Mummy and daddy are moving to Japan in a few months for 2 years. You can either stay in your current 2 bedroom house which you have lived in for the past year with your brother but be looked after by mummy and daddy’s friend who you have never met until mummy and daddy return in 2 years. Or come to Japan and live in a much smaller 25-35 m^2 studio apartment with your brother, mummy and daddy for the 2 years.

I’ve had my cat since she was born 14 years ago. I was 15 when I got her, she’s been with me through every major event in my life so far. She’s always been annoying, meowing all the time and peeing on things. The vet says she’s healthy. She is completely obsessed with me, which is fine. I’ve gotten used to her ways but recently I moved in with my boyfriend 3 months ago. He knew that she was annoying and has been putting up with it but recently it’s been out of control. She keeps us up all night constantly meowing, scratching the bed, scratching his feet, walking across us over and over again. He’s gotten to his breaking point and I’m afraid she’s going to ruin my relationship. He is the most important thing in my life to me and I can’t handle the stress of her anymore. I don’t know what to do with her. It breaks my heart the thought of surrendering her but I don’t even know what else to do. Please help.

A few months ago, we adopted the cuddliest, friendliest cat I’ve ever met. I instantly became her person, and we bonded quickly!

However…I literally can’t walk anywhere without her constantly weaving in and out between my legs. I’m talking…every single time I walk when she’s around me. She tripped me down the stairs twice already, so it’s become an actual hazard for me. If I just get up off the couch to grab sometime from the fridge…she’s in my legs. I really don’t know what to do about this lol I’ve had dogs for the last 20 years, and I’m not sure how you train a cat?

I also understand that she might still be a bit anxious as she was apparently found living in a barn and likely had been there for her whole life. We’ve had her for two months, so maybe she’s still settling in/taking some time to feel totally safe. She’s one and healthy.

As the title states, I'm looking for a new cat fountain. We have been using random stainless steel ones from Amazon, but it seems no matter how often I clean the nooks and crannies of the pumps end up getting grimey in spots that are hard to reach and I'm tired of constantly replacing parts. I like the idea of a ceramic fountain, I was looking into thirsty cats but they appear to have the same typical plastic pump which to me defeats the purpose of paying so much for a ceramic fountain because those pumps seem to be bacteria traps. We live in Florida and it's hurricane season so I'm thinking of power outages etc and find the pumps that can run wirelessly on battery life if needed appealing, but again keep seeing reviews on how cleaning the "host/pump" is nearly impossible. Also not sure it my cat would use a fountain that doesn't have the option to run continuously as that's all she's used to. I'm willing to compromise on the pumpless aspect if it seems like it can be cleaned. I just want a healthier option for our fur baby. Open to more expensive options if they are actually a worthy investment. Wondering if anyone has any recommendations, from what I've seen so far I feel like I'm having unrealistic standards lol.

So my cat seems to like the friskies gravy swirlers & I'm looking for more budget-friendly dry cat foods that he may like.

I just started feeding dry food again like when he was little after a binge of only wet food for awhile.
I want to feed him a couple cans of wet food a day & the rest dry food.

He doesn't like high end food.

I have tried friskies gravy swirlers & he really likes those but I want to mix it up so he doesn't get tired of it.

I'm currently looking at meow mix gravy bursts, & tender centers.

Also looking at temptations dry cat food(Pockets mixed in)

What should I get him? I don't mind trying a couple brands but would like to know which he would like better?

Also I will take recommendations on dry cat food toppers like instinct(He likes the pumpkin ones) as he likes it mixed in with his dry food.

This is a long post so TLDR:

Cats are being very vocal in the morning after I leave for work and when my partner is trying to sleep, likely due to wanting to be let out of the house. Partners sleep is very sensitive and is being actively disturbed and she is even brought to tears by this. Tips for keeping the cats entertained and more quiet?

Me and my partner have two cats, Everdeen and Sansa. Both are 9 year old females, spayed and neutered, vaccinated and overall healthy and comfortable. They have been with me almost their entire lives and have been living with me and my partner since we moved in together about 4 1/2 years ago.

