Hi all
I’m a woman in my early thirties learning how to swim. I’ve enrolled in a structured program, 30min once a week, but feel like I’m not making progress. The instructor says I should practice several times a week, and I’m just scared to drown somewhere in a pool by myself lol.
So, I’m looking for people in a similar age group who are learning to swim or are already established swimmers who don’t mind me tagging along 🙂.
I’m looking for people near the Medical center, Pearland, Clearlake, or Webster.
Thanks!

Hey everyone! I’m moving to Houston in mid-September to start a new job, and I’ll be working 6 days a week, with Sunday being my only day off.
I’d really like to start volunteering and getting involved in my new community once I move. Does anyone know of any volunteer programs or organizations that have opportunities on Sunday mornings? I’m specifically looking for something that isn’t church-related.
It would also be a huge plus if it’s something where I could meet people around my age (20s) and hopefully make some new friends along the way!
I’d really appreciate any recommendations or suggestions. Thanks in advance! 😊

Hi Everyone, I am a 25 yr old guy that is planning on relocating to Houston soon. I will be in Houston this Thursday-Saturday. Would anyone from this group be interested in grabbing coffee or a drink? I enjoy talking and meeting different people and would like someone’s perspective of what’s it’s like to live in Houston. I will be staying inside the loop, so open to any recommendations as well! Thanks in advance!

My company is too cheap to provide parking for work. I have to go in 5 days a week and am looking to minimize parking expenses.
I'm in from 9-5 M-F, does anyone know which lots are the best value, ive tried looking around and prices vary wildly, and most aren't posted online, some have early bird specials, etc.
anyone else in this situation and know a good spot to park daily?

Hello I’ve got a lot to ask and I might not be the best at explaining things but I’m gonna try my best. I recently left Houston back to California. Currently staying with my mom. LA is so expensive and I’ve decided that I want to go back. What can I do to get an apartment if my credit is 400? My old job is welcoming me back so employment isn’t a problem. I may or may not have someone to co sign with me but they live in California. Their credit is good and income would make up for 3 times the rent so my question is will their income count if it’s not coming from Texas? My income would be coming from Texas. I’m seeing some studios/ one bedrooms for about 6-700 dollars so I and my co-signer could definitely afford it.

Hello! Please drop your estate sale company recommendations. This summer I spent a lot of time going to estate sales. I love the dig and it’s also now my hobby to pick up cool interesting stuff. There is a huge BUT!!!! Before estate sales were a big thing, I recall going to a a few and seeing really good pricing. Now that I’ve began going again, everything is marked up to eBay prices. I went to one recently and their staff were looking at selling comps online to price items at the house. I’ve noticed this only in Houston. I recently went to estate sales in Dallas and San Antonio and their sales are WAAAAYYYYY better and cheaper. I was pleasantly surprised. These estate companies are taking the thrill away from buying at these sales. I’ve taken a small break but would love to start again and rather go to estate companies that have reasonable pricing. Please drop their names. TIA

Hello everyone, I lived in the Houston area (spring/woodlands) for 18 years I moved back in 2015. My wife and I will be visiting family from this friday to Monday afternoon, she has never been, what are some things we should do she really wants to go to moody gardens in galveston which we definitely plan on doing but what are some other things we should do or restraunts we should try it's been 11 years since I've lived there so my mind is blank.

Hi, I’m currently in Jakarta and need to get my personal laptop from Stafford/Houston, Texas to Jakarta.
Looking for someone traveling from the US to Jakarta and arriving Sept 12–14 who can bring it with them.
I can arrange and pay for getting the laptop to you in the US, and I will pay you for bringing it to Jakarta.
If you’re traveling around those dates and can help, please DM me. Thanks!

I love trying new food spots around the city, but my friends are often busy during the week and sometimes I just want to sit at a bar, get a cocktail and some good food with a book or my phone without feeling out of place.
Any low-key recommendations where the staff is friendly and the vibe is chill for solo diners on a random Tuesday or Wednesday night?

This might just be a me problem because I never left my hometown after college, but does anyone else feel like Houston is HUGE yet somehow you run into someone you know everywhere you go??
Normally I don’t care, but when you’re part of a community where everyone somehow knows everyone’s business, it gets annoying 😭 Like damn can I go somewhere without running into someone’s cousin, coworker, family friend, etc.
Is this a Houston thing? A Muslim/Arab/South Asian community thing? Or do people from other communities here experience this too? I’m genuinely curious lol

Hey I’ve never posted on Reddit this will be a first for me. M/24. I just recently moved to Houston from Maine a couple weeks ago, big change I know. I go to UHD, Obviously I don’t know anyone down here so I’m looking to meet new people and make new friends. I live downtown and mainly enjoy playing sports, going to parks, runs, but I’m pretty much down for any and everything even I’m very outgoing and spontaneous. I’m not sure how to text on here yet but I’m sure I’ll figure it out but definitely feel free to reach out and I’ll respond.

My usual go-to at B&N closes way too early, so I'm looking for alternative places. The later, the better.

Hello! I’m a 25-year-old guy who recently moved to Houston. I work for a MNC and have a stable career.
I consider myself well-behaved, respectful, and well-mannered. I’m looking to make new Indian friends, as I’d love to learn from their life experiences and build healthy, meaningful friendships.
If you’re interested, we can chat, get to know each other, and maybe meet sometime to see where things go.

Any recommendations for a store that will help fit me with running/walking shoes that work for my particular gait and pronation? I've tried Fleet Feet a couple of times and spent a couple of hundred dollars there, but still end up with shin splints and knee pain after a couple of weeks of using their recommendation. I've gotten to the point where I'm just doing miles of walking in my Chacos, because they don't hurt me, but I know that can't be good for me long term.
Suggestions welcome
