I'm working on a Mori Seiki CL-200 with an MSC-803 control and I'm having an issue with the Program Protection function.

The control language had changed to Japanese, but I was able to get the language changed back to English.

The remaining problem is that when I press Program Protection, the control immediately asks for INPUT PASSWORD. It requires a 5-digit password.

I checked the parameters and found:

• Parameter #58: *****
• Parameter #59: *****

I don't know the passwords for either parameter. I have not changed or overwritten #58 or #59.

I'm trying to figure out how to reset/clear the Program Protection password or properly unlock program editing on the MSC-803.

Does anyone here have experience with the CL-200 / MSC-803 and know the correct procedure for resetting this password? Is there a factory/service procedure for clearing it?

I don't want to randomly change parameters and risk losing programs or machine settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello. I'm new to 5 axis / 3+2. We have an old variaxis I'm trying to learn to program. We got the machine definition, post etc from mastercam.

I can't seem to get a toolpath to regen while the C/plane & T/plane are set to a plane where the A & C are both rotated.

I have on the other hand successfully gotten a 5 axis curve toolpath to post and run on the machine, so not sure where I'm going wrong.

Any help is appreciated. TIA!

I’m new to the manufacturing field and currently undergoing training. I’m machining an aluminum part on a CNC milling machine, but I’m getting a very loud and annoying squealing/chattering noise during cutting.

I’d like to understand what could be causing this and how I can fix it to achieve a smooth, normal cutting sound.

Here are my current cutting parameters:

- Material: Aluminum

- Cutting tool: Carbide end mill, hardness approximately 55 HRC

- Spindle speed: 10000 RPM

- Depth of cut (Z step-down): 0.7 mm per pass

- CNC milling machine

Could the problem be related to the spindle speed, feed rate, depth of cut, tool geometry, tool holder, workpiece clamping, or incorrect cutting parameters?

What parameters would you recommend changing first?

I’m a beginner, so I’d really appreciate a simple explanation and advice from experienced CNC machinists. Thank you!

for anyone curious - this is diamond abrasive, not bead blasting. media's reusable too so it's not as wasteful as people assume. going for mirror finish on this one, still pretty satisfying to watch even after doing this a while lol

Suppose a transformer or switchgear installation is operating normally, but you have some reason to suspect early partial discharge.

There may be no obvious hotspot yet, no visible damage, and no immediate effect on the power supply. How would you approach troubleshooting in that situation?

Would you start with:

A visual inspection
Thermal imaging
Acoustic/ultrasonic inspection
A dedicated PD measurement
Or a combination of these?

One thing I'm trying to understand is how you would narrow down the actual location of the discharge once an abnormal signal has been detected.

For experienced maintenance or power engineers, what would your troubleshooting sequence look like from the first indication through to confirming the source?

This is a 3d model of an rc plane which I meticulously made and I need help in converting this model into some format which can be sent to any cnc workshop to cut each piece on balsa.

I intend to use convert entity on the faces of all the 3d pieces in this model to get a 2d sketch of that particular balsa piece which then, somehow I have to put together into any 2d vector file format which can be then sent to any cnc workshop to laser cut the balsa accordingly.

Can anyone give me a general direction which I have to go to get this done?.

My tools currently live in three drawer organizers, a cardboard box, and whatever fits in my backpack. It worked as an apprentice, but now I have measuring tools that should not get tossed together. What kind of machinist tool box has held up without taking up half a garage?

I am 30 years old, and in the country where I live, employers are not very keen on hiring those who are older and inexperienced. I want to learn CNC turning, CNC machining, and other CNC operations, but sometimes I come across job postings for inexperienced people, yet they always seem to be looking for young people. So I want to try my luck in this profession. How can I get employers to hire me for a CNC job at my age? Is learning CNC work a challenging process? Will it take years or months to become a CNC operator, and will it add to my skills? thanks

We cut dibond daily for printing on. We have to keep the plastic on to prevent surface scratches happening before printing. It feels like it can cut faster, but I don’t know what settings to change. It does two passes but I feel it could do it in one just fine. The table has a vacuum to hold material down. Any help will be great!

A 5/16 bolt snapped about two threads below the face of an aluminum part. I can put it on the mill, but there is no room for welding a nut. I have not started drilling because I only get one clean attempt at this. What is the sensible order of operations?

I've been in this trade for 10+ yrs (lathe guy), but always with Fanuc controllers. I'm at a new shop that uses Haas machines. This is my problem

When I singleblock MDI

T404 G54;

it will only show me the tool position while "running" the program; once the program/mdi ends it shows tool position as machine coordinates, not tool/global coordinates.

When I single block past the last ; in MDI my tool position goes from actual position go some nonsense.. like X-18.6371 Z-3.865 when actual location in G54 is X6. Z6.

Is there a way to make the machine not default to machine coordinates when not "running" a program? To STAY in G54 until otherwise instructed?

The grey beard at the shop says no, that's just how it's done. Haas just does it that way. Duh. I was like ugh... okay. So the position is shows are just arbitrary numbers when not running a program? He's like it's the Z distance from machine home to the turret.. looked at me like I was crazy.

On every machine I've ran the position display was modal and held relevent information as to the actual tool location.

I'm posting this in the hopes that it may save a Fadal user from having to replace their display.

I got a call from one of my friends who said that the display on his Fadal VMC20 had stopped working.

We took the display out and I measured the voltage at the output of the power supply brick the powered the display (a laptop power supply by the looks of it). No voltage at the DC jack.

In the interest of being thorough, we measured the continuity from the Molex connector to the PC style plug (IEC C13).

There was no continuity on any of the pins of the Molex to the pins on the plug. Kinda weird. Actually, way beyond weird.

After cutting the cable apart, the wires simply broke apart. In the first photo, the blue and ground broke apart after I had removed the shrink tubing. In the second, the blue or the ground broke, while the other one pulled off of its wires. Either most of them had broken at that spot (most likely), or that's all that was in the wire. In any case, the wires broke where the sheathing had been cut for removal.

This damage happened on a cable that hasn't moved in over 30 years.

We plugged in a new PC computer cord into the power supply and the display started up for us.

So before you buy a new display, check this first. Hope this helps. :)

How do you guys remedy when getting tear out towards the center of the part on a lathe. The part is .480 in diameter and I have my maximum rpm set to 2500 rpm with a feed rate of .002 per revolution.

I always struggle with pricing.

If i charge material + time it feels too high and if i don't charge i lose money, how you guys handle it?