About one year ago two major things happened. Me, my partner and the cats moved to a new neighbourhood and an apartment on the ground floor, with our front door leading straight from the apartment to the outside. It's basically like living in a semi-detached house which we both really like. At almost the same time however my partner suddenly had to go off a sleeping medication she had been taking for most of her adult life. She has been struggling with sleeping issues throughout her life and it has been very difficult for her to adjust to this change. The whole affair with this, uncaring doctors and other health issues also gave her burnout and she has been spending most of her time at home recovering. She goes to bed late and regularly needs to sleep until about 11-12 most days to feel well rested. If her sleep is disturbed or interrupted in any way it can screw up her mood and well-being for a couple of days.

The issue which has now appeared on top of this is that both cats have seemingly become much more vocal in the mornings and will often actively walk around our bedroom and the apartment meowing and grunting. Sansa especially will sometimes make a sound similair (but not as intense) to the yowling which she used make when she was in heat, before being neutered. I'm pretty sure the reason for this is that they have realised that there is a great big world outside the front door and they want to go explore it. They will both often wait at the door and run to it whenever we're about to leave the house.

They have both been indoor cats their whole lives but due to this we decided to try and let them out with a collar and a bell. This worked great for a couple of weeks as I made it a routine to let them both out as I'm leaving for work and my partner could sleep undisturbed again. The cats get to run around outside and come and go almost as they please and my partner gets to sleep soundly in the morning.

But then the homeowners association/housing cooperative for the area came in to the picture. I got an email with pictures of our cats infront of our door, asking if they were ours and informing us that it is against their rules to leave cats to roam freely in the neighbourhood, due to them potentially scaring children and leaving cat hair on peoples patio furniture. Now I would argue that this is a ridicolous rule for a leafy and quiet apartment neighbourhood to have, especially since we had already seen plenty of cats right outside our windows, likely visiting from nearby areas which our association has no say over, but that is a different discussion.

For now letting them out seems to be a no go. And since i've been leaving the cats inside in the mornings they have gone back to their vocalising ways and my partner is once again being brought to tears over not being able to sleep.

I always give them food and make sure their water fountain is flowing in the morning. I have tried things like playing more with them, leaving toys out for them to use at their leisure and I've even specifically tried to give them extra play time in the morning before I leave. But once I'm gone and my partner is still in bed they will almost always start to meow, chirp and yowl until my partner gets up. Closing the bedroom door still lets noise through and if anything makes them more likely to meow or even scratch at it. I'm thinking of getting some sort of automatic toy for them but I'm worried that it won't be enough to distract them. I think that I will also invest in some noise cancelling earbuds designed for sleep for my partner, although she has felt uncomfortable trying to sleep with any sort of headphones so far.

We really don't want to give up our cats because we love them and they are our babies and have been with us our entire relationship. We also know that it's hard to find people who will take in 9 year old cats and that it can be difficult for older cats to adjust to new people. But I feel like we are running out of options and if it truly comes down to it I will put my partners physical and mental well-being first.

Has anyone had similair struggles and any general tips for what to try?

TL;DR: My 2-year-old shelter cat keeps waking me up at night and damaging my rug trying to get into a closet, and despite playtime, feeding, ignoring her, and trying to redirect her, I’m struggling to establish a bedtime routine and wondering how I can stop the behavior without being miserable for the next 10+ years.

I've had my cat just over a year. She's two now, adopted from a shelter (spaid). I've been in this apartment since April, a different spot from where I first brought her to. This place has a big closet with sliding doors. My bedroom has a rug. She loves to dig around the closet and cause a lot of noise in the middle of the night so I've started to close the sliding doors. She started to pull on the rug because she wants to go in and has caused damage. I've started to put open essential oil bottles near it to discourage her from even going near there.

I was reading it's important to make the closet (or whatever space you are deterring them from) less interesting. I try to distract her with a toy when she goes near it but sometimes in the middle of the night she goes to it and I'm really trying to ignore it as to not reinforce giving her attention but it actually makes me so fkn mad when I'm woken up and know she's causing damage. I play with her at night before I start to wind down. She gets energy after dinner (6p auto feeder) and we play anytime from 7:30-10 for about 25 mins.

