Anime Man, I really felt like shoving Umezawa's character right in Horikoshi's face. Spoiler

It’s just something that crossed my mind while re-reading the Hajime no Ippo manga; amidst the dirty jokes, the dragged-out romance, and the fantastic boxing panels, I really love looking back at Umezawa’s story.

I marked this as a spoiler just to be safe, but it’s a story from the 80s—you can easily find summaries on YouTube or check the wiki—so it’s fine to read.

He used to be a bully who intimidated Ippo. He enjoyed making Ippo feel lonely and isolated—which gave him a sense of power, especially since Ippo was so passive—and he’d mock Ippo’s family fishing business and the smell Ippo picked up from helping out at home. But after Ippo became a boxer and denied doing it for revenge—showing he could have easily crushed them if he wanted to—Umezawa started following him around. At first, it was just to mock him, but it eventually turned into genuine admiration and friendship.

He helped Ippo with the fishing boats, even sat at the dinner table with Ippo and his mother, and supported his boxing career; in return, Ippo supported him and served as the inspiration for him to become a manga artist.

Umezawa feels bad about everything he did, even after apologizing and being forgiven by Ippo and his mother; you can see the shame and remorse when he remembers how he used to mistreat Ippo.

Then I think about Bakugou and his arc while rewatching clips and moments from the anime on Netflix, and... yeah. It feels redundant to complain about the lack of consequences, but damn—Umezawa has a more satisfying redemption arc (extending a bit past graduation) than Bakugou does.

Anyway, I just wanted to get that off my chest and maybe win over a few more fans for Hajime no Ippo. Now I’m just waiting for the rage and the Bakugou fans to show up in droves.

Anime Hot and very very old and late take: Deku forgave Bakugo way too fast and shouldn’t have revealed his secret that early to him.

Post image
0 Upvotes

Bakugo had been beating and bullying Deku since they were kids upto highschool and into UA and probably had no problem in killing crippling him if he really wanted from the looks of there first few fights.Bakugo told Deku kill himself, bullied him for something Deku couldn’t control and had an ego higher that Barge Khalifa. And the moment he sees Deku use his quirk he loses his shit wondering why he hid or if he was looking down on him.But why should it matter to you bruh? You told him to kill himself.Early season Bakugo had zero and I mean ZERO redeeming quality. He did not deserve Deku forgiveness or have the privilege to know the truth to mend his fragile ego.If Deku had never gotten his quirk Bakugo would have continued to be a dick to him and probably would have went way longer without changing himself.Only reason for his change is Deku getting a good quirk. The anime should have humbled his ahh more.More whopping from Allmight should have doen the trick.

Manga Spoilers Does Stars and Stripes use 3 rules when fighting Shigaraki? Spoiler

Post image

Has this ever been explained? I can’t quite make sense of it.

1) The atmosphere solidifies at 1000 times her size.
2) She converges the lasers and is able to hold them.
3) She continuing to maintain her physical enhancements (at all times).

The chapters never indicate that she releases her physical enhancements at any time during the fight. I would assume that, even if she does release her physical enhancement, her body would shrink down to a non-enhanced size. No rules have lingering effects to my knowledge.

Manga Bakugo Was Never a Character Who Needed “Consequences” (Deku fans revenge fantasy as I prefer to call it) Spoiler

The problem with this fandom/mostly Deku fans is that some people reduce Bakugo’s entire character and then assume that the only satisfying conclusion for him is to be beaten down by the self-insert MC as part of some revenge fantasy for Deku fans.

But that fundamentally misunderstands Bakugo.

Bakugo’s character was never about bullying Deku or eventually apologizing to him. Those things are part of his history, but they are not the core of his character. Bakugo has always been portrayed as an exceptionally talented person who works relentlessly to improve himself, pushes the people around him to become stronger even if harshly, and refuses to settle for mediocrity. Even when that means challenging himself.

Reducing his entire character to “he was mean to Deku 😭, therefore he needs consequences” completely misses the point of his development.

If you believe that a character who said a bad things to the precious little MC can only achieve “redemption” by being punished, humiliated, or defeated for the self insert fans satisfaction, then you fundamentally misunderstood Bakugo. That isn't a problem with Bakugo's writing, it’s a problem with how you chose to interpret his character.

Ironically, if there is a character whose passivity is more deserving of criticism, it’s Deku. His tendency to remain passive throughout much of the story is far more significant to the narrative; including his response to Bakugo’s death, than anything people try to pin on Bakugo.

