Cat Picture - OC Prayers for Gigi

At some point yesterday, Gigi ingested a bunch of vitamin D supplements after the bottle fell on the floor behind a night stand and the broken top popped open. We didn’t even know about it until late last night. She had started vomiting earlier, then she stopped eating, and appeared lethargic around the time she should be running through the hallway getting tangled up in the sheets as we attempt to make the bed.

I took her to the emergency vet late last night where they confirmed around 3AM that she needed to be hospitalized due to hypercalcemia caused by the vitamin D toxicity.

This afternoon, the vet called back to update us: her calcium score is worsening, so we approved their use of a more aggressive (and expensive) drug therapy. Hopefully she’ll improve tomorrow, but the vet warned us that it could be a real rollercoaster. An expensive roller coaster with an uncertain outcome.

(Edited to comply with rules)

Needless to say, after rescuing this cat off the street and deeply bonding with her over the last year, I’m ready to do what I can to save her. However, there now exists a possibility where I may not be able to afford to save her.

We are really worried about Gigi. Hopefully, we get some good news tomorrow. We can only take it one day at a time. I’m really hoping we don’t have to say goodbye to our little screaming chaos goblin. It’s hard wrestling with the possibility that she can be saved, but I won’t be able to afford to save her.

Hug your fur kids, tell them that you love them, and treasure every moment with them.

***

EDIT (9/1, 9AM EDT): Firstly, thank you all so much for your support! I’m truly touched by the outpouring of support for our Gigi!

Secondly, we are awaiting her new results from the new treatment. I will update once we know more.

Thank you all, so much!

EDIT (9/1, 12PM): I was able to visit her for a brief moment before work today. She was clearly happy to see me. It sounds like she’s a bit down being there and not eating very much.
She perked up for me, was very affectionate, and ate some Churu much to the vet tech’s delight.
I plan on visiting her again after work to try and get her to eat some more.

Mourning/Loss I miss him so much.

It's been a few days now. Since I lost my beautiful baby boy. Just wanted to share my favorite pictures of him. I cant even sleep cause I cant stop thinking of him. My poor baby Weasel was in so much pain. I feel like my heart has been ripped out. It's starting to hit just as hard right now as it did when I found out we had to put him down.

I miss my little baby boy. My fat kitty kitty. I talked to him in a high voice. Had all these nicknames for him. My big fat cheezel. I'm sleeping with my orange cat plushie I cuddled with when I was away from home and missing him, and his cat toys in my bed right beside me. My mom told me he had cancer, 3x larger intestines and that I'd be horrified to see the xray. His organs were literally pushing against eachother, his gums were turning yellow. They said even if we got 15k worth of the best treatments he's only have 6 months at most. Oh God. I'm so sorry baby. Your mama loves you so much. So so much. I don't care about anything else right now. I just want you back.

Medical Questions Vet visit turned horrible

Hey guys/girls

So a few days ago we found about a walnut size lump on our cats left nipple. Today at the vet we had her xrayed and they said that it was metastatic and cancer has moved into her lung and there is fluid in the lungs as well, however, breathing is normal. They suggested NO surgery and handed us prednisone 5mg twice daily to keep her comfortable and a $500 vet bill.

My wife and i are literally in a depression right now. Were shocked that a cat as happy and energetic is going to die in less than 6 months.

Im not sure why im posting this. But I guess has anyone had any luck doing anything? Is there anything we can do to save her, or give her more time with out being greedy for our own needs? Has anyone has this diagnosis and have a better or worse time line? Everything is read says our cat has 2 weeks.

Picture isn't posted for help with a diagnosis she was just being cute all belly up.

Video - OC Waffles and her weasel

Waffles has a weasel that is exclusively hers. None of the other cats (past or present) will touch it. Every day she gets the weasel, screams until she finds either me or my husband, expects praise and pets for catching the weasel and if there is a pillow or blanket, she’ll make biscuits with her weasel. She loves her weasel catching job, keeping us all safe.