Jackson Galaxy recommended giving them a small portion of food after (to follow their hunting instics) which has helped a little. I've been doing this routine for about 3 nights in a row. But how do I really stop her from damaging the rug (I'm renting) and get into a bedtime routine, and not wake me up? Am I screwed for the next 10+ years for sleep? I feel like my friend's cats simply go into their room at night and don't bother them. This is really making me regret having a cat. I also sleep with noise canceling ear buds, but it still doesn't work at times. I know people will say get another cat, but I can't do that right now for several reasons. She also does sleep most of the day

I don't like clay litter, so I bought a new box meant for Zeolite pellets. It's so much easier to clean, with virtually no mess or stickiness. I have two cats, a calico named Dia, and a black one named Luna. Dia acclimated to the new litter immediately, but Luna refuses to recognize it so bad that she has pissed on our couch multiple times, and shat on the carpet.

I have tried putting her old turds in the new one, I've tried spreading a layer of old clay litter, and I've tried putting the old box next to the new. She just hates it and refuses to use it. She holds it in as long as possible before doing it wherever she currently is. I don't know if it's because the pellets are rough on her paws or what. And it's not a medical thing, because I eventually caved and gave her back her old box, and she used it no problem. But she HAS to use the new box. I'm NOT going back to the clay, that's just not an option. How do I force her to use it? I am sick and tired of deep-cleaning the couch and carpet.

I literally am exhausted waking up early every night, like right now because my cat is so damn vocal.

He's 6 years old, hes fixed, vaccinated and as far as I can tell hes in great health(had multiple vet check ups). I did just move across like 1400 miles with him on the road a few months ago and im barely getting settled into an apartment with my roomies. We dont have much and someone lost the pieces to put his cat tree together but he has lots of toys and scratchers. We try playing with him throughout the day when we can but honestly i just dont know what to do.

He constantly yells and meows. Like constantly. It feels like a cat form of "Hey look at me, look at me look at me, ok throw this toy for me. No im not gonna chase it, throw it again, i just saw you lying down and i hate that. Uhh hello? Youre laying down at 4am again? UM hello? Hello ? Hello? hey HEY HEY. i really wish i had a non humanizing way to put it because ive brought him to the vet and they never give me helpful advice on it. If i wasnt so broke I would pay for a cat psychic to tell me what it is he wants because i truly think hes asking for like SOMETHING? Or anything?? And thats ok i love him but he only does this when literally everyone(even me and my roomie who is insomniacs) is asleep or trying to sleep. and like its not a pained meow or yeowl. Sometimes its a weird late night caterwall, BUT MOSTLY in the same tone he will meow repetativly like,

"Meow. Meow. Meow. Meow. Meow. Meow"

and then he escalates into a CRESEANDO. its ridiculous ?? Apalling ? Sometimes he also rakes his claws on the electrical outlets(like plucking at the fixture with his claws for that horrible nails on plastic noise, can you tell i have autism i cant take it anymore) or walls, not scratching but like making the most horrible noise. Or he'll take his paw and tap the door in a way where it makes a loud rattle.

Im almost in tears writing this cause i love my cat so much and im truely trying, like I went to therapy for 3 years so I can be more patient of a cat owner and just better but the way he keeps me up at night feels so grossly personal, like I feel like he literally doesnt want me to sleep.(hes a cat i know Im not holding him to any standard or mistreating him)

Its to a point where hes meowing so much that I have to put him in timeout in another room for like an hour at a time because i cant just move his litterbox everynight(roomates only agree on one litter box spot sadly) but he doesnt even know hes in trouble for the meowing, and its breaking me heart cause im like "No bro I love you, you just wont shut up". Like, i dont even care if he runs around like a maniac, i can sleep through that. Its when im like settling for bed and he quietly sneaks in my doorway and just meows loudly at me for no reason. Im so tired, its 6:47 in the fucking morning ALSO WHEN i put him in tomeout hes quiet ??? So im like "okay???" And i let him out because I AM GUILTY AND TIRED AND I LOVE HIM BUT HES PSYCHOLOGICALLY TORTURING MEEE. And then he does it again. Its a vicious cycle. Honestly is someone wants to send me to a pet psychic that does case to case charity work, please help me because Im behind on rent and i just cant lol

Tdlr: i love my cat, i swear hes trying to tell me something he wants or needs idk what it is, he wont shut up so hes going to timeout so much he cant tell what hes in timeout for. How does everyone manage the smell from empty cat food cans? Does everyone rinse out the can actually wash them before putting them in a trash bag to limit the stink? I still consider myself new to cats after 5 years. I thought my process to seal up the cans was good enough.

