Question Beginner boxing classes?

anyone know of a good option? Id kind of prefer it to be a class within a gym if possible. Dont rly feel like I need to train as a beginner with these professional ppl and feel like it would be a bit cheaper. Anyways, open to any suggestions still.

Been to a handful of places

If you are looking for JUST BOXING.

We have maybe 4 places that will get you prepared if your goal is to compete (if I missed your gym I just don't know you, and you might be legit )

  1. Duke City Underdogs. This place rocks. It's my favorite boxing gym I've ever been to, the classes are hard at first, the place is kind of small and stinky, but these guys know fucking boxing. It's a no nonsense gym where they have like 1 treadmill, 1 other assorted gym machine of the day, and lots of bags to hit. They have classes, and many of the pupils are children, but everyone shows up and gets to work. If I still lived nearby it would still be my daily gym. Also pretty damn affordable, and they have donation equipment here (I've donated a handful of gloves, wraps, and boxing shoes here because they fucking rip)

  2. Sigala's Tae Kwon Do. I've never been here, but we've cross trained with some folks from here, and they always held their own. I know they probably have a schedule, and I bet they have boxing days, MMA days, Jiu Jits Days, and TKD days.

  3. Jack Candelaria Community & Boxing Training Center. I have seen GREAT fighters training here, I have not been here either, but every time we've cross trained with one of these dudes they are LEGIT.

  4. Rosales Kickboxing, I haven't been here either but crosstraining with their folks, they always have crazy cardio, and kinda wacky mechanics. Our team usually would start by piecing them up in sparring and then they would always pull ahead in the later rounds just because they were energizer rabbits. I'm not sure what their class schedule is like, or if they offer pure boxing, but it could be worth a look depending on where you live.

If you are looking for anything else

  1. Republiq is fine. They'll get you in shape if you push yourself, and show up consistently. They have an extended other gym section too if you want to lift, or run or whatever. You are not going to get good at fighting here though as most folks in the gym are just throwing arms and legs at the bags, technique be damned, and the technique critique is non-existent. They have boxing, kick-boxing, and general fitness classes here. Affordableish.

  2. Jackson Acoma, this is if you're truly a beginner, these dudes are really really great dudes, but it is all kick-boxing and jiu-jitsu. Nick Urso and the team here are really nice people though, and if you're beginning, they will make sure you are on the right track. They're patient, but know how to encourage you to push yourself, and the mixed class is a good way to get experience with all different levels of competitors. I have gotten to train with people on their first day, and with people who are fighting in the UFC here. Great gym, but not boxing specific. Kinda pricey. I left because I obliberated my knee on some stairs at work, and didn't want to kick anymore

  3. Fit NHB. Good gym, they work people hard as hell, again not boxing specific, but you get what you work for here. I did get a good workout in here consistently, but I was always feeling like they paid more attention to folks who were promising, and or had been there a long time. It was hard to break through here, and because of that I only came to about 2 weeks of class here. About the same price as jackson/acoma.

Edited to add: 4. United fit. Much more MMA oriented, but they work very hard, and have lots of other gym equipment. That said I have known a handful of people who have worked out here and torn things which always scares me

I also love to box, and teach the very very little that I know, so if you ever wanna meet in a park just to go over the basics of step punch, jab straight, hmu in a DM and I'd be down to bring extra equipment for that as well.

P.S I don't know everywhere in NM, I've heard good things about Elevation, and Dark Haven Studio.

I didn't include it up top either, but any Gracie Barra school is absolutely legit, and they really take care of their students if you're interested in Jiu Jitsu, but obviously they only do Jiu Jitsu.

Sanchez Brothers Boxing also, I've never been but I feel the need to bring it up just because it's in a different part of town than most and I've always heard good things about it.

I can't ever get them on the phone to learn more about hours or price or actual location, or if they'll allow someone in the gym who isn't in a class (basically open mat) so I've never dropped by

Elevation!! Truly all levels - from day 1 beginners to active competitors. Coaching quality is super high. If you’re actually looking to learn some skills this is the place. Don’t worry about being new

Boxing gyms are kinda your only choice since you need equipment to train. I know some traditional gyms have bunching bags but that’s all they have and I doubt they’d let someone bring their own stuff and train you there. I guess you could find someone that’ll train you in their house but imo you should just bite the bullet and take classes at a boxing gym.

I'll be honest, almost every BJJ gym in the area will have some sort of boxing and or kickboxing curriculum. Most places also allow drop-ins/a free week, I'd take advantage of it and ask any and all questions you have before making a decision

I know you said boxing but just to throw it out there CNM offers a kickboxing class which is probably the cheapest option
