Question I need help

I have a BS in physics. Got an MS a year ago in BME. I have no work experience other than customer service. I have been applying for BME entry level jobs even technician roles for a year and can’t even land one interview. I live in Dearborn Michigan.
I’m thinking of changing careers. What would you advise me.

Hey so a year with zero interviews on that background says it’s your search strategy, not your qualifications. Physics BS plus BME MS is solid on paper.
A couple of likely issues. Dearborn is not a biomed hub, it’s automotive country, so if you’re only applying locally you’re fishing in a small pond. And if you are applying cold online with no networking, you are probably getting filtered by ATS before a human sees it. I have some tips for you if you want to message me.
My advice would be to look at medical device companies for quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, or regulatory roles, not just titles that say “biomedical engineer.” Look into CBET certification if you want the technician path specifically, it’s a real credential that helps a lot. And get an actual person in the industry to look at your resume, that alone can change everything.

Any intro into a medical device manufacturer would be beneficial. Operations/quality probably being the most available positions-wise, and will value your degree with little exp. Then you can gain some experience and move on or within where you’re at to get to PD/R&D or whatever flavor of BME you’re ultimately looking for. On LinkedIn you can filter by industry and put medical device showing you only positions by companies labeled as such.

Can I ask why you got an MS in BioMed and not Nuclear Medicine or Medical Physics? It sounds like you took a wrong turn for the jobs that pay 200k and are looking for the ones that pay 70k.

my thoughts exactly. like I've got my AAS in electronics and make 70k. If i had a Masters there is no way in hell id be a technician.

Are you searching field service too or just looking for in house I don't like steris but they are always hiring take that with a grain of salt cause you will figure out why they are always hiring lol. But gotta start somewhere. According to their page they currently have a repair tech job open in Livonia not sure if that's close or not.

Get your foot in somewhere, call local hospitals/clinics and ask to speak to their biomed department. Think about going for your PA? I wouldn't want to be taking anymore loans out for school at this point though...

Sending resumes on the job apps is fine. But sometimes getting dressed up for an interview with resume in hand and showing up at a hospital asking for a job sometimes works. I know it did for me and i only have applied science degrees for biomed.

Try Siemens-Healthineers linac division. They’ve been hiring pretty heavily in the US
