Context: I am a Landscaper wanting to emigrate to Australia and have been researching the local Car Market. And what I have found interesting is that Tipper Trucks (With Car licence) and even Tipper Utes barely exist. I know there is the Isuzu NPR and Mitsubishi Fuso Canter but they are very rare to find second hand and barely any with 4x4 ( which I would love to have).

Coming from Europe where most Tradies that do anything with Dirt/Asphalt/Concrete have Cars like the one shown in the picture and I am unsure wheter I will be happy with a UTE. Does anybody know what the reason for this is in Australia? And might have some recommedations for me?

Are there any Hyundai Tucson owners on here who have experienced issues associated with the FCA (currently subject to recall - https://www.vehiclerecalls.gov.au/recalls/rec-006615) on their vehicles

The FCA on my car caused sudden and unnecessary braking resulting in a rear end collision. Despite Hyundai subsequently issuing a recall to prevent this exact issue, they’ve conveniently ignored my letters to remedy the issue.

Okay, i need a rant. Im sure there will be plenty of people who dont agree or don't understand and thats okay you're the exact people im talking about.

This next paragraph is a shit fight but i did my best while being bounced around in a truck sitting passenger to someone who does all of the below.

Why do people not look ahead? Staring directly at the car in front of them all day and wondering why they're constantly slowing down and speeding up. YOU'RE The problem!

Why do people not leave a gap between them and the vehicle in front? Constantly having to react to what traffic in front of them is doing and wondering why they use so much fuel and prematurely wear their brake pads. YOU'RE The problem!

Now those are the main 2 questions i have, but also,

Why do people do everything out of habit with brain switched off and no use of their own discretion?

Why do people drive so aggressively and abruptly? You'll get home at the same time even if you dont go full lock right hand down just to change lanes. Aggressively accelerating, braking and steering is not getting you there any faster i can guarantee. Lets just be comfortable and avoid giving our passengers whiplash.

People who dont use the limo/chauffeur stop. I cant even put into words how that makes me feel.

People who reactively brake under any and every circumstance rather than just coasting and planning the next move.

People who sit in the right lane when not overtaking or turning off. That one speaks for itself.

There are a million other things which feel nit-picky and more just me being hyper aware of patterns in people's driving.

Now in saying all of this. I am a very patient driver. I still sit back and watch it unfold with no desire to rush around and put people in a dangerous situation, but i still notice i always end up ahead of people who look like they're trying so hard to quickly get where they're going and i believe its just due to timing, planning, and being alert of surroundings rather than just thinking my right foot will solve all problems. Drivers ambition outweighs his talent. Asian dude told me the headlight unit I was holding from the wreckage hit him in the back. I wrote him off a bit for milking the situation. Since seeing the footage, I realise how close he came. Wild that this wasn't much worse. He could have hit the gas meter, ignited a bowser, pinned a pedestrian etc.

Been looking for to buy a performance car for the last 6 months l and have amassed a disgustingly large amount of saved cars on carsales/marketplace and one thing I keep noticing (mostly from dealers) is this pricing strategy:

- Car sits unsold for 2+ months at $90k.

- Nobody buys it.

- Dealer: “You know what this needs? $95k.”

Can someone in the industry explain the logic here?

I understand dealers need to make money but surely if a car has been sitting for months, the market is telling you something. Either there’s something wrong with the car or it’s priced too high.

Instead I keep seeing stale listings INCREASE in price after sitting around forever.

Is there some strategy behind this that I’m missing?

So I set out to do a semi-serious research with strict methodology, and found convincing evidence of it.

Answer: Yes, the media is way more likely to mention Tesla in the title (57%) compared to other car makes (3.7%), and such bias persists even after accounting for "luxury car make" and "horrific crash" effects.

Method: Systematically identified a year (Sept 2025 to Aug 2026) of Australian crash news using only generic terms (“crash,” “collision,” “rolled,” etc). Confirmed each was a real domestic crash, then figured out the actual car make from the article body text with the headline hidden. Only kept crashes where the make was actually established and at least 2 outlets covered it; otherwise you can’t fairly compare “named the brand” vs “didn’t.” Then checked: did the headline name the make? 66 crashes qualified (3 Tesla, 63 other), across 7 of Australia’s most-read outlets.

I am planning to buy a second hand car. I found the Skoda Octavia Wagon (NE series) with a single owner, 133000 in 12k with RWC. Has service history and timing belt replaced in Oct'25. Is it a good car to go ahead as I don't change cars frequently Or does this model have any major issues? Any major engine issues or specifics need to check? What would be its realistic fuel efficiency?