Once empty, I put the cans in a separate plastic bag. I use the produce bags from grocery stores or smaller trash bags. After about 4-5 cans, this bag gets knotted up and thrown in with the regular kitchen trash. My husband csnt stand the smell, even the same day when it's a new tmcan bag and new kitchen trash bag. Its not like they sit there for days.

For background, I live out in the country. Our trash cans remain 1/4 of a mile from our actual house at the main toad for pickup. It would be too far to take full cans every week to the "curb" so we take trash out as it fills. Also, since COVID 4 years ago, I have anosmia/parosmia- no sense of smell or distorted. I cannot smell ANY of the cat food can odor except when I open the big curb trash can and they've been sitting out in the sun for days. Majorly strong smells, like rotting food, sewage, landfills, super bad farts....Basically, when I can smell something, it must be really bad.

Hello I got my kitten about a month ago for my birthday this is my first time being actually solely responsible for a cat of my own, I grew up with cats but this is a newer experience.

My kitten gets her wet food at 6am and then a small scoop of her kibble at 3pm. She is in with the big cats for 3-5 hours in the daytime and I know she steals their left over crumbs from their bowls when we aren’t around and she gets treats most days as well. Today I gave her the kibble at 2:15pm because she was begging for food then to go in the main house (because she knows food is there) then for food and I know this is a common cat behaviour all cats act like they’ve been starved their whole life and beg for food but she is growing and this is the first day she’s been this desperate for food I’m worried she isn’t getting enough.

I am very cautious of kibble because of the dehydration and potential urinary issues (very common in males less in females so it’s less of a worry but still) so I only give her a little scoop should she get more? should i introduce a third feeding time? How can I make sure she gets enough food without having her grow up expecting free feeding? She doesn’t like water added to her kibble and she drinks more water than I’ve ever seen a cat drink so I stopped trying with the water to the kibble thing however I do sometimes add some extra water to her wet food when I get extra worried because she will still eat that.

I’m thinking of having my cats nails clipped. When he walks on my partner or I and sometimes kneads during pets, his claws have hurt us really easily. Im wondering if clipping will help but he is very scared of his carrier and I’m also concerned with how clipping will go (never seen someone else handle
Him yet, we adopted him in the past year).

Do we think it’s worth the headache of dealing with his carrier and potentially getting scratched? He has a post at home and I’ve seen his nails come off (I’ve seen random claw pieces every now and then) not seeing anything else really destroyed, though I’m sure my couch has some small tears. We adopted this kitten at 9 weeks old from a shelter. His name is Vax Il’Dan (Vax). I’ll post a pic in the comments as I’m not really sure how to add to a post.
We love him regardless of his breed and we didn’t choose him because of his colouring. We chose him because he was a very outgoing kitten who we were adopting as an emotional support kitten for our other cat (story down the bottom if you’re up for a nonsense long read). But I can’t help but question if he might have a bit of Bengal in him. I know it’s incredibly unlikely and we’re just as happy if he’s just an extra quirky run of the mill tabby.
He is very intelligent, quick to work o it food puzzles, plays a lot and plays hard. He is very interested in water, and hangs out by the glass of the shower when it’s on, likes to play in the kitchen sink, especially if there are bubbles, stands on the edge of the bath to watch the children play in the bath. He zooms, a lot. He climbs wherever he can. Now he’s had a taste of the outside world on a harness and can’t stand his people to be outside without him. He gets loud about it. He gets loud about food time. He gets loud about looking for our other cat.

I know all of these things are typical kitten behaviour. It just feels like he’s that little bit extra.
I am currently working on some cat walls to increase his vertical space and then we might look at building a catio. I guess I just want this itch in my brain scratched and also to have a bit more of a read to make sure we are providing him all the enrichment he needs.

November last year we lost our old man cat to throat cancer. He was 17 and we’d had him from a kitten, adopted at a shelter. Earlier last year we also lost our last dog to old age. Despite three very loud children, our house felt empty. We’d said we would go without pets for a while but then we met Vex ah’lia at a local cat cafe. She was a 2.5 year old long haired American curl. The cat cafe was closing down and rehoming their cats. (Probably questionable breeding but she’s healthy and that’s what matters most to us).

