Request worldbuilding-centric fic focused on katara and sokka?

hii! after years i finally watched ATLA, and i LOVED the world.

i also LOVED katara and sokka (im a sucker for sibling bonds)

so i really wanted a fic focused on expanding the worldbuilding: culture, differences between tribes, politics, yada yada. but also a fic focused on katara AND sokka.

i did find some worldbuilding fics but it was mostly focused on zuko, and i kinda wanted something more katara and sokka centric, even though i don't mind zuko as one of the main characters as long as most of the focus is on my water ogs

i REALLY love long fics too, to have the time to breathe and take in the world

i don't mind if it has any shipps on it AS LONG AS it doesn't have bashing of any character, like aang

does this fic exist? pretty please?

It would be funny to read. Maybe he would be jealous of Toph or the other way around. Has anyone found something like this?

Promotion I finally completed my first fanfic properly!

i finally published the last chapter+epilogue+acknowledgements of my ATLA fanfic last friday, marking book 1 complete! now, I have complete fanfictions, but theres only 2 of them, 1 of them was discontinued, and the other had a completely rushed ending because i lost motivation and bullcrapped the ending. but this time i actually got the ending i wanted with all the scenes fully written and research properly done, with no rushes, no discontinuation, nada. i’m really proud of this and I’m beginning to write book 2 now!

blurb: An ATLA+OC fanfic

"And who am I, an imperfect design? Shackled by your desire."

The jungle is alive, and it does not welcome strangers.

There are rumors in the villages near the forest's edge. Travelers speak of paths that rearrange themselves, trees that block the way, and a figure in the dark-silent, blindfolded, there one moment and gone the next. Some call her a spirit. Some call her a witch. No one has gotten close enough to find out.

Her name is Lian Hua. She's fourteen years old. And she's been hiding for four years.

" 애초에 당신은 도망치고 있었을 뿐, 단 한 순간도 자신의 진짜 감정을 직면하지 않았지. 적당한 대의나 정의 같은 것에 매달리면 뭔가 해결되는 것 같았어? 돌아온 건 그 개죽음인 거야."

When four strangers and two animals crash through her canopy, she means to drive them out. They're loud. They're reckless. One of them bends air, one bends stone, one bends water and the other none at all, and all of them are being hunted by something they won't explain. She should send them away. She should close the trees and be done with it.

But they're children. Tired, terrified, far from home. Just like she was.

So against every instinct, she lets them stay.

She doesn't know yet that this decision will drag her out of the jungle and into a war and a world she's been avoiding. She doesn't know that the people she's letting in will ask questions she's spent years burying-about her eyes, her bending, and the family she left behind. And she doesn't know that some secrets won't stay buried, no matter how deep you plant them.

Looking for fanfic like this if anyone has any recs!

Does anyone have any female OC airbender fics? Either someone who gets frozen in the iceberg with Aang, or maybe an AU where Aang and Katara have a girl airbender instead of Tenzin, or any female airbender that’s a part of the gAang somehow?

Any reccs for Zutara fanfics that end up being canon compliant?

Hello, I always felt Zutara was more believable during the actual events of Avatar: The Last Airbender than Kataang, although I can see them eventually getting together post the show ending (if I squint hard enough. Like I can see what the writers were going for, I just think they didn't quite pull it off, please don't downvote me to oblivion).

Anyone has recommendations for fics where Zutara gets together and then break up and it's eventually Kataang?

Recommendation Zuko becomes firelord but does not join the gaang

This prompt intrigues me the most in atla fanfics and I want more fics on this cause it shows a very interesting dynamic of zuko, iroh and the gaang and how they handle the politics.

I've already read Fractures and Towards the sun so apart from that please recommend something other.

I'm looking for a beta reader for a fic!

Hey! I’m looking for a beta reader for my Avatar: The Last Airbender crossover fic- The Last Energybender.

Here's the link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/54127647/chapters/137046619

The fic is a Harry Potter x ATLA crossover, with Fem!Harry as the protagonist. I already have the overall story, character arcs, and major plot points planned out, so I’m not really looking for someone to help me come up with the plot.