Bakugo was never meant to be a character whose arc amounted to “get punished" His arc is about ambition, self-improvement, rivalry, humility, and learning how to become a better hero without losing the drive that made him exceptional in the first place.

And that is precisely why Bakugo is easily the best-written character in the entire series.

And if we are talking about revenge fantasies, my fantasy is Deku getting beaten to a pulp not because of any excuses that Bakugo haters come from when they say these things about Bakugo but because I simply hate Deku and unlike you people I can admit the issue exactly as what it is

Anime A friendly reminder (NO HATE): Bakugo bullied Izuku for 10 years.

Thumbnail

DISCLAIMER: I love both Izuku and Bakugo and ALL CHARACTERS OF MHA (Except for Mineta and AFO for obvious reasons).
Starts when both are ~4-5 years old when Bakugo finds out that Izuku is quirkless and stops when Izuku tries to save Bakugo from the sludge villain/ when they entered U.A.

Both physically, verbally, and mentally. And not only does he bully Izuku, but spreading the hate to other students as well. Like when he used his quirk to attack Izuku when both were kids. And when he told Izuku to “Take a swan dive off a roof”.

And I don’t understand how Izuku can still admire and be friends with Bakugo. I mean Horikoshi did explain it, but I still find it strange. Like the only emotions Izuku has for being bullied are…fear, like I thought Izuku is brave and can stand up for justice? Like did Izuku once seek help from his parents (mom) or teachers? Like 10 YEARS?

Also, no one in the MHA universe can see the problem with Bakugo? I thought that when he got kidnapped by the villains, people were afraid that he would become a villain, so why is no one seeing that the bullying is a problem? And U.A, do I need to explain?

Please, someone, tell me what’s with the bullying thing? This needs some explaining.

Manga Spoilers Dark Shadow is Obsessed with Godzilla Spoiler

Hear me out.

It's quite possible that Dark Shadow has a favorite hero, and it isn't the same type of hero that Fumikage looks up to (Batboy, Dark Crystal, etc). It's possible that Dark Shadow loves the MHA universe's version of Godzilla. Want some proof?

Here is a panel of Fumikage and Shadow in bed as kids. Apparently this is when Fumikage realized that he needed to sleep with a nightlight, because otherwise Dark Shadow would get violent at night. This is Shadow telling Fumikage that it's okay to sleep with the light on, because he knows he gets carries away in the dark.

Do you see the toys behind them? It's easier to make out in the Manga than the anime. There is some sort of bird plush that looks like a grown-up kung-fu Fumikage hero, and...

...a Godzilla!

It's possible that it's separate toys for the separate kids. Is this what Dark Shadow sees itself as?

Dark Shadow's plush is Godzilla
Anime version of Tokoyami's dorm
Manga version of Tokoyami's dorm

^Here is something else that's telling. In the anime, Tokoyami's dorm is dark and creepy. You can kind of make out a poster in the corner that says, "DIE DIE." However, (sorry for the small pic) in the manga, we see that it is, in fact, a poster that says "DIE DIE" with Godzilla on it. We assume this poster is Fumikage's - but what if it's Dark Shadow's poster? This is Shadow's room as well! In a way, it's not as gothy as the rest of Fumikage's stuff.

So assuming the idea that the Godzilla fanboy worship is Dark Shadow, check out Dark Shadow's preferred form.

Shadowzilla!

...and here are some pictures I yanked of different versions of Godzilla:

Red, glowing eyes and Dark Shadow Claws

...the body shape! The glowing eyes (sometimes red, sometimes yellow just like Dark Shadow)! The claws! Canonically, Dark Shadow is supposed to be a Myna bird. However, Shadow can also change its shape to an extent. The more Full Release Dark Shadow gets, the more it resembles Godzilla. We even see that Dark Shadow has the option of wings, but Shadow's wings are only visible in the Full Release state, and Shadow keeps them small and subtle in exchange for looking AS MUCH LIKE GODZILLA AS POSSIBLE.

We never see or hear Fumikage talk about Godzilla, but we see his sentient quirk have Godzilla toys/merch and act like Godzilla every chance it gets.

Also something funny - some people have accepted an idea that Dark Shadow is actually a girl, and this comes from Chapter 84 of Smash! where Dark Shadow is turned into a human, and it's basically Tokoyami's bratty little sister.