We brought her home and she had a terrible time with adjusting to being a house cat, let alone being an only cat, after living in the cafe for two years with 10-15 other cats. She was unbelievably affectionate and into people in the cafe and it was just so clear how terrified she was living in a house with people. We gave her plenty of space and time. She had a stint on Gabapentin (and also a vet check up for health and to ensure she was desexed). Nothing seemed to really be helping her settle. I said to my husband “my gut instinct is that she needs a cat friend”. So off we went to the shelter to pick out a friend for her.

She took to our new kitten straight away and went into mothering mode. The second night of him being in our house (we were keeping him in the laundry at night) she started coming out from her hiding places to play with cat toys. We have an open plan house, she started finding places she was happy to hang out in the open areas but retreating to the bedrooms when it got too busy. Dusk and dawn were prime playtimes and it really brought me so much joy watching her get the zoomies and do fun cat things with the kitten.
She’s not all the way back to the super affectionate cat we saw in the cafe but I have a hunch that she may not have been getting enough food in the cafe (she was only 4kg but she’s actually a very long big cat) and that perhaps treat time with cafe visitors was a way of her gaining extra calories. Now that she has reliable food she may not feel the need to schmooz as much for her food. But she is still lovely, loves a pat when she chooses and even belly rubs. And walks away when she’s had enough, never lashes out. She’s so sweet.

Before anyone gets the wrong idea, let me explain.

I have three cats of my own. They are very peaceful with one another and have lived with me for years. I recently moved, and they adjusted wonderfully. I was worried they might try to leave the house because it is very open and difficult to completely cat-proof, but they have shown no interest whatsoever in exploring the neighborhood.

The problem is that the house had been vacant for a few weeks before I moved in, and I believe some stray cats had started treating it as their home. There are about three of them that keep coming inside.

They make my cats extremely uncomfortable and urinate all over the house. I am tired of constantly washing the carpet. I had to raise my bookshelves off the floor, and I have already thrown away several books because they were soaked in urine. They have even urinated on the dining table and the kitchen counter.

I have tried chasing them away and using commercial cat repellents. Even our dog, who chases unfamiliar cats, has not managed to deter them.

It has become so overwhelming that I am genuinely starting to feel depressed from constantly seeing my belongings ruined, smelling cat urine throughout the house, and watching my own cats remain stressed in their own home.

The only thing that has worked so far is keeping everything shut, but I do not want to live like a prisoner or restrict my own cats’ and dog’s access to the house.

I have moved my cats’ food into my office and started feeding them only at set times, but the intruding cats are large, intimidating, and aggressive. I do not know how I could safely catch them and find homes for them. I also live in a small town with no animal rescue organizations or services that could handle the situation.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? How can I keep these cats out without hurting them or severely restricting my own pets?

I have 2 big male cats, I love them to death and could never dream about giving them away. They are allowed outside and inside my house if that makes sense.

The problem is that my neighbors are starting to get very unhappy with them. I am in my neighborhoods Facebook group, and I saw some people have said that my cats, especially one of them, are pooping in their yard and that they are really mad about it.

Here is the thing while we are allowed to let our pets roam around our own yard, they are technically not allowed to exit it. There are many others who also let their cats exit the yard, but their cat doesn't annoy the neighbor's. If one of my neighbors tells the landlord, I could end op getting kicked out of my home.

I have tried to keep them indoors the past weeks, but I have children that run in and out of the house with their friends, and sometimes they forget to close the door, so they have escaped a couple of times. They also do have a litter tray inside.

Is there anything I could do to stop them from pooping in my neighbors yard? They are allowed to poop in mine, just not my neighbors.

I am thinking about adopting an adult cat. I live alone and work 40 hours a week, so I would want to ensure that if I got a cat that it would be self sufficient enough to be content home alone during the day.

I’ve been visiting my local animal shelter where they have the sweetest 4 year old former stray. Whenever I’ve visited him he was hiding from the other cats, and while he doesn’t decline pets, he doesn’t ask for them either. The shelter believes he has depression or that he just finds the environment stressful. But I worry that even if I did adopt him and made him a happy home, he would still be depressed.