What I’d particularly love help with is: • pacing. whether things feel rushed or dragged out • whether the progression of events feels natural • catching plot holes, inconsistencies, or things that don't quite make sense • flagging moments where character actions/reactions don't feel earned • generally telling me when something isn't working, even if I can't immediately see why

Basically, I know where I want the story to go, but I’d love another pair of eyes to make sure the journey there actually makes sense.

The fic is fairly long-term/ongoing, so ideally I'd be looking for someone who is comfortable beta-reading over time rather than just looking over one chapter.

If you're interested, feel free to comment or DM me and I can give you more details about the fic!

Prompt Last Song of the Phoenix King (short story I made)

Air Temple Island was bathed in the golden glow of sunrise. Inside a homestead, one particular couple indulged themselves in marital bliss.

Katara gasped as Aang's wandering lips found a sensitive spot behind her ear. "Aang. Aang! Stop it already you could wake the children!"

A chuckle from her husband sent a pleasant shiver down her spine. "Relax Katara, I could give a fire roar in their rooms; Bumi and Kya still wouldn't wake up. And it's still early…"

Aang's hands wandered down his wife's lush body, settling over her swollen belly.

The peace was broken by a messenger hawk screeching from their window sill.

"Aang, that's a royal messenger hawk."

"So it is. What does Zuko want?"

Aang unfurled the letter. Zuko's elegant handwriting danced before his eyes. He read it once, then twice, then thrice just to be certain. His face darkened with each read.

Katara noticed her husband's unease. "What's wrong sweetie?"

Aang turned to her, "I'm sorry. I'm going to be at the Fire Nation for quite some time. Don't leave any dinner for me."

"But what's happening? Is Zuko in trouble?"

"No, he's fine. Ozai is dying, and he's requested for me at his deathbed."

What would a bad avatar be like? Like one on the wrong side of history.

The series is all about how the Avatar keeps the world in balance, and all of the villains are people who want some sort of radical change in the world, but end up going too far.

What if a past Avatar when too far trying to maintain the balance of the world? Something equivalent to the fire nation wiping out the air nomads.

Maybe it was a past avatar that ordered humanity to kill all the lion turtles.

Promotion My ATLA ocinsert fic and why you should read it

okay, obviously, if you’re not one for ocinsert fics, that’s okay, I’ll be writing an xreader fic soon and you can come find me again later haha

for those who are okay with ocinserts, this is why you should read my fic, Lily of the Valley (forgive me if any of these come off as unserious, life’s too short to be serious):

- oc is NOT a firebender! (i see a lot of ocs who are firebenders for some reason, and i just thought it might make mine stand out a bit)

- oc is NOT sokka and katara’s sibling! (same as before, i see a lot of these?)

- oc is a waterbender, but mainly plantbender! (reason why is explained in the fic, dw it does fit canon rules and logic i made sure)

- it is complete/will be completed within the next 3-4 days! (the entire first book, which covers all of the canon atla seasons, and can be read as a standalone, is pretty much complete. sequel is undergoing development, but it’s not a must to read)

- heavy angst (which means entertaining, yay!)

- queer oc!

- fem oc x toph! (not sokka or zuko, not sure why those are so common either, although I see the vision)

- i am humorous (which means the dialogue will be humorous)

- oc has unique scenes/solo scenes! (Which means character development, and it’s not just a cardboard cutout character)

- authentic chinese person writing (therefore, no incorrect cultural representation)

- i worked very hard on this (3 months of oc development does not disappoint)

- very detailed character (like i said, 3 months of oc development!)

- NO AI GENERATED SLOP (i draw my own art unlike people using ai to generate their oc images, and i write my own work, ew ai boo)

- slow burn romance

- romance is subplot

You’d like this especially if you’re also in the following fandoms:

ALIEN STAGE (my main inspiration for characters, influenced my writing style past the point of no return, oc inspired by Sua)

Demon Slayer/Kimetsu No Yaiba (i also wrote a kny fic, but that’s unrelated. Trauma inspired by this series!)

