We're pretty new to bunny keeping. We recently added an extension to his enclosure (that was too small) that I like to call his yard.

First night we left his door open to use the yard, he escaped and climbed into our bed for cuddles. Cute, but our cats are territorial about the bed and were quite upset. Second night we removed everything from the yard and he escaped again (around the same time too). We realized he could jump from the floor and land on an enclosed cat litter box with some extra blankets on top (it's a wood enclosure that looks like a bench). We realized that because he did it this afternoon while we watched.

So I've moved his landing pad and put the storage bin with his bedding material on top to make it even more inaccessable. Then I added zip-ties all along the top of the yard (except the wall side) to discourage him further.

What I want to know is will it be enough, or will we be bunny wrangling at 1:30am again?

Some additional notes because I know they'll come up:

We do let him roam the house for a few hours most evenings when we're home from work/school.

We have seven cats who he generally terrorizes when he's roaming. Occasionally they'll bat him with a paw when they've had enough of his antics, which usually doesn't dissuade him at all.

We have some areas of the house where we don't want bunny to go, but cats do need to go (or they'll yell until we let them), so I don't think permanent free roam is going to be feasible.

We love him (his name is Carmel) and want to help make him happy, but we are learning a lot and have a lot to learn still.

My rabbit has never once pooped anywhere else except for his litter box. Recently i rearranged my room. today was his first time out and about in the new room (he was in his cage in another room while i organized). His cage is in a completely different side of the room. his cage is now directly beside my bed, and the side that his litter box is on is the side that’s against my bed. I’m wondering if he used my bed as a bathroom because it’s now right beside his litter box? If anyone has any ideas i’d really appreciate it!

I work at a horse farm and was out in one of the pastures leveling dirt with the tractor and I saw 3 baby bunnies in the dirt pile. They can’t be returned to their nest because I think I dug it up :’(

Bunnies seem to be unharmed and all 3 have eyes open and are about the size of a tennis ball. They are currently safe in a cardboard box. Should I just let them go somewhere out of harms way?

hello my bunny has been sneezing since yesterday (maybe 2-3 times a day which is normal for us, she is always eating hay with her head in it and it is a bit dusty). 2 of her seneezes made her nose pour white mucus from one of her nostrils. i am verry worried. i recently moved and her playpen is situaded near the window and balcony door wich we kept open. now i moved her in a smaller cage so that i can monitorise her better. guys i am very worried people on fo told me to cut her and eat her and i am very serious. this sneeze only happened 2 times (1 today and 1 yesterday) but otherwise she is perfectly healthy, running playing eating and following me in the room. guys what should i do.. i wanna go to the vet but my first thought was to see if it stops..and if it happens ore more time to go there. did it ever happen to you? i want to go to the vet soon but i am thinking maybe she doesn t pass this night but guys she is perfectly healthy if i weren t to see the sneeze i would have not guessed it

i’m looking for some advice, and honestly, probably some reassurance that it’s okay to consider rehoming my rabbits, mabel and juno :(

i adopted my girls in may 2025, at a time when i was in a really good place mentally and physically, and i genuinely believed i would be able to give them the life they deserved. unfortunately, my health has deteriorated hugely since then, and i now struggle significantly with both chronic illness and my mental health. as much as it hurts me to admit it, i’ve also struggled to form the connection with them that i desperately wanted to have.

they are the most beautiful girls. they have an amazing setup, they are happy, healthy and very well cared for, and i’m incredibly lucky to have my parents who help me with them when i’m struggling. but i keep worrying about whether i can realistically provide everything they need long term, especially if my health continues to decline.

i love my girls to absolute pieces, but i will admit i have struggled to connect with them. i think i have the fear that if i connect to much, something bad will happen and i will spiral mentally – i can't bear loss.

the thought of giving them up breaks my heart, which is exactly why i’m even considering it. i don’t want to keep them simply because i can’t bear the guilt of letting them go if there is a possibility that they could have an even better life with someone who is able to give them more time, attention and care.

i think i’m struggling with the idea that rehoming them could actually be an act of love rather than me failing them. i feel so guilty even considering it, because i love them so much, but i also know that loving them means putting their needs before my own feelings.

i would really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been in a similar situation, especially if you’ve had to make this decision because of your own health. i just want what is best for mabel and juno, even if that means making one of the hardest decisions i’ve ever had to make.

She is a loaf

There are many ways to keep angora short and kept. With our little EA, we gently "pluck" the loose top coat out when it is ready to shed. It does not harm the rabbit in anyway, though she doesn't seem too thrilled here. For those of you with angora breeds, how do you tend their fiber?

I'm new to house rabbit activism—prior to this I usually kept it to myself, but recently I am more and more involved in rabbit rescue and have been trying to educate people how to better care for their rabbits.

