self-study AP Lang on top of my current workload?

This year I am taking AP Calc BC, AP Physics 1, AP Comp Sci A, and AP Psych (+other classes & clubs). I'm taking the dual enrollment version of English 3, Macroeconomics, and US Government and Politics. At my school, we can take the AP exam for the corresponding dual enrollment course and receive a GPA boost if we pass. I have already decided to take the exams for Macro and Gov (mainly because my teacher already prepares us for the test since a majority plan to take it), but I am debating on Lang. I'm not that good at English in general. I mean I do enough to pass my English tests and I write decent, but I struggle with vocab and format. I've looked into the course description and the essay part seems a bit similar to the AP history LEQ/DBQs? I also struggle with MCQs, especially for English.

What should I do? If I do choose to self-study, how should I prepare and what resources do you recommend?

Precal Trig/Math Analysis Honors --> AP Precalc Exam

title!

my school doesn't offer ap precalc, but it does offer trig/math analysis honors so i'm taking that rn using the sullivan precalc textbook. should i consider signing up for the ap precalc exam? my school is pretty strict and has ap caps which has me worried about receiving ap scholar w distinction. i'm currently taking ap euro + rest honors and will probably take 4 aps junior year (calc ab being one of them). would this be advisable? thanks!