Anyway, here’s the link:

The "Pocket Dimension" Theory: What If Unalaq Didn't Actually Erase the Past Avatars?

So this is a theory I've been thinking about, and after the new Aang movie I think there's actually more to it than I originally realised.

The basic idea is pretty simple:

What if Unalaq didn't actually erase the past Avatars themselves?

What if he destroyed the connection that allowed the current Avatar to reach them?

I'm not saying that's confirmed. That's the theory. I'm taking a bunch of visual and audio clues from the franchise and putting them together to see if they point towards that possibility.

And there's one thing from the new movie that really got me thinking about all of this.

  1. The Xian Problem

When Aang travels back through the spiritual side of his past lives and encounters Avatar Xian, he's not just shown as some random historical memory.

Xian is actually there.

He has his own personality, his own experiences, his own knowledge and he's able to interact with Aang in real time.

Then there's the really interesting part.

He interacts with the environment around him and manipulates the sand.

Now, I'm not necessarily saying this is normal physical earthbending. Honestly, the movements don't even really look like traditional earthbending to me, and I don't think Xian is necessarily standing in some normal physical location.

That's actually why I find it interesting.

Whatever exactly Xian is doing, we're being shown an Avatar who has been dead for thousands of years, but is still being presented as an individual consciousness existing within some kind of spiritual environment.

That makes me question what a "past life" actually is.

Are they literally just memories?

Or are the memories what the current Avatar is able to access, while the individual Avatar themselves continues to exist somewhere beyond that connection?

That's where my theory starts.

  1. What If Raava Is The Connection?

This is where I think the mechanics of the Avatar cycle become really important.

Wan and Raava become permanently fused, and from then on the Avatar continues reincarnating.

But Wan doesn't stop being Wan.

And the Avatars after him don't stop being individual people either.

Aang is Aang.

Roku is Roku.

Kyoshi is Kyoshi.

They all have completely different personalities because they lived completely different lives and had completely different experiences.

So I've started wondering whether Raava is actually what keeps all of those lives connected rather than being the thing that literally contains the existence of every Avatar.

Because when Unalaq attacks Raava, what do we actually see happen?

Korra loses her connection to the past Avatars.

She can't see Aang anymore.

She can't talk to Roku.

She can't talk to Kyoshi.

The connection is gone.

But do we ever actually see Aang himself being destroyed?

Do we see Roku being destroyed?

Do we see Kyoshi being destroyed?

Not really.

We see Korra lose access to them.

And that's a pretty important distinction for my theory.

Losing access to something doesn't automatically mean the thing itself has ceased to exist.

  1. The Guru Pathik Connection

This is where one of the older pieces of Avatar lore started making me think about this differently.

Guru Pathik talks about the illusion of separation.

He explains that things which appear separate aren't necessarily truly separate, and he uses the creek analogy to explain how energy can flow and how that flow can be blocked.

That got me thinking about the Avatar connection.

What if Unalaq essentially put a massive spiritual blockage in that connection?

The current Avatar can no longer reach the previous ones, but that doesn't necessarily tell us what happened to the previous ones themselves.

It's basically the difference between destroying something and losing the ability to access it.

If I block a river, the water can't get through.

That doesn't mean the water on the other side disappeared.

The path is blocked.

And that's basically the possibility I'm proposing happened to the Avatar cycle.

Unalaq destroyed Raava and broke the pathway that connected Korra to the previous Avatars.

But maybe the people on the other side of that pathway were never destroyed.

  1. So Where Would The Past Avatars Be?

This is where the "Pocket Dimension" part of my theory comes in.

And this is probably the most speculative part.

I'm not saying every Avatar literally builds their own universe after they die.

I'm thinking about the Spirit World as a massive spiritual environment that doesn't necessarily work according to the same rules as the physical world.