I basically just want to make sure I’m enough for this cat. I don’t want him to be sadder than he is at the shelter. Any advice is appreciated, as I want to make sure I’m 100% sure before committing to a pet.

How often do you change your cats litter boxes?

I only get 3 bags of rubbish allowed per month 😢

TL;DR: My cat wakes me up every night by walking on me, pulling at my sheets/rug, and playing with cables, and I’m exhausted and at my breaking point despite trying an automatic feeder, nighttime play, blocking/deterrents, and giving her plenty of enrichment. What else can I realistically do to stop this behavior? I’m desperate for serious advice because I can’t keep living like this.

I adopted my cat a year ago. She’s two. I’ve moved to a new apartment about 6 months ago with one roommate, I got the bigger room & bathroom so I could have her automatic feeder, water, and auto litter box in there. I don’t want her litter box in the shared space.

With that said, she’s taken interest in one of my closets where she rustles around in there before bed and/or between the hours of 3-5a and wakes me up. I wear noise canceling ear buds but I guess I’m a light sleeper. Ive closed the doors but now she pulls at the rug and it’s damaging it. Foil doesn’t work. I’ve started to deter her with unpleasant scents and blocking it with items, but now she pulls at my sheets and plays with the cables behind my bed and the feeling of this wakes me up.

She doesn’t meow but she’ll walk on me. I try to ignore it but it genuinely makes me so angry I have to wake up and firmly say STOP. I have a hard time going back to sleep. I can’t see myself going through this for the rest of her life. I’m ready to give up. Other posts say lock her out of the room - I can’t do that with her food/water/litter box in my room. They say get an automatic feeder. I already have one. It goes off at 6:45a and 6p and when I play with her at night she gets a light snack after. I can’t get another cat right now.

I almost never have people over because she will likely wake them up too.

She has a cat tree in my room with her bed and blanket covering it that she sleeps in everyday. I give her porch access all day and close off access before bed. I put toys away so she knows it’s bed time but leave some out during the day. I’m going to put up 3 cat climbing stoops on my wall this week. What am I doing wrong?

For context, I work for an in-home care/companion service for the disabled elderly. My client is a 97-year-old dementia patient. She has one pet: an orange tabby cat trapped in her bathroom.

I'm 17, this was just a short summer job before school starts again. I found the cat my first day. He's shut in a small, window-less bathroom with a small food and water dish that only gets filled and cleaned by me because my client forgets. No toys, no bed, just a dirty litter box in the corner. I feel so bad for the sweet kitty! Idk how old he is, but hes super sweet and cuddly and just wants held. Such a sweetheart but I'm not allowed to let him out. Hes stuck in there day and night, and unfortunately I'm super allergic, so even I can't spend too much time in the bathroom with him bc I have to take care of my client and my allergies just get to bad. The most I can do really is refill the food and water. I just finished my last day the other day, and the poor kitty's situation still keeps gnawing me... I don't know what to do or how to help.

My client really can't take care of him and has no family who can. He has no quality of life in that bathroom and is so miserable, I feel terrible. But at her age, he is all she has left, and gets very emotional any time I've tried to suggest a possible rehoming. The family feels the same way. But it just isn't humane to me.

Any advice? I feel bad for my client because I know she really does love him, but she can't take care of him. They don't even interact. And i'm scared for what may happen to the cat now that I'm gone. Is there anything I can do? I have no knowledge of cats or pet laws.

He literally crawled inside my bed to poop on my sheets T_T (vet is already involved, and we're pretty sure we know why, don't worry)

How should I clean this?? I'm in the US. I'm throwing away my mattress pad and I had a waterproof cover under that. I'm currently washing them (and the comforter and the pillows) in Seventh Generation sensitive detergent since it has enzymes in it and plan to do at least two washes. Is that good enough?? Should I add in something else?

My cat is semi-long/medium haired with papered parents (dad is a Turkish angora, mom is an applehead Siamese) . We just finished with a bag of the Purina One Hairball Formula, which has gotten rid of any hairballs, but we like to switch around her food every couple of months (mixing in the new bag with the end of the old bag) so she doesn’t get bored of the flavor and lose her appetite. I’m wondering if a small amount of fiber powder or something similar would do the same thing as the hairball formula kibble. If so, how much/cup?

