Fulfillment Center TUS2 – this cannot keep going unchallenged

The phone registration, extended screening and clear bottle/bag requirements are a return to previous policies, which are happening across all buildings in a staggered deployment. Entry screening has never been a thing at most buildings because the screening was always about deterring and catching theft.
Edit: well, phone registration is only halfway-ish to pre-covid policy which was no phones at all past security.

That’s the standard defense.
Calling it a return to previous policy doesn’t change the fact that associates are the ones stuck with longer exits, stickers, X-rays, and dumping their water after a leadership-level failure. The people who didn’t cause the problem are still the ones paying for it.Calling it a return to previous policy doesn’t hold up when it’s been four or five years since that was normal.

I'm just pointing out that this isn't because someone at your building stole a phone. The policy change for phones has been coming for a long time, some buildings already had sticker registration during the tail end of anti-covid measures.
The actual dumping water part is weird, but also at my building water bottles have always been required to be clear. Anyone with clear bag and/or bottle can use the divesting lane instead of the x-ray lane. Our security exit times were only a bit longer on the first couple days of the x-ray machine being turned back on as people got used to it. Your building specifically does seem to be fucking this up with the dumping water requirement, a sealed bottle shouldn't be expected to leak (and it'll be in a bin anyway).

You’re still missing the point.
Even if the phone policy was already planned, the timing at TUS2 lined up right after a leadership theft, and forcing people to dump their water is pure nonsense. A sealed bottle doesn’t need to be emptied just in case the machine gets a little wet. That’s not security, that’s just extra hassle for associates.
Your building handling it cleaner doesn’t change how badly TUS2 is rolling it out.5
u/ToraenNakure 7d ago
I was agreeing on the water point. I've not heard of any other building doing that. Everywhere else it's just: you need a clear bottle. Also no one has cared when I put my bottles in the bin with my other stuff (often it's in my bag).
Your leadership may have moved up the timetable a bit for the change based on that theft, but it was definitely coming very soon regardless. Peak is right around the corner and they weren't going to deploy this in the middle of that (or wait until next year).

Yeah you’re right on the water part. Haven’t heard of other buildings making people dump it either.
And fair point on the timing — Peak was coming either way so they were going to roll it out soon. Still, when Peak hits and the lines get longer, a lot of the same people are going to be right back here complaining about it.

I think it is adorable that every response to comments that disagree with you are dramatic clichés.
" That’s the standard defense. You’re doing a lot of work to downplay it. Classic response. You’re still missing the point. Always the same line"
Yeah we all know who the real problem is!

a building that runs on attendance and rate cannot absorb prolonged disruption without it showing up in the metrics they are measured on.
Considering that over 80% of associates have time off (UPT/PTO) balances of <20h at any point in time I'd say yeah the impact is not going to be very large.
Building leadership is also not held accountable for any metric related to attendance. The labor planner's in charge of that. If I fail to hit production because of attendance, that's the easiest bridge ever because it's viewed as someone else's problem.

The exit screening is normal. My site went right back to it once all the Covid restrictions were lifted.
I have a Samsung S24 Ultra, got it when it came out in 2024, I had to put a sticker on it when I got it.
None of this retaliation against your site or theft. This is company wide. Be happy that your site is rolling it out years after other sites.

Boohoo then quit
-5
u/AdRegular4743 7d ago
Always the same line.
“Boohoo then quit” is the go-to when someone doesn’t want to acknowledge the actual point. Pointing out a bad policy isn’t the same as demanding the company change everything for me. It’s just noticing that associates keep getting the inconvenience while leadership doesn’t.8
u/DrewPesos 7d ago
By the 0 upvotes, it looks like your the only one having the problem 🤷♂️ again its not your company, if you dont like the rules scroll to the bottom of the app and hit that button for us. Noone is holding you back stick it to the man.

u/AdRegular4743 7d ago
Having low upvotes doesn’t make the point disappear. ‘Just quit’ is still the same non-answer. Pointing out that associates carry the inconvenience isn’t the same as demanding the company change everything.”

u/DrewPesos 7d ago
If everyone did what they were suppose to it would be a breeze. Sounds like your site as well as yourself has a big main character problem. Also if you dont like it use your time and leave earlier. Noone is making you stay untill clock off

being number one in your region isn’t much of anything btw. do you understand how many directors/regions there are?
now, your site could be not spending their ER funds correctly which is another story entirely.