We've already seen spirits have their own spaces, environments and ways of existing that don't make sense according to normal physical rules.

So what happens to an Avatar who has been dead for thousands of years?

Maybe they don't just sit there as a frozen memory waiting for the next Avatar.

Maybe they become more and more integrated into the Spirit World.

The older the Avatar is, the further removed they could become from the living world.

Over thousands of years, maybe an individual Avatar can develop or become part of a localized spiritual space around themselves.

That's where Xian becomes interesting again.

I'm not saying Xian proves that every Avatar has a pocket dimension.

I'm saying his existence gives us something to think about.

He's an ancient dead Avatar who can still be encountered as an individual within a spiritual environment.

So if that's possible, then maybe the older Avatars aren't all sitting in some single storage location waiting for the current Avatar to access them.

Maybe they're scattered throughout the Spirit World.

Maybe they've developed their own spiritual domains.

Maybe they're simply existing somewhere we haven't been shown yet.

I don't know exactly what that would look like.

That's the part I'm theorising.

  1. The Millennium Drift

This is another part of the theory that I'm not saying is confirmed, but I think could explain why an Avatar like Xian might look so different from the past lives we're used to seeing.

The Avatar cycle has existed for roughly 10,000 years.

So there's obviously a massive difference between an Avatar who died relatively recently and one who died thousands of years ago.

Aang died much more recently than someone like Xian.

What if the longer an Avatar exists within the spiritual side of reality, the more disconnected they become from the physical world?

Not necessarily losing who they are, but becoming more integrated into the Spirit World.

That could explain why the oldest Avatars might exist in ways that we haven't really seen before.

Maybe they aren't just ghosts.

Maybe they aren't just memories.

Maybe they're something in between what we would normally understand as a spirit and what we understand as a past Avatar.

  1. Why Didn't Korra Just Go Find Them?

This is probably one of the

Avatar: Winds of Change | S1E9: “The Driftwood” (AU Story)

[Master Guide]

Aang and Mona crash-land on a deserted tropical atoll, completely exhausted and stranded. Crushed by the weight of their respective exiles, they turn their frustration on each other. They must learn to stop fighting like enemies and start surviving like a team.

TITLE: AVATAR: WINDS OF CHANGE

EPISODE: 09 - "THE DRIFTWOOD"

[SCENE START]

EXT. THE OPEN OCEAN - DAY

The blinding white ice of the South Pole is completely gone.

The sky is a brilliant, unbroken azure. The water below is a deep, tropical turquoise, a jarring contrast to the freezing, ash-choked sea they left behind.

But APPA is not enjoying the view.

The ten-ton sky bison is flying dangerously low, his six legs hanging limp. His breathing is a ragged, terrifying wheeze. Surviving the massive crush depth of the submerged ice-canals has completely drained him. Every beat of his massive tail is a struggle.

In the saddle, AANG (12) and MONA (15) look worse for wear. Their clothes are still damp with seawater.

Mona is sitting rigidly at the back of the saddle, clutching her spyglass, frantically scanning the empty horizon behind them for Fire Nation ironclads.

MONA

(Voice hoarse)

He's losing altitude, Aang. Pull up.

AANG

(Slumped over the reins)

He can't. He's completely empty, Mona.

Aang gently pats Appa's massive, exhausted head.

AANG (CONT'D)

Just a little further, buddy. I promise.

Mona turns around, looking forward. Through the heat-haze reflecting off the ocean, a small speck of green and brown appears on the horizon.

MONA

There. An atoll. Put us down.

EXT. THE ATOLL - MOMENTS LATER

It is a tiny, crescent-shaped island—mostly rocky shores, pale sand, and a dense patch of temperate, unfamiliar green brush in the center. The beach is littered with massive, sun-bleached logs of driftwood.

Appa doesn't land gracefully. He practically falls out of the sky.

THUD.

Sand explodes into the air as the bison skids across the beach. Appa lets out a long, shuddering sigh, his chin resting flat on the warm sand. His eyes flutter shut immediately. He is dead to the world.