We have a local Buy Nothing Facebook group (if you don't know what it is, it's a localized Facebook group that allows you to post stuff you don't need to see if others need it, or if you need something you can ask in the group). A woman was asking for a corner rabbit litter box and a water bottle. I replied by saying that I have a medium-sized cat litter box to pass on, and a water bowl is easier for a bunny to drink from instead of a water bottle, which I was also willing to give away.

The woman messaged me and said that she would like to have the water bowl; as for the litter box, she needed to see if it's too big for the hutch.

The "hutch" raised a red flag for me. I'm strongly against putting rabbits in an outdoor hutch, but I also know that keeping a bunny in a hutch is normalized for a lot of people. I first apologized to the woman and said I never wanted to overstep, and then told her that a bunny needs space to exercise; a hutch wouldn't be able to provide that. She could use the hutch as a hidey space for her bunny. I also informed her that if bunny-proofing an entire house is too overwhelming, she could start with a dog exercise pen, which I could provide to her if needed.

She replied by saying that that her family has been keeping outdoor rabbits for years without a problem. Keeping a bunny inside her house is not feasible for them, because they have 2 large dogs in the house and 4 young kids running around. She then proceeded to tell me that she's involved in animal rescue and is treating her animals well—"my previous rabbits were happy to be kept that way", which I highly doubt.

At this point I was prepared to ditch the conversation—I didn't want to argue with someone on the phone over my morning coffee time. So I gave her the measurements of the litter box, and told her that if she needed the water bowl and the litter box, I could put them on my porch.

I never received an reply.

I was wondering, for those of you who advocate for house rabbits—how should you approach this conversation? I know people can be defensive, sensitive & stubborn on this subject, and I don't want to come off as someone who's telling them what they should do. But I also feel like I didn't handle this conversation very well; had I convinced the woman, her new bunny would live a much better life. But right now the bunny is being prepared to live in an outdoor hutch forever, and that breaks my heart.

I have a 1 year old bunny (fully neutered) who I think would benefit from a new home. He’s incredibly friendly and loves cuddles.

He’s noticeably depressed with his current situation. He’s alone for most of the day while I’m at work. I would get him a friend, but I’d be unable to take good care of two bunnies. I rescued him from a bad situation, but I still feel bad about seeking him a new home.

Callisto has a very low tolerance for brushing so I basically have to grab her and hand pluck the large chunks out as fast as possible, then let her go to run around for a while to decompress and decide if she wants to forgive me lol

she has bitten me (not really but she's tried, it's like warning nips and teeth grazes), growled, groaned, stomped, ran off, and grabbed the brush and slung it as far as she could if I tried to do it the "fancy" way. if I tried treats she would just take it and run off with it, so I've found the easiest and fastest way to get the bulk of shedding fur off of her is to just take my thumb and press it out against my hand

I usually use the back 2 nature small animal bedding for my buns, but it’s frequently out of stock on Amazon and in the shops. There’s so many mixed reviews on other litters and I’m paranoid with trying something new incase it irritates either of my buns respiratory tracts. They’re both aged 5/6+ so I’m very careful with changing their usual products.

What litter do you all use? Any recommendations would be much appreciated please. Thank you in advance!

Just adopted this guy from the shelter on Saturday, he’s pretty friendly and likes to be pet. He keeps jumping out of his enclosure to be with me. I think he is a New Zealand/California mix. He was in the shelter most of his life. I’m his 3rd owner and he is my first bunny!

After the whole flooding thing happened, we’ve kept a close eye on rhiyo!

Im ordering an emergency kit for gi stasis incase another stressful event happens in the future, but now, shes binkying, flinging her poop at me and investing in her biscuit making business.

Hello everyone, meet Pepperoni!

So I just got her about a month ago, before I got her I set everything up, I knew I was getting a bunny, but didn't know what kind. I've owned rabbits my whole life but never an Angora. Was wondering if anyone can provide Angora specific tips. Specifically, what's the best brush for her? My past rabbits hardly needed brushing. She was such a cute little fluff ball when I saw her, I just had to have her. She's only about 4 months old, she's still growing, and her fur is still coming in. I try to brush her a little every day, it seems like she really wasn't getting that much tlc before.

My Cookie (9 month old Liondutch) just won against Coccidia, at multiple times I thought I would lose him, recently he developed gas, and lost a lot of weight although he was eating, today was the first day without gas and things are going pretty well, had a vet check and took samples, Coccidia is gone and his digestive system is pretty good and recovering. The first two pictures are prior to all this, and the 3rd one is him right now, he is paper thin, he used to be about 1.4kg, he is now 1.1kg (he is just small overall, little guy). I would appreciate any suggestions you have for helping this little guy gain weight. I already asked yesterday about what greens to feed him as vet wanted to change this little guy's diet and redditors were helpful. Thanks in advance! ❤️