also half of the shit you’re referring to is network policy not your building specific, to cry this much is lowkey crazy
-1
u/AdRegular4743 7d ago
You’re doing a lot of work to downplay it.
Calling it network policy and saying “crying is crazy” doesn’t change the fact that associates are the ones dealing with longer exits, stickers, X-rays, and dumping water. Whether it came from the network or the building, the people who didn’t cause the problem are still the ones paying for it.4
u/Traditional-Fan5485 7d ago
this was policy pre-covid, they’re just going back to the normal. no downplaying here just brutal honesty. just because you feel like it’s inconvenient doesn’t mean they have to listen. yes, it’s extremely mundane but it’s the companies policy that you work for?? if you dislike it there are other jobs available where you don’t need to do those things.
edit: to add on, this is better then before. you were not allowed a phone whatsoever if you weren’t leadership prior to covid changing this.
-2
u/AdRegular4743 7d ago
Classic response.
“It’s company policy” and “if you don’t like it there are other jobs” is the easiest way to shut down any criticism without actually addressing it. The policy can still be excessive even if it’s network-wide or pre-COVID. Pointing that out isn’t “crying,” it’s noticing that associates keep absorbing the inconvenience while leadership doesn’t.7
u/Traditional-Fan5485 7d ago
i mean, do you expect a corporation to bend over backwards for you? very dumb i guess. the policy won’t change no matter how much you complain, i guess if you just wanted an echo chamber then you can achieve it that way. 😭
i also don’t know what you expect by giving criticism regarding the policy on reddit, that does nothing whatsoever. go post on your VOA board. (which equally would do nothing but hey, at least they need to respond to you there - and feedback does get forwarded upwards! acted on is another question.)
note, i think it’s incredibly stupid policy myself but you’re expecting far too much from Amazon.
leadership is also held to the same standards, or should be for all cellphones, waterbottles, bags, etc.

We’ve been told we were the best building in the country, in the top five and at the bottom of productivity in the same week. It’s just a mind game.
1
u/AdRegular4743 7d ago
Exactly. It’s just a line they throw out. Nothing changes when they say it, no raise, no real recognition, just the same process with extra steps. Calling it a mind game is accurate.

u/EuphoricScratch6915 7d ago
I’m in a network located in TN, and we’ve had the same screening practices for a minute now. Idk about the liquid dump part tho.

u/FullMetalKaiju 6d ago
Just start leaving and then report you missed a punch after you're screened.

Hate to tell you this they say that about every amazon lol it’s their little morale boost

u/AdRegular4743 7d ago
Yeah I figured. Still doesn’t make it any less annoying when they use that line and then hit you with extra screening as the actual “reward.”
4
u/Wild-Wasabi-1199 7d ago
It was already a thing pre-covid and atleast they’re letting us bring in the phones before they wouldn’t let you bring them in plus some manager stole like $10mil worth of stuff at one fc
-3
u/AdRegular4743 7d ago
Blows my mind that anyone would defend this policy.
You’d rather be treated like a criminal on the way out than just admit the process is excessive. That’s how deep the loyalty runs for some people. If you’re that attached to a company that puts stickers on your phone and makes you dump your water after a leadership failure, I don’t need to hear the defense.
6
u/Sying13 7d ago
You keep saying this was a leadership failure. It’s a coincidence. That’s it.
Sorry about the water thing. My site will allow us to pass the water bottles to the security people of the machines. There’s one guy at our site who makes a big deal out of it. I typically just ignore him. Not saying you should.
One more thing about being treated like a criminal. Too many people steal. You’d be surprised how many people steal. Blaming Amazon or any company for protecting itself and preventing theft is honestly mind boggling to me.
1
u/AdRegular4743 7d ago
Calling it a coincidence is convenient.
Whether the timing was planned or not, the process still lands on associates — stickers, longer lines, and dumping water. Theft happens, nobody’s arguing that. The issue is that the response treats every associate like the problem while the people who actually had the power to prevent it or respond better don’t carry the same inconvenience.1
u/Sying13 6d ago
Your leaders don’t go through the same process? Every place I’ve ever been, the managers and PAs have to have the same stickers and go through the same metal detectors.
You just don’t see us managers waiting in lines because we have to stay later than you all anyway.
And I don’t care if it’s convenient or not. The fact is the matter is setting the extra security up takes time. This whole thing was set in motion at Amazon forever ago. It just so happened that it was your site’s turn to go when something happened. That’s a coincidence.
Sadly, multiple people have pointed it out to you. So just keep believing what you’re believing. Keep thinking the sky is purple when it’s blue.