Aang slides off Appa's head. His legs are like jelly. He stumbles in the soft sand, falling to his knees. He just wants to curl up and sleep for a week.

Mona, however, hits the ground running.

She leaps from the saddle, her boots kicking up sand. She doesn't take a moment to breathe. Her eyes dart across the tree line, the sky, and the ocean.

MONA

(Barking orders, rapid-fire)

Alright, we need a perimeter. The tree line is too dense, it offers too many blind spots. We set up camp right here on the open sand so we can see the shoreline.

Aang slowly pushes himself up from the sand. He ignores her, walking sluggishly toward a massive piece of driftwood a few yards away.

MONA (CONT'D)

Avatar, listen to me! If the Fire Nation tracked our trajectory out of the lower locks, they could be here before sundown. We need to establish a defensible position, secure a fresh water source, and inventory our rations.

Aang reaches the driftwood. He slumps against it, pulling his knees to his chest. He closes his eyes, trying to compress the air, trying to find his center.

But he can't. The moment he closes his eyes, he doesn't feel the warm ocean breeze. He smells the choking black smoke. He sees the apocalyptic red sky over the Southern Air Temple. He sees Gyatso staying behind in the burning Water Tribe capital, sacrificing himself so Aang could escape.

Aang covers his ears with his hands, trying to block out the phantom sounds of the siege.

MONA (CONT'D)

Are you listening to a word I'm saying?!

Mona marches over to him. Her Water Tribe fur coat is far too heavy for this climate, but she refuses to take it off. She is clinging to it. It is the only piece of her home she has left after committing treason against her Chieftain.

MONA (CONT'D)

We don't have time to nap, Aang! Get up! We need to gather firewood and set traps!

Aang slowly opens his eyes. He looks at Mona. She is pacing frantically, picking up small pieces of driftwood and tossing them into a pile with aggressive, jerky movements.

She isn't acting like a survivor. She is acting like a First Battalion Squad Leader drilling recruits in the trenches. It is a desperate, brittle facade. She is terrified of the reality of her exile, and she is trying to control the only thing she has left: him.

AANG

(Voice hollow, exhausted)

Mona... stop. Please.

MONA

(Snapping)

Stop? If we stop, we die! The Fire Lord’s armada isn't going to stop!

AANG

(Raising his voice, tears pricking his eyes)

Appa can't fly! I can't bend! We're stuck here!

Aang turns his back to her, burying his face in his arms against the driftwood.

AANG (CONT'D)

Just leave me alone.

Mona stares at his shaking shoulders. Her jaw clenches. She wants to scream at him, to pull rank, to force him to be the ultimate weapon Botak believed he was. But she looks down at her own trembling hands, realizing she has no army, no Chieftain, and no home.

MONA

(Voice cold, suppressing her own panic)

Fine. I'll secure the perimeter myself. Stay out of the tree line.

Mona turns and marches toward the brush, her heavy fur coat sweltering in the tropical sun, leaving the broken Avatar alone on the beach.

EXT. ISLAND COVE - LATER

The turquoise water is crystal clear, teeming with schools of silver fish.

MONA stands knee-deep in the surf. She has finally shed her heavy fur coat, tossing it onto the sand, but she still wears her heavy leather combat boots and tunic. She holds a long, sharpened piece of driftwood like a First Battalion ice-spear.

She locks her eyes on a large fish darting near her boots. She sinks into her stance, thrusting her free hand out to manipulate the current. Push and pull.

But the water here is wrong. It is warm, light, and lacks the heavy, dense, freezing resistance of the South Pole.

Mona pulls too hard. The warm water sloshes wildly, splashing her in the face and completely missing the fish, which darts away to safety.

Mona groans in frustration, violently throwing her makeshift spear into the surf.

EXT. JUNGLE BRUSH - CONTINUOUS

A few hundred yards away, AANG pushes through the dense, unfamiliar foliage. The air is thick and humid.