Mourning/Loss Passing of my cat Molly

After a very confusing month of back and forth between different vets I had to say goodbye to my sweet kitty Molly on Saturday. She was my best friend and was with me nearly every minute of everyday. She helped me through a period of extended joblessness and I will forever be so appreciative of her. Honestly don’t see myself getting another pet for a very long time, this heartache hits deep 💔

This is my boy Pepe who I adopted from a shelter about exactly a month ago now. I’ve never been around cats too much so this first month was quite the experience, but he’s a rather chill and calm boy so I can’t say it’s been super hectic. I love him though and I look forward to the coming years with him!

Cat Picture - OC Hammerhead

This is Hammerhead. He got his name because he will literally sit there for hours just bumping his head against you. He showed up on our porch the day after we moved into our new house, along with five other cats. Our neighbors told us that people tend to dump animals near our house since we live in a fairly rural area. Apparently, Hammerhead just showed up one day.Our neighbors were older and living on a fixed income, so I took over feeding and caring for the cats. We’ve caught all but one of them, and we’ve had them fixed and vaccinated. Despite his RBF,he is absolutely the sweetest, most affectionate cat I’ve ever met.I would love to bring him inside permanently, but we already have four indoor cats. I’ve brought him inside during storms before, and he has made it VERY clear that he would much rather be outside, even during tornados. So for now,he guards the porch. He takes his job very seriously haha. My husband built him a little house to stay warm in the winter and cool in the summer so he always has food, shelter and clean water. He may technically be an outdoor cat, but he definitely considers us his people and I love him to death

My partner and I recently adopted Lord Bacon (his official title) from a Polish shelter. Lord Bacon has survived being shot and abandoned, but is now living his best life, striking fear into the hearts of the neighborhood birds, and being spoiled every. Single. Second. We love him so much.

Mourning/Loss My baby boy

I had to say goodbye to my soul cat on August 18th of this year. He was 13. I adopted him from a rescue shelter in May, 2019. He helped me so much with my anxiety and depression. Not having him there has been so hard. I couldn’t eat or sleep for a week. Not hearing him meow and have him lay with me in bed has been the hardest. I miss him terribly and I wish I could bring him back. His health declined fast and so suddenly. It was hard watching him go downhill so fast and not being able to take away his pain. I wish I could hold him one last time. This was my boy, Simon.

Cat Picture - OC Update on the two rescued tabby kittens- medical neglect, no meow

Post image

One week ago I took in two cats that a friend of mine had left to die. They were dripping with infection, injected improperly with livestock antibiotics, and washed outside with a hose while they had fevers. I kept them, now I have three cats, oh well.

Since then they've been on antibiotics and ear infection meds. The one in the cone has a leg that split open from the livestock antibiotics. And the little one, she just opens her mouth and no sound comes out.

Now that they've had time with the vet, here's where things stand: they're both likely to make a full recovery and grow into very happy cats. But the little one's illness caused severe scarring on her vocal cords, so she probably won't ever get her meow back. When she opens her mouth, nothing comes out.

Please say a prayer for her, and if anyone has experience with mute cats, please share advice.

Mourning/Loss Not ready to commit to a cat? Consider fostering!

Upvotes

Cats and kittens are being euthanized all the time for space issues or sickness (like this little one and his three siblings will be later today.)

Fostering saves lives and shelters give all the supplies needed including but not limited to: kennels, litter boxes, food, medications, etc!

I just had to boost fostering for a moment. Being a shelter worker is tough. I hate euthanasia but we can’t have sick or super young kittens in the shelter.

Edit: these little ones are in central Alabama 🤠

When Fifi’s mother refused to nurse her, I took her in and adopted her. During the three months we spent together, I tried to give her the best life possible. I took her to every single vet in the city, but in the end, she passed away from heart failure.

Medical Questions My cat’s whiskers are gone. Is he going to be okay?

I had my boy groomed today, they had to shave him because the fur on his stomach and legs had become heavily matted.

I just noticed a few hours after coming home that his whiskers had been shaved off too. (I added a photo of him pre-shaved as reference to how long his fur and whiskers were). Is he going to be okay?