Currently have a budget lying between 10-15k, and debating between getting a:

• BL Series Mazda 3 (preferably SP20 or SP25)
• XE10 Lexus IS/ Toyota Altezza (either imported Altezza RS200 or IS300)

looking to keep the car for atleast 5-7 years.

I’ve been looking at the XE10 as it seems like a good balance between being a good first car while also being a fun car to drive (I wanna do some minor mods, nothing major). My family has also never owned a toyota product so I kinda wanna get a feel of them lol

However, with the XE10, I’m aware that - cleaner examples are harder to find - insurance can be expensive for imported examples - parts can be harder to find for imported examples - maintenance can be exy compared to other toyota products (as it’s and older car + depending on the engine) - imported example prices vary

I’ve been looking at the BL Mazda 3 as my family has owned Mazdas in the past and have all mutually liked the ones we’ve owned, and they seem like good cars if you want a balance of both practicality and comfort. The only downside is that it’s a more basic car and if I do end up choosing it, I’m keeping stock. But, it’d be the more responsible choice (newer, lighter on petrol).

Hey guys, looking for recommendations for a good mechanic or exhaust shop around Ingleburn / South-West Sydney that won’t charge crazy money.

I have a 2018 Mustang GT 5.0 RHD (10-speed) and just need REX long-tube headers + supplied cats installed. Nothing else major.

I’ve already contacted a few places and have been quoted $2,200–$2,500 just for the install, which seems excessive.

Does anyone know a reputable shop/mechanic around South-West Sydney that has experience installing Mustang/Coyote long-tube headers and charges a fair price?

Happy to travel a bit for the right shop. Ideally looking for recommendations from people who have actually had headers installed and can give me a rough idea of what they paid.

Hi, we are needing to offload a Forester and purchase a ute for work.
We have some panel beating after a bingle on the forester that needs doing, but have found a great deal on a ute and hoping to grab that. Question is, is it better to trade in at the same time as purchasing to get a better deal, or will I still get an okay deal if I just trade in separately, after purchasing?

Coupe or hatchback is fine and approximately how much would be fair for one that has over 150k on the dash. Also id appreciate some tips on what to look out for before getting it

Hey might be a dumb/obvious post but I’m a 19 year old looking to sell my 09 VE for something safer and lower running costs, and the newer Euro Commodores interested me.

I’m aware of all the other similar modern options such as Cerato, Mazda 3 and 6, etc, but am mainly only interested in the Commodore.

I found a 2019 2.0t (petrol) listed at $10.8k with ~110k kms, full service history + log books, the only problem being that it’s from NSW, while I’m in VIC.

Does the listing seem reasonable? And if so, is the process of flying up, driving it back, changing state rego, etc, worth it?

My car has been off the road for a few months now due to engine issues, due to this my rego expired. Finally got it sorted and running took it for rego today to the only mechanic I could get it in to today (15kms from home) and of course there was a mobile speed camera car set up. Am I stuck with a fine for this or can I contest it as I was travelling for the purpose of getting a pink slip done?

Hey everyone

I was driving home today and there was a bang and my car pulled to the left. I pulled over and couldn't see anything so drove it home super slowly while hoping the wheel wasn't about to fall off.

When I got home I checked and it looks like the whole bit that has the like coil thing has come loose or somehow broken off....which from Googling seems to be my suspension that has broken. The coil isn't broken, but the whole like unit that the coil is attached to seems to have snapped at the top and is currently not attached to anything as far as my very untrained eye can tell.

It's a 2003 Hyundai Elantra that's done 202,000km and I've had it for 8 years. It's been really good to me and I've had annual services done and I really don't want to have to buy a new car right now.

I've got it booked in at the mechanic on Thursday. How much do you think it would cost to repair? It's my front left hand suspension.

I recently moved back to Australia and need to buy a car.

There’s a decent chance I’ll only own it for about a year, so I’m trying to find something that won’t get smashed on depreciation and won’t be a pain to sell when I leave.

The budget is under $25k, ideally more like $15–20k.

I had a 2012 Infiniti ex35 and really liked it, so I’ve been looking at 2017/18 qx30s as they seem like pretty good value, but with Infiniti gone from Australia I’m a bit worried it’ll be hard to move on again.

Test drove a Kona and ASX on the weekend. Kona was nice enough, just a bit slow. Thought the ASX was awful.

Ideally I’d like something reasonably nice inside, decent to drive, reliable, and with a bit of tech. Android auto and adaptive cruise would be nice but aren’t dealbreakers.

SUV/crossover would probably be my preference, but I’m open to sedans, hatches or wagons as well.

What would you guys be looking at around this price point?

Also, how bad an idea is the QX30 if I’m probably selling again in 12 months?