He carries a large, woven palm leaf, looking for anything edible. He spots a cluster of bright, vibrant red fruit hanging from a low branch.

Aang reaches out, his fingers brushing the smooth skin of the fruit.

Suddenly, a flock of tropical birds takes flight from the canopy above. The rapid, beating sound of their wings echoes through the trees.

To Aang, it doesn't sound like birds. It sounds like the roaring, super-charged flames of the Fire Nation.

The sunlight filtering through the green leaves hits the red fruit, casting a harsh crimson shadow across Aang's hands. He isn't in the jungle anymore. He is standing on his balcony at the Southern Air Temple, looking up at the apocalyptic red glow of Sozin’s Comet.

SOUND DESIGN: The deafening crackle of fire and the screams of the monks.

Aang gasps, stumbling backward. He drops the palm leaf. His breathing becomes frantic and shallow. He turns and sprints blindly out of the brush, fleeing the red shadows, leaving the fruit behind.

EXT. THE BEACH - SUNSET

The sun dips toward the horizon, casting long shadows over the sleeping form of Appa.

Mona sits by a pitiful, unlit pile of driftwood. She looks up as Aang emerges from the tree line, panting and completely empty-handed.

MONA

(Staring at his empty hands)

Nothing? You're a monk who spent his life foraging, and you couldn't find a single berry?

AANG

(Defensive, avoiding her eyes)

The brush is too thick. And... the fruit didn't look safe.

MONA

(Standing up, her temper flaring)

Didn't look safe? Aang, we are starving! Appa is starving! I couldn't catch anything because this ocean feels like bathwater, and you come back with excuses?

AANG

I tried, okay?!

MONA

You didn't try! You're just giving up! I am trying to keep us alive, and you are treating this like another game of air-ball!

Aang’s fists clench. The sheer exhaustion and the lingering panic from his flashback finally ignite his own temper.

AANG

(Yelling)

I'm not playing a game! I'm just a kid, Mona! I am not one of your First Battalion recruits, and you aren't a Squad Leader anymore!

The words hit Mona like a physical blow. She flinches, but Aang is too hurt to stop.

AANG (CONT'D)

You've been barking orders since we landed because you don't want to think about what happened! You committed treason! You saved my life, and now you can never go home! You're terrified, just like I am, but you're taking it out on me!

Mona's face flushes with rage and unshed tears.

MONA

(Screaming)

I gave up everything for you! My Chieftain, my city, my honor! So excuse me if I want to make sure my sacrifice actually means something!

Their voices echo loudly against the rocks, shattering the quiet sanctuary of the beach.

Suddenly, a low, guttural, terrifying GROWL vibrates through the sand.

Mona and Aang freeze. The argument instantly evaporates.

The dense brush at the edge of the tree line violently violently shakes.

Bursting from the foliage is a massive, territorial PLATYPUS BEAR. It stands eight feet tall on its hind legs, possessing the hulking, muscular body of a grizzly bear, but with a massive, snapping duck-bill and a wide, flat tail that thumps aggressively against the sand.

It lets out a deafening roar—a terrifying hybrid of a bear's bellow and a harsh, avian shriek.

The beast drops to all fours and charges, cutting Aang and Mona off from the sleeping Appa, cornering the two exhausted teenagers directly against the crashing shoreline.

EXT. THE BEACH - CONTINUOUS

The Platypus Bear lunges, its massive, flat tail thumping against the sand. It snaps its heavy, serrated bill, aiming directly for Mona.

Mona instinctively reaches out to draw water from the surf, but her arms tremble. Between the exhausting underwater escape and the stifling tropical heat, she has absolutely nothing left in the tank.

Before the beast can strike, a gust of wind slams into its snout.

AANG (12) lands lightly on a piece of driftwood between Mona and the predator.

AANG

Hey! Big guy! Over here!

The Platypus Bear roars, pivoting toward the boy. It charges.

Aang doesn't fight it. He doesn't try to freeze it or blast it away. He relies entirely on his Air Nomad agility. He backflips over the beast's snapping bill, lands on its broad, furry back, and immediately bounces off toward the shoreline.