For the original Godzilla: The studio Toho used gender-neutral pronouns like "it" because they viewed kaiju (giant monsters) as forces of nature rather than animals with traditional sexes. The Japanese Godzilla is genderless, but in the West he was considered male. In Godzilla 1998 however, Godzilla apparently laid eggs. This made many accept the idea that Godzilla could have been canonically female, even though some say that Godzilla laid eggs asexually.

What this means is that if you're out there on the "Dark Shadow could be a girl" train because of Smash!...well, Godzilla could also be a girl as well! Or at least, genderless. There's something else they have in common.

Anyway, Dark Shadow only begins to seriously take new, streamlined forms when Tsukuyomi (Their hero name) learns to fly, and especially after the timeskip. Perhaps the initial S-class ranking for chuunibyou (eighth-grader syndrome/edgelord) is for both Dark Shadow and Fumikage as well, since Dark Shadow seems to slowly grow out of its Godzilla obsession as a kid.

Dark Shadow at least grew out of its Godzilla phase 8 years later

*Edit: Some awesome person from GOAToyami told me about Godzillo! Thank you! Godzillo

Anime GENUINE QUESTION: Like, as we all know, Momo transfers her body fat and lipid into things, does that mean if she’s healthily chubby or fat, she would be way stronger? And how exactly does her quirk work?

Thumbnail

I still don't understand how her quirks work; she clearly creates things much heavier than herself, so where does that extra weight come from? Like that railgun in the final war is clearly heavier than her, so how on earth can she pull it out?

Like does her body have extreme metabolism that can instantly turn nutrients into fat? Or like, she can compact her fat to make it look smaller?

Misc. Monoma is a God.

Post image

Just saw a recent post about Monoma. I just wondered if Twice is still alive at the Final War Arc. Just imagine if Twice was NOT killed, but captured like Kurogiri. Imagine if Monoma managed to copy Twice's quirk, triggered Sad Man's Parade and essentially copied all the villians quirk and use it against them.

Monoma can make a copy of himself using the Water so his eyes will not dry out - or better yet - make a couple of dozen Monoma's with Eraser Heads and look at Shiragaki at all angles. Heck, he can make 50 Monomas with Eraser Head, and use the Warp Gate and scatter it on all the locations of the villians and erase all of it. If the 5 mins is almost up, Duplicate himself again and copy the quirk.

Or is there maybe a limit to Twice's Double quirk IF it was copied by Monoma.

Misc. Bakugo Should Not Have Been Praised

We all understand why his personality is the way it is, right? From his home life and the people around him, he’s always been praised and raised up as a potential Hero-To-Be. His ego kept growing and growing and his insecurity and anger at Izuku for not getting a quirk wasn’t kept in check since everyone viewed Deku as just Quirkless and therefore useless, while he himself as someone worth praising.

But like, Bakugo’s quirk concept is villainous to a T. There’s a bit where his quirk first unlocks as a kid where his hands are sparking and his kindergarten class and teachers are all standing around him praising him for having ’Such a cool quirk!’.

Regardless of what kind of kids you have to deal with, there ain’t no way in HELL any of those teachers didn’t immediately go: ”Oh fuck this kid is a walking terrorist.”.

Like, out of ANYONE you could potentially influence or meet, how is the person with bombs for hands not considered a potential Villain? Like not even considering personality, just from his quirk I can see him being labeled as an At Risk Youth.

Goddamn Shinso out here talking about how he’s treated as lesser cause his quirk is conditional mind control, when Katsuki can fucking kill an entire shopping plaza on a hot day in June if he just so feels like it.

Edit:
I don’t fucking care about what you think about Bakugo’s character or personality. Like him or not, that’s not what this post is about.
I’m asking how a society as prejudice as MHA’s views Katsuki’s quirk as Heroic when explosions themselves are inherently not viewed that way in any form. Yes I understand that fire quirks are dangerous too but that’s not the point. Katsuki is celebrated because of his quirk when in a community like that it would normally be ostracized.

That is ALL I’m saying. Not any personal beliefs or opinions about quirk morality or ethics.

Context: Ever since Chisikai had put her Grandfather in a coma, he had ruthlessly tortured her simply for her quirk, calling her an infected mistake. Always hurting those around her. For a while Eri had believed him, until she one day snuck into the wing containing private files. After doing some searching, she found the true horror that was the plans for a quirk erasing drug, and they were using her body as a labrat. It was then something deep within her snapped, and in mere hours the Shie Hassaikai were no more. The only thing she had taken were the few samples of the quirk drug and Chisikai's unconcious body. She then put her Grandfather out of his misery, reported the scene and fled.

