First hobby CNC build.
Having issue with X travel. Not sure if it’s the ball screw binding, but under a manual computer controlled jog it moves fine until maybe 30in/min then makes a grinding noise at higher speeds. Y axis moves fine at over 100in/min. But when controlling the jog through a Gcode line such as g1 x10 f10 anything above a speed of above f3 causes the axis to stutter badly and make an awful grinding noise. My only ideas are to swap the x/y motors and make sure it’s not the motor or driver, loosen the ball nut, and maybe try setting the units in uccnc through g code.
Pm25mv conversion, I should have just bought the dro with it. I’m running uccnc, uc300eth+ ub1 breakout board, Nema 24’s x/y, and a Nema 34 z. A solenoid to control coolant through the GCode. 5um ditron magnetic scales, an Accusize Kurt clone vice, and an Arizona CNC ball screw kit.
Haven’t mounted the scales yet for the dro and need to shim the column it seems the head is nodding about 3thou.
Looking for any advice. I plan on running fusions’ cam software. Made a 123 block and had good results. Within a thou in.
Messy garage too I know, but only place I could set it up was a family members garage.