AANG (CONT'D)

Mona! The water!

Mona watches Aang. The anger drains out of her, replaced by absolute clarity. She realizes he isn't just running away; he is leading the target.

Aang dances backward into the shallow, ankle-deep surf. The Platypus Bear charges blindly after him, splashing heavily into the turquoise water, rearing up on its hind legs for a crushing strike.

Mona steps to the edge of the wet sand. She doesn't fight the warm, unfamiliar current this time. She sinks into her stance, watching Aang's evasive rhythm.

Push and pull.

As Aang drops into a sweeping slide to dodge the bear's heavy claws, Mona thrusts her hands forward, syncing her breathing perfectly with Aang's movement.

She pulls the incoming tide, drawing a massive swell of water directly beneath the rearing Platypus Bear. As the beast’s weight shifts forward, Mona sharply pushes her wrists outward.

The water violently sweeps the beast's legs completely out from under it.

The Platypus Bear crashes into the surf with a massive splash. The retreating tide, guided by Mona's fluid motion, acts like a conveyor belt. It safely but firmly washes the heavy, confused beast fifty yards down the coastline.

The predator scrambles to its feet, shakes the saltwater from its fur, and decides it has had enough. It lets out a frustrated honk and waddles back into the dense jungle brush.

Silence returns to the beach, save for the gentle lapping of the waves.

Aang and Mona stand in the surf, both completely out of breath. They look at each other. They didn't throw a single punch. They didn't need to bark orders. They just worked perfectly, silently, together.

Mona lets out a long, exhausted exhale.

MONA

Nice distraction, Avatar.

AANG

(Smiling weakly)

Nice sweep, yourself.

EXT. THE BEACH - NIGHT

A small, quiet campfire crackles on the sand, built from dry, sun-bleached driftwood. APPA snores softly a few yards away, finally getting the deep rest he needs.

Mona sits on a log close to the fire. She is wearing her light combat tunic; her heavy, blue-and-white Water Tribe fur coat is neatly folded beside her. The rigid, militaristic posture of the First Battalion Squad Leader is completely gone. She just looks like a scared, tired fifteen-year-old girl.

Aang sits across from her, poking the embers with a stick.

MONA

(Staring into the flames)

You were right. About earlier.

Aang looks up.

MONA (CONT'D)

I committed treason against my Chieftain to get you out of that enclosure. I fought my own people. If I ever go back to the South Pole... I'll be thrown off the perimeter wall.

Mona pulls her knees to her chest, her voice dropping to a vulnerable whisper.

MONA (CONT'D)

I am terrified, Aang. I don't have a squad anymore. I don't have a home.

Aang listens quietly. He doesn't offer a cheerful platitude. He looks down at his carved wooden glider.

AANG

When we were in the city, and the Fire Nation armada started bombarding the walls... Gyatso wouldn't come with me.

Mona looks up at him.

AANG (CONT'D)

He said he had to stay behind. To protect the other Air Nomads, to make sure Chieftain Botak didn't hurt them. He stayed in a burning city to give me a chance to get away.

(Aang's voice cracks)

Every time I close my eyes, I feel like I abandoned him.

Mona stands up. She walks around the fire and sits down on the sand right next to Aang.

MONA

You didn't abandon him, Aang. He made a choice. Just like I did. We chose to protect you because you're the only one who can stop this war.

Aang looks at her. The animosity from the afternoon is completely gone.

AANG

I'm sorry I yelled at you. I know you're just trying to keep us alive.

MONA

And I'm sorry I treated you like one of Tuk's recruits. You aren't my soldier, Aang.

AANG

And you aren't my commanding officer.

Mona manages a small, genuine smile.

MONA

No. I'm not. So... what are we?

Aang looks out at the vast, uncharted ocean reflecting the moonlight. He looks back at Mona.

AANG

Teammates?

Mona nods slowly, the word settling in. She reaches out, resting a supportive hand on his shoulder.