Now here she was, 25 years old and living as a vigilante turned villain.

--- My Hero: The Birth of a Cyborg ---

The Frozen Philosopher

"Listen up, Shoto.

You were born with a great curse.

The curse of the Todoroki name."

Endeavor's final words before his disappearance.

In this world, the Todoroki clan was not created through a hero's ambition, but through survival.

A rare bloodline born with the ability to manipulate both extreme cold and heat became one of the most hunted families in the world.

Their Quirks, considered priceless due to their immense power, made them a favorite among rulers. Leading to generations of trafficking, exploitation, and fear.

"You don't try to tame a tiger when it's fully grown; you steal the cubs from its mother's breast and raise them as your own." - Stein Richtor

"You will recognize me, you will obey me, you will serve ruthlessly... and if needed, you will die for me." - Stein Richtor

After witnessing the suffering of his own family, Shoto developed an eating disorder and slowly isolated himself from the world. His body became frail, his emotions became numb, and he spent most of his time buried in philosophy books, trying to understand a world that had taken everything from him. Despite his broken state, his power was terrifying.

"Peace cannot exist without war and violence. One cannot be true without the other, and if the universe was created out of destruction... what is there to make of my past?" - Shoto

His signature technique, Ice Age, allows him to flash freeze entire sections of a city into a frozen battlefield, turning the environment itself into his weapon.

Many underestimate him because of his detached personality and fragile appearance.

They shouldn't.

Along his journey, he meets Larissa, a friend of the Kaminari family and the creator of Water Dancing: a sword art built around adaptation, balance, and finding one's own rhythm.

Larissa: "A rapier is a weapon meant for speed and agility, yet you swing it as if it were a claymore. Tell me, what weighs on you so?"

"Nothing. I already told you... that's enough training for today." Shoto

"I decide when you've had enough." Larissa points her sword to his neck.

"It makes you angry, doesn't it? I'm sure someone like you has known it for a very long time." Larissa

"What are you talking about..." Shoto

"Powerlessness." Larissa

Shoto's father's words ring in his ears, and his eyes flash before he finally speaks:

"...How can I fight like you?"

Larissa: "I can't teach you how to fight like me, but I can teach you how to fight like you."

"Like me? If that worked I wouldn't be here." Shoto

"If you were honest with yourself, you'd never have to come back." Larissa

Misc. Theory: Hood might've been specifically finalized as a High End to counter Hawks the same way USJ Nomu was to All Might, and he might've ended up crippled had he not brought Endeavor with him

Thumbnail
gallery
10 Upvotes

Reading back into the arc & vigilantes. I've noticed few interesting things regarding Hood's quirks and the attack itself, and it's that they specifically counter Hawks' abilities and fighting style.

The only hero that can match Hood in speed was Prime Hawks, not even Endeavor qualifies in that aspect, and amongst the heroes who can fly only Endeavor and Hawks check that out. But we know Hood wasn't meant to be tested against Endeavor by Dabi and Garaki, they only asked Hawks for a "hero" in a warehouse, then immediately backstabbed him by launching it prematurely directly on Hawks' location without knowing Endeavor was present with him.

That can only mean the intended target for the full and final Hood test was Hawks himself, and Hood's abilities possibly hint at that. Aside from the transforming limbs for wings and Air Jets for speed to keep up with Hawks' movement, there's also Hood's Muscle Augmentation and Power quirks that makes it so his muscles are hard to cut and tear through to match against Hawks' sharp feather blade attacks & Lastly, his Storage quirk with other Nomus inside is perfect to neutralize Hawks' multitasking telekinetic ability with his feathers, as it creates too many targets for him to focus on while Hood deals with the Hawks' main body.

Note: It should be noted that all Hood had before finalization was the muscle augmentation and transformation quirk as an early Nomu, so the newer adjustments were clearly meant to counter someone else.

Standing Next to You🎉✨

FINALLY the garden bed is all done! Our garden patrol put the last touches on this morning. A job well done! They can now celebrate and relax as it’s been such an incredible task to accomplish. From an abandoned lot to now a thriving hummingbird garden that they hope will attract all kinds of creatures that they can’t wait to see. Hoping for the flowers to take for next year to come back up with many blooms. Now they can do a few small tasks around the garden before embarking on another adventure hopefully. Hopefully they don’t get too carried away with all this new change happening as it may just bring unwelcome guests.

Credit goes to @whiteroseeleven on insta if you want to see the whole adventure unfold….the reel of all the pictures is here…