She free-feeds, so I don’t want to overdo it. She’s also kept herself at a perfectly healthy weight (Can feel the firmness of her skeleton while petting her but it’s not sharp, can feel her waist, little bit of an abdominal tuck and fat both) so I don’t want to switch to scheduled feeding.

So my friend has a nine year old cat (Miss Lady) who's starting to struggle being at home with her dog and cat siblings, and with my friend's new boyfriend who's allergic. She's decided that because Miss Lady gets on well with me, that she'll come live with me (and I have capacity and am happy with this).

My friend is going away today for 11 days and I was meant to be going over to check up on her cats sporadically (she lives about 90mins away) however her house now needs emergency mould work and the workers can't watch out for the cats during this, and she lives in a busy area where the risk of cars is high.

We've decided the safest option is for both of the cats (Miss Lady and her brother, Jimothy, 4) to come stay with me and then Jimothy goes back when his mom is back, and I keep Miss Lady.

It's obviously a lot faster than we were expecting, as we had planned a lot of acclimatising which is no longer happening. How do I make sure they're both okay with me for 11 days, and support Miss Lady with both the move and then with being a single cat?

Miss Lady - 9. Anxious but medicated, no allergies, likes hiding and birds.

Jimothy - 4. Confident, allergic to chicken, general menace but easy going.

Me - small two bed house, with one being an office. I have a small garden and live in a decently quiet area. Mostly working from home but with occasional visits that take all day. I can get most things delivered next day if needed and I have a vet nearby just in case.

my cat has a little toy mouse that she completely ignores when it's on the floor. if i pick it up and move it around, she's interested right away. the second i put it down, she walks away. i've tried leaving it beside her favorite sleeping spot and putting it in different rooms. she only cares about it when i'm holding it. now i spend part of my evening waving this tiny mouse around while she watches me like i'm supposed to know what i'm doing.

Long background, My new cats mom died - she was diagnosed with cancer, went to the hospital and never came home. Very sad for everyone. I volunteered to take her cat. No one had ever seen this cat before - she was that shy. After three months of trying to trap her they finally found her hiding spot (inside the mattress) and were able to get her. She was in bad shape and spend a week at the vet and is now home, she is on 6 pills a day. The first two days she would eat them in pill pockets. She would let me pet her and lean into my hand. Shove her face in my hand for pets. Then she stopped eating the pill pockets and I had to pill her for two ish days. And then I found a way to trick her into eating the pills as of yesterday. Now when she sees me she turns away from me. She will let me pet her but moves away to the farthest point of her cage. No more shoving her head into my hand. Will this go away and she will return to being friendly? I am afraid I ruined our relationship with the pilling. She goes down to two pills soon.

I posted over a week ago about how my resident kitten hated my new kitten (both 4 months old). I took everyone’s advice, I got the feliway diffuser, and also just let them have at it. That was actually the answer to my problems - they went at it a couple of times, and within a day or two they started to get along. They’d been playing and coexisting just fine. They actually really seemed to love each other for about a week. However, a few days ago it started to get really rough.

What started out as normal play turned into my resident kitten charging on Stevie (my new kitten) out of nowhere. Stevie could be just walking by, peacefully sleeping, just minding her own business and she will charge at her, mount, and bite Stevie’s neck so hard to the point that Stevie cries out. Sometimes it looks like play and Skade (resident kitten) just doesn’t know her limits, but she hasn’t been learning. It’s weird because they still coexist fine like 40% of the time, they’ll sleep next to each other, they won’t even eat if they’re not in the same room. I tried feeding separately and they just won’t eat when I do that. They have to be next to each other, sometimes they even eat out of the same bowl at the same time with no problems. I don’t think skade truly hates Stevie, she will just randomly decide Stevie is prey and go after her.

I’m not sure how to get skade to stop trying to dominate Stevie. She bites her so hard I feel so bad for Stevie. Neither of them are fixed, when I adopted Stevie the shelter booked her spay for the end of September - and it was recommended that I have skade spayed around the same time so they are both recovering at the same time. I have a feeling that will help, maybe what skade is doing is hormonal. I just don’t know what to do for the time being. I’m also afraid of it escalating into permanent behavior from skade. I am so stressed.