MONA

Teammates.

The camera pulls back high into the night sky, leaving the two young exiles sitting side-by-side by the glowing driftwood fire, a tiny beacon of hope anchored against the vast, unknown world.

FADE TO BLACK.

[END OF EPISODE 9]

NEXT TIME ON AVATAR: WINDS OF CHANGE…

Desperate for supplies, Aang and Mona risk everything by venturing into a lawless, floating black market. Meanwhile, back at the South Pole, Chieftain Botak tightens his brutal grip on the Air Nomad hostages, forcing a loyal perimeter guard to make a dangerous choice.

hi i'm reading Forever Girl by Statlitswan on Ao3 and it's a really cute au where aang and katara broke up a few years after the war ended and then they're reunited (Its really awesome, here's a link for those curious https://archiveofourown.org/works/89450496?view\\_full\\_work=true) and I can't get enough of it but it's unfinished as of right now 💔. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a slowburn kataang au that I can read? Or any well written alternative universes? Thank you \^\^!!!

Summeary : Her body then transformed into a living puppet , a Joo Dee , a controlled by invisible strings. This puppet forced a smile, spoke sweet words, and served diligently in the capital, welcoming intellectuals, officials, and foreign guests. Everything was perfect, everything went smoothly, but it felt completely empty. And oneday she was awaken from that "dream" it would be best if she didn't let him find out she was no longer that puppet, the best thing to do............ is acting like a Joo Dee.

{Read the Prologue & Chapter One on AO3}

".....
Everything in the room abruptly froze. It was as if an invisible, icy hand had squeezed her heart, causing its rhythm to violently skip a beat before lodging tightly in her throat.

Right there, on the brass coat rack next to the wardrobe, a Dai Li agent uniform hung meticulously, almost mercilessly neat and perfect. The dark, somber blue interwoven with the characteristic earthy yellow of the Underworld appeared in the dim light of the bedroom like a phantom standing guard patiently. Every stitch, every sharp fold on the broad shoulders exuded absolute, cold, and unforgiving authority. It wasn't merely fabric or stitches; it embodied the rules, regulations, and the ironclad administrative system of Ba Sing Se. It was a symbol of the law, the ghosts, the silent jailers lurking, robbing people of their memories and freedom, or as she had once been. The extreme neatness, the wrinkle free uniform, contrasted sharply with the disheveled, jet black hair and the unguarded, relaxed demeanor of the man beside her.

Her gaze slowly, horrifyingly, slid down to the small table beside her bed. The distinctive Dai Li agent's hat sat there, square and straight. The sturdy, dark brim of the hat cast an angular shadow over the ornate crown and fluffy, soft tassels, creating a stark yet menacing contrast on the table, resembling an invisible cage slowly descending to imprison her last desperate hope of escape.

The survival instinct in her brain screamed ferociously, commanding her to stand up immediately, to dash for the door, to flee this tiger's den at any cost. Yet, her legs were now as heavy as lead, rooting firmly to the floorboards, utterly rejecting any command to move. Absolute terror had transmuted into a liquid poison coursing through her veins, blockading every nerve and freezing her body in place. She could not run. A profound and primal cowardice took root in her mind: just one tiny sound from the bedsheets, just a single shift from the man, and those dark, earthen rock gloves would instantly constrict around her throat. Or worse, she would be dragged into the lightless dungeons of Lake Laogai, brainwashed and turned into a soulless, perfectly obedient doll again.

In a state of total paralysis induced by terror, she could not move, but her eyes, as if possessed by demons, were entirely incapable of tearing themselves away from observing the sleeper beside her.........."

Request Might be a long shot

I've recently got back into ATLA and been struggling to find a fic I read a long time ago. It was long, well over 100k words, and followed a firebending OC of nobility. I think the name had something to do with dragons but I know that can't help much given the premise. I remember a coming of age ceremony the MC practiced for being in front of the firelord, and zuko and azula being almost younger sibling figures for the Mc. If anyone has any ideas lmk.
